I confirm that the touchpad on our Lenovo ThinkBook 15 IIL does not work. And
it is not listed by "xinput" either. I tried many suggestions with BIOS
settings, kernel parameters and reloading modules.

Changed desktop monitors and the problem is now less severe, but still
present. I guess it's all to do with how fast the monitor can change
modes. And that a mode change is occurring at all. Although it seems to
be the same resolution.
