Title:
Kernel 4.15.0-59 (and onwards) breaks scroll wheel of USB mouse
  (A4Tech X5-50D)

Status in Linux:
  Confirmed
Status in linux package in Ubuntu:
  Fix Released

Bug description:
The latest kernel upgrade makes it impossible to use the scroll wheel
  of one specific mouse.

   Affected Ubuntu release: 18.04.3
   Last working kernel version: 4.15.0-58
   Affected kernel versions: 4.15.0-59, 4.15.0-60, 4.15.0-62, …

I've several X5-50D input devices, tested at three different systems,
connected via USB2 and USB3. I can reproduce the issue at all machines
at any time. All others mouses are working fine. When booting the old
  kernel the problem is gone.

Please tell me what details are required to trace this issue down. I
should be able to test custom patches and build packages, if required.

linux firmware 1.178.3 seems to break WPA enterprise

Status in linux package in Ubuntu:
  Expired

Bug description:
Seen on intel Wireless-N 2230 BGN (rev c4).
After the update to said linux firmware version I had issues in connecting to
the WPA enterprise wifi networks EDUROAM and ALMAWIFI. EDUROAM is the European
universities Wi-Fi network. Ability to connect to non enterprise network is
unaffected.
Downgrading to 1.178 seems to restore proper functionality.
In the next days I'll try further checks to see if the firmware is really the
sole trigger for the issue. In the meantime, I am tentatively opening the bug
in case others have my same issue.

2019-09-21 Thread Christian Schrötter
This should be fixed at 4.15.0-63.72 (and 4.15.0-65.74) -- available at
bionic-proposed.

It's mentioned in the changelog, but I've not tested it yet.

unfortunately, I can't reproduce the case now since the machine in
question has been handed over to a customer. But there's a dmesg from
that server. I have attached the dmesg.

  running 'mkfs.xfs' crashes the kernel

Status in linux package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
Attempting to create an XFS file system crashed the kernel - I saw a
kernel stack trace on the screen, and had to power cycle the machine
after that. I was able to create the file system with one of the 5.x
kernels and then use it no problem with Bionic, but switching to the
5.x kernel for good isn't an option.

  Expected behaviour:

Create the file system and print some information about it on screen.

Update to 4.4.0-164 has cured this bug. I can now boot with this kernel
and log in OK.

Status in linux package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
Having run update on my i386 Asus Eee PC with Intel Atom N550 Dual
core CPU running 16.04.06 LTS, it installed linux 4.4.0-145. If I boot
this kernel everything is blank. Just a black screen. If I change to
a terminal using Ctrl Alt F4 it is still a black screen but I can
carefully type in my user name and password and then the shutdown
  command and it shuts down

Using Advanced options in grub neither the upstart or the recovery
option work. The screen is still black. The recovery option does,
however, display the boot sequence before going black.

I can boot the previous kernel 4.4.0-143 and all is OK.

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1832041] Re: The mouse stops working

2019-09-21 Thread Sebastian Parschauer
I‘ve fixed this mouse at upstream Linux kernel with
HID_QUIRK_ALWAYS_POLL. See https://github.com/sriemer/fix-linux-
mouse/issues/15 and https://www.spinics.net/lists/linux-
input/msg63199.html. It is queued for v5.4-rc1 and v4.16+ stable. Feel
free to backport to the old hid_blacklist as well.

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1840328] Re: Regression in overlayfs between 4.4.0-157 and 4.4.0-159

2019-09-21 Thread Duncan Overbruck
I can confirm this bug with overlayfs on top of tmpfs, I think it
happens when a program does fsetxattr on a file.

I was able to reproduce it with sed which uses setxattr when it creates
a new file, the shell does not do this when creating a file and does not
trigger the bug.

`touch /tmp/foo; sed -i '' /tmp/foo; cat /tmp/foo` results in EACCES
from open(2) in cat(1).

sed:
fsetxattr(4, "system.posix_acl_access",
"\2\0\0\0\1\0\6\0\377\377\377\377\4\0\4\0\377\377\377\377
\0\4\0\377\377\377\377", 28, 0) = 0

cat:
open("/tmp/foo", O_RDONLY) = -1 EACCES (Permission denied)

My xenial gate jobs began failing after the nodes began running
  4.4.0-159.

The gist of this bug is that a file sitting in /posix.ini for example,
copied there by ucf from /usr/share/php7.2-common/common/posix.ini,
cannot be read by non-root users despite its permission bits being
0644. chmodding 0644 on top of the file fixes this, also rebooting the
lxc container solves it as well.

After downgrading the same test node to 4.4.0-157 and re-running the
same tests, the broken behavior does not occur.

Please see the attachments for the exact commands used to reproduce this.

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1818974] Re: Ubuntu 18.04 HWE Kernel 4.18 / 5.0 - Standby wakeup user session crash

2019-09-21 Thread Martin Dünkelmann
I'm sorry, that I still had no time to bisect the kernel (job/studies).

But I've got another log.
I don't know, if it is the same bug, but it also caused my user session to
crash.

I see several service kills and that I get a new user session in this
log.

Again, my laptop was in standby over night.

I updated now to kernel 5.0.0-29-generic.

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1844787] Re: Killer Wi-Fi 6 AX1650 device not supported by kernel

2019-09-21 Thread You-Sheng Yang
Hi Rob,

Yes, but current situation is:
1. this might have been resolved in Bionic oem-osp1 kernel,
2. it has not yet been back ported to Disco generic kernel,
3. people willing to help might not have the hardware you have,

So, if you can help verify whether does the fix on bionic oem-osp1 also
work for you or not, then we can determine the next step we can take.
How do you think?
