[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1889342] Re: Thunderbolt Dock Loses Monitors
The issue is still occurring. Configuration - Laptop docked with screen closed, dual monitor on dock. Linux unicron 5.6.0-1028-oem #28-Ubuntu SMP Tue Sep 8 13:34:39 UTC 2020 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux I can reproduce it by doing the following: 1. Hit win+l to lock 2. Let monitors go to sleep 3. Try to wake up with keyboard/mouse 4. Unlock screen is not prompted, it seemingly shows up on the closed laptop. And the kselftest framework in Bionic can handle this ksft_skip=4 return code properly, tests won't be marked as failed because of this. Although IMO in this case the test should be marked as PASS instead of SKIP in the end, as not all tests were skipped, but that's something we could fix with upstream in the future. [Kernel-packages] [Bug 1671360] Re: System doesn't boot properly on Gigabyte AM4 motherboards (AMD Ryzen)
** Changed in: linux Status: Unknown => Confirmed ** Changed in: linux Importance: Unknown => Medium -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kernel Packages, which is subscribed to linux in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1671360 Title: System doesn't boot properly on Gigabyte AM4 motherboards (AMD Ryzen) Status in Linux: Confirmed Status in linux package in Ubuntu: Fix Released Status in linux source package in Zesty: Fix Released Status in linux source package in Artful: Fix Released Bug description: [Impact] Gigabyte AM4 boards users cannot boot Ubuntu successfully. Commit linux-gpio/fixes babdc22b0ccf4ef5a3075ce6e4afc26b7a279faf "pinctrl/amd: Use regular interrupt instead of chained" can fix the issue. [Test Case] All Gigabyte AM4 boards can reproduce the issue. With the patch, the issue is resolved, per comment #170. [Regression Potential] Regression Potential is low. It limits to rather new AMD platform which has pinctrl-amd. As the commit log says, use chained interrupt is not a good idea. Use regular interrupt is the correct way. I also test the patch on an AMD laptop, where its touchpad depends on pinctrl-amd. No regression found. Original bug report: I'm trying to run ubuntu on Ryzen 1700x with Gigabyte GA-AB350-gaming-3 motherboard, and it has a load of problems, starting with not being able to boot normally. During normal boot, on 16.10 as well as 17.04 beta: system doesn't boot normally, hangs with a lot of "unexpected irq trap at vector 07" messages displayed. Following advice from various places, I've tried:disable cpu freq governor and cpu handling in acpi settings 1. add "acpi=off" to boot params That helps, allowing me to boot into recovery mode, though it leaves me with system seeing only one core, is really slow and still only boots in recovery mode. 2. Compile own kernel using 4.11.rc1 and disabling cpu freq governor and cpu handling in acpi settings. Boot with "quiet loglevel=3" option. That gets me even further - system sees all cores now. Still only recovery mode though, but its enough to get info for this bug report. Some observed problems: 1. dmesg reports *a lot* of messages like this all the time: [ 163.362068] ->handle_irq(): 87a7e090, [ 163.362081] bad_chained_irq+0x0/0x40 [ 163.362089] ->handle_irq(): 87a7e090, [ 163.362090] amd_gpio_irq_handler+0x0/0x200 [ 163.362090] ->irq_data.chip(): 88587e20, [ 163.362090] ioapic_ir_chip+0x0/0x120 [ 163.362090] ->action(): 884601c0 [ 163.362091]IRQ_NOPROBE set [ 163.362099] ->handle_irq(): 87a7e090, [ 163.362099] amd_gpio_irq_handler+0x0/0x200 [ 163.362100] ->irq_data.chip(): 88587e20, [ 163.362100] ioapic_ir_chip+0x0/0x120 [ 163.362101] ->action(): 884601c0 I've tried to redirect dmesg to a file, stopped after a short while, it generated 400M of those. 2. Systemd cannot start journald. Perhaps because it cannot cope with amount of kernel logs? 3. Looking at pci, I've noticed something called AMDI0040 (/sys/bus/acpi/devices/AMDI0040, path=_SB_.EMMC), among AMDI0010, AMDI0020, AMDI0030. Those however are mentioned in kernel source, kernel and google are completely silent about AMDI0040. Phoronix tested ryzen using different motherboard, and it worked better (though not well), so I suspect it is an issue with motherboard. --- ApportVersion: 2.20.4-0ubuntu2 Architecture: amd64 DistroRelease: Ubuntu 17.04 InstallationDate: Installed on 2015-08-06 (581 days ago) InstallationMedia: Kubuntu 15.10 "Wily Werewolf" - Alpha amd64 (20150728.1) Package: linux (not installed) ProcEnviron: LANGUAGE=en_US:en TERM=linux PATH=(custom, no user) LANG=en_US.UTF-8 SHELL=/bin/bash Tags: zesty Uname: Linux 4.11.0-rc1-custom x86_64 UnreportableReason: The running kernel is not an Ubuntu kernel UpgradeStatus: Upgraded to zesty on 2017-03-03 (6 days ago) UserGroups: _MarkForUpload: True To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/linux/+bug/1671360/+subscriptions -- Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~kernel-packages Post to : kernel-packages@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~kernel-packages More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1594023] Re: Poweroff or reboot hangs. Laptop won't shutdown. 16.04
I'm using dell 3543 and ubuntu 20.04 reboot but works but power off hangs is there a way to fix it please ?? -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kernel Packages, which is subscribed to linux in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1594023 Title: Poweroff or reboot hangs. Laptop won't shutdown. 16.04 Status in Ubuntu: New Status in linux package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Bug description: This is about a fresh Ubuntu 16.04 install on a new laptop (asus x540sa). After pressing the shutdown button in the start menu; the shutdown procedure starts and in the final splash screen the system just hangs. Tried a second time by pressing Esc once the splash screen showed up and I saw that it reaches the line "Reached target shutdown" and just stops there, no matter how long I leave it there the machine won't turn off. I also tried a Kubuntu 16.04 fresh install on the same machine and it hanged too at the final splash screen where the pulsating logo stopped. Then I tried with Esc only to see the exact same line in the end. The issue seems to affect lately quite many users as shown by the google results of the past month / week or so. I have also tried shutting down from the console with shutdown -and all the parameters after that suggested online- and sudo poweroff but unfortunately they didn't do the trick. The exact same situation occurred. Unmounting the swap as suggested online doesn't work. Also rebooting the system is not working either due to the same issue. So right now the only way for me to poweroff the machine is to press the power button on the keyboard continuously. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1.Install OS 2.Do something, anything or nothing 3.Try to shutdown or reboot Actual Results: The computer is not shutting down: "Reached target shutdown" and hangs there. Expected Results: Powering off the machine. For what it's worth, closing the lid won't suspend the system, but using the menu buttons for suspension will do it. Sure. I'll send dmesg to you once the issue is triggered. The audio doesn't cause function issue. @Coiby Xu (coiby) You are the best !!! First of all, thank you very much for the patch - it works perfectly. All I had to do was add the fix from @wangjun (biggerchina). Here is the link to the working patch: https://gitlab.manjaro.org/packages/core/linux58/-/raw/master/0304-i2c-hid-core.patch?inline=false The kernel 5.8.12-2 of Manjaro Linux 5.8.12-2 already contains it. I will also include it in the 5.9-rc7. [Kernel-packages] [Bug 1873083] Re: Lenovo Yoga C940 frequently does thermal shutdown
While my problem is not exactly the same, i feel that it's so closely related as to not warrant a separate bug. I have a thinkpad x1 extreme gen3. Whenever i suspend, upon waking up, it shuts down: thermal thermal_zone3: critical temperature reached (128 C), shutting down almost always zone3, sometimes zone4. This is on my focal install, but i tried on a pristine focal live cd, as well as a groovy daily live cd (from sept 26th), with the exact same result. Groovy has thermald 2.3. I *know* my laptop is not in overheat at that point. I can do this from a cold laptop, on battery or on power at 100%, doing fine with temperatures way low (~40 degC), suspend and wake up 10 seconds later _and i still have that behavior. Whatever that sensor is reading did not go from 40 to 128 in 10 seconds of suspend. I suspect a single bad reading when it wakes up trips everything up. I've tried thermal.nocrt, or thermal.crt=150, as kernel command lines (and checked when booted that they were applied). That seems to only impact the acpitz-acpi-0 zone, nothing else, and it still powers off when waking up. removing module int3403_thermal removes thermal_zone[1-8] in /sys/class/thermal (interestingly, sensors still returns the same set, so either those zones aren't to do with the cpu or anything else sensors returns, or sensors goes through something else to get its values?) and suspend now works fine. happy to do some more digging, i'd obviously prefer to un-blacklist this module but now at least i can suspend -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kernel Packages, which is subscribed to thermald in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1873083 Title: Lenovo Yoga C940 frequently does thermal shutdown Status in linux package in Ubuntu: Incomplete Status in thermald package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Status in Gentoo Linux: New Bug description: On a bit higher load and especially if Laptop is charging, very often Kernel does an emergency thermal shutdown. thermal thermal_zone3: critical temperature reached (80 C), shutting down It says 80 C, but sensors command shows that temperatures hovering close to 100C before the shutdown happens. dmesg is often also full of these (for each core): mce: CPU2: Core temperature above threshold, cpu clock throttled (total events = 246766) When I boot to Windows, it seems that CPU is throttled more aggressively on load and thermal shutdown doesn't happen with a similar load, but CPU frequencies drop to 1600 range, while in Ubuntu they are 2800 range. I would rather have more throttling that computer shutting down randomly without the ability to save work. Is there a workaround? [Kernel-packages] [Bug 1897392] Re: Ryzen 4800u, kernel 5.8.11 boot errors (AMD-Vi, ACPI, HDCP, Bluetooth)
Ah unfortunately before I switched to Ubuntu, there was no bios update. Lenovo does not provide anything to update the bios, only an unextractable Windows exe. I will figure out a way to install Windows on a portable drive (Win2USB). The only way to get sound back is to : remove power. turn off laptop Wait a few minutes until sound card is totally off and resets itself to its standard state And boot laptop again Something in the kernel is putting the intel sound card in a state that prevents it from working again on next reboot or wake up until the machine is turned off and power source removed This was not occuring on previous kernels. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kernel Packages, which is subscribed to linux in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1884940 Title: after login to gnome, kern.log slowly fills with snd_hda_intel :00:1f.3: No response from codec Status in OEM Priority Project: New Status in linux package in Ubuntu: Incomplete Bug description: Laptop : Dell XPS 2020 9300 Pre-loaded with Ubuntu 18.04 LTS Latest BIOS, latest available kernel, all updates applied linux kernel 5.0.0-1059-oem-osp1 After I log to Gnome, the kern.log fills itself with lines reporting this : Jun 24 14:46:22 asgard kernel: [ 158.134245] snd_hda_intel :00:1f.3: No response from codec, resetting bus: last cmd=0x2063b000 One per second. This laptop has a Intel / nVidia combo. The problem i am facing is that when i have an external monitor connected to the laptop through the HDMI connector of the laptop, Ubuntu does not boot and hangs on the splash screen. I have not found any way to get logging on any kind. Before i was running Ubuntu 18.04 and did not have any problems with the monitor and HDMI cable. After boot is finished (without monitor connected) inserting the HDMI cable works fine and i can use the monitor and laptop screen without any problem. ** Changed in: linux (Ubuntu) Status: Expired => Incomplete ** Changed in: linux (Ubuntu) Status: Incomplete => Confirmed -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kernel Packages, which is subscribed to linux in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1883511 Title: High load from process irq/65-i2c-INT3 - kernel module tps6598x Status in linux package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Bug description: There seems to be an issue with the kernel module tps6598x which puts the CPU on a high load: https://forums.intel.com/s/question/0D50P4fWnUeSAK/nuc10i3-irq- problem As soon as the module is unloaded, cpu load is back to normal. According to a post in the link above the issue is the following: "My guess is that the IRQ resource is not correct for the PD controller causing you to see irq flood. The problem is that the ACPI device entry (the node) on this platform has 4 I2CSerialBus resources and 4 IRQ resources. The idea is that the single ACPI device entry can represent up to 4 USB PD controllers. The problem is that there is no way to know which IRQ resource belongs to which I2CSerialBus resource :-(. Andy, this is one of those multi-instantiate I2C slave devices with HID INT3515. The only solution I can think of is that we start maintaining DMI quirk table in drivers/platform/x86/i2c-multi-instantiate.c where we supply the correct i2c to irq resource mapping for every platform that has this device(s)."
