As a heads up though, this sound quality is only after uninstalling and
reinstalling pulse audio and maybe something else (apologies for not
giving better details there, I didn't think to submit a bug until I ran

Finally got around to upgrading to 18.04. I installed a fresh hard
drive, installed Kubuntu 18.04.1, and 8169 driver was chosen.
My ethernet would not negotiate anything higher than 100MB-HALF.
Installed the r8168-dkms driver, rebooted, and immediately got 1GB-FULL.
r8169 is not the correct drive
I've come up with a theory that I think matches what I observe. It
seems that my laptop gets into the bad state if I suspend too quickly
after hot unplug from thunderbolt. If I wait long enough after hot
unplug that all the thunderbolt devices are fully removed, then the
system remains fine. If

and it's just the host side NetVSP driver stops reading from the guest-

Could you please test the Bionic (4.15) and/or Cosmic (4.18) kernels
currently available in -proposed to verify if the fix applied really
fixes the issue reported? Please see the instructions on the comments
above describing how to install the kernels.
