Exactly 2 files are always missing... Steps to reproduce: On a windows7 PC (or Server) e.g. C:\ must be published as Share (must be top level share - a subfolder like C:\data\ seems to work) sudo mount -t cifs //SERVER/SHARE_NAME /mnt -o domain=DOMAIN_NAME,username=${USER},uid=1000,gid=1000,nounix,vers=2.0 As a result always 2 Files (or directories) are missing in the mounted directory of the ubuntu installation. [Kernel-packages] [Bug 1928242] Re: Realtek USB hubs in Dell WD19SC/DC/TB fail to work after exiting s2idle
** Description changed: [SRU Justification] [Impact] - All of 3 different WD19(TB/SC/DC) docks have 3 Type-A ports and 2 Type-C ports, and there're highspeed Hubs(0bda:5487 and its substream hub 0bda:5413) and Superspeed Hubs (0bda:0413 and its downstream hub 0bda:5413). In the bug description below, we will refer the 2 highspeed hubs as Hub A and Hub A.3, and the 2 superspeed hubs as Hub B and Hub B.3. All devices connected via either Type-A or Type-C ports will connect to either Hub A.3 or Hub B.3. If we connect a wakup enabled device (keyboard) to a Type-A port, the Hub A.3 will fail to activate after exiting s2idle and all downstream devices will not be detected. If we have a superspeed device connected to other Type-A port in addition to the keyboard, this superspeed device actually connects to Hub B.3, and the Hub B.3 will also fails to work after exiting s2idle. If the wakeup enabled device connects via Type-C port, there's no such problem. + All of 3 different WD19(TB/SC/DC) docks have 3 Type-A ports and 2 Type-C ports, and there're highspeed Hubs(0bda:5487 and its substream hub 0bda:5413) and Superspeed Hubs (0bda:0487 and its downstream hub 0bda:0413). If we have a superspeed device connected to other Type-A port in addition to the keyboard, this superspeed device actually connects to Hub B.3, and the Hub B.3 will also fails to work after exiting s2idle. If the wakeup enabled device connects via Type-C port, there's no such problem. As a summary, a wakeup enabled device connect to Type-A port will cause the failure of Hub A.3 and Hub B.3. Hub B.3 only fails when a wakeup enabled device and a superspeed device both connect via Type-A port. [Fix] Before the resume failure, the upstream hub(Hub A or B) will hit the timeout problem while doing SetPortFeature(PORT_SUSPEND) to the port of the downstream hub (Hub A.3 or Hub B.3). However, the PORT_SUSPEND bit of the wPortStatus is actually turned on for the Hub A.3, we simply need to make the kernel believe it's already suspended. Then the ClearPortFeature will be done during resume and the problem will go away. The Hub B.3 will be tricky. The PORT_SUSPEND bit is not on after the suspend timeout, but we need to reset_resume the Hub B.3 to avoid resume failure. It's hard to create a generic fix for it. Because it only happens when timeout happens on suspending Hub A.3 and there's a superspeed device connecting to Type-A port. I can only reset_resume the problematic hub if the timeout happens during suspend and it happens to be a Realtek hub. [Test] 1. Make sure that the WD19 connects to the laptop 2. Connect a USB keyboard and a superspeed USB stick to USB Type-A ports. 3. Suspend the system 4. Press the Enter key or power button to wake up the system 5. Check if the keyboard and USB stick are still working Repeat 4 and 5 for > 10 times w/o losing any USB devices. [Where problems could occur] A wakeup enabled device (keyboard) connect to Type-A port will cause the failure of Hub A.3 and Hub B.3 during resume. Hub B.3 only fails when a wakeup enabled device and a superspeed device both connect via Type-A port. All devices connects to Hub A.3 (and B.3 if superspeed device connect via Type-A port) will be lost after resume. [Regression Potential] Minimum. The fix is only triggered when timeout happens during USB port suspend and it follows the standard USB protocol to do either resume or reset_resume. == Original Bug Description == ● Summary Plug in USB mouse and USB keyboard to WD19/WD19DC USB ports near LAN port. Plug dock into SUT and check USB keyboard and mouse work. SUT enter suspend. After 1 min resume SUT, check USB keyboard/mouse function. Sometimes USB keyboard/mouse no function. Isolation: 1. VP on UMA and Discrete 2. When issue occur, both front and back port on WD19 can't work using USB keyboard/mouse but USB Key. ● Reproduce Steps 1.Plug in USB mouse and USB keyboard to WD19/WD19DC USB ports near LAN port. 2.Plug dock into SUT and check USB keyboard and mouse work. 3. [Kernel-packages] [Bug 714862] Re: Atheros AR3011 cannot be turned up/is not recognized.
** Changed in: debian Status: Confirmed => Fix Released -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kernel Packages, which is subscribed to linux-firmware in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/714862 Title: Atheros AR3011 cannot be turned up/is not recognized. Status in HWE Next: Fix Released Status in Linux: Confirmed Status in linux-firmware package in Ubuntu: Fix Released Status in linux-firmware source package in Maverick: Won't Fix Status in linux-firmware source package in Natty: Won't Fix Status in linux-firmware source package in Oneiric: Won't Fix Status in linux-firmware source package in Precise: Fix Released Status in Debian: Fix Released Bug description: The key is the device by Atheros Communications, Inc, which is their AR3002. This is the device that Dell is putting into this Vostro V130, which Dell ships with Ubuntu 10.04 pre-loaded. Atheros indicates that: "As a proponent of open software, Atheros provides its own Bluetooth stack for easy portability and also supports standard Bluetooth stacks such as Blue Z on Linux, Chrome OS, and Android OS. All Bluetooth profiles in Blue Z are supported, including headset and hands-free profiles, A2DP, FTP, DUN, OPP, PAN, SPP and PBAP.." So they say this device should support Bluez. Go to the Bluez page, and search for "atheros," and you find this: http://www.bluez.org/l2cap-extended-features-on-2-6-36/ Very briefly, it says "Support for the Atheros AR300x chip." I would hope that "3002" is part of "300x," but I'm not sure. I went ahead and added the natty packages to my repository, so that I could effectively install the bluez 4.87 and related packages. Well, this ends a lot of errors. Now, when I launch blueman, I get no connection errors, or anything, but still no options to connect any devices. This still happens: sudo hciconfig: hci0: Type: BR/EDR Bus: USB BD Address: 00:00:00:00:00:00 ACL MTU: 0:0 SCO MTU: 0:0 DOWN RX bytes:0 acl:0 sco:0 events:0 errors:0 TX bytes:24 acl:0 sco:0 commands:8 errors:0 Which tells me that the AR3002 is still not "seen." sudo hciconfig hci0 up yields: Can't init device hci0: Connection timed out (110) Now, in a very rational sense, I believe I have hit the dead end. The device is simply too new, I guess, to be supported(?) Turning in bug request in hope of future support, and as question has no activity on it. If this this is incorrect procedure, please forgive, as I'm new here. Re: [Kernel-packages] [Bug 1928393] Re: linux-firmware 1.197 causes kernel to report error "amdgpu: [gfxhub0] retry page fault"
The latest upstream firmware is stable, so I reverted back to 1.197 so that I could test only the picasso* files. Before doing that, I decided to run for a while with pristine linux- firmware 1.197 to double-check that the bug happens quickly. Unexpectedly, 1.197 is now reliable too! I have been running it for about half a day (which is more than what was possible before) and it is fine. The only thing that changed was that flatpak's org.freedesktop.Platform and org.freedesktop.Platform.GL.default were updated, not sure if yesterday or the day before. This is relevant because I use Firefox from flathub. I'm suspecting that the instability comes from the combination of linux- firmware 1.197 + a particular version of some userspace component (Mesa I guess) that was in org.freedesktop.Platform{,.GL.default}. I'll try reverting the flatpak update to see if I can get back to the unstable state to confirm the hypothesis. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kernel Packages, which is subscribed to linux-firmware in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1928393 Title: linux-firmware 1.197 causes kernel to report error "amdgpu: [gfxhub0] retry page fault" Status in linux-firmware package in Ubuntu: Incomplete Bug description: After upgrading linux-firmware from 1.190.5 to 1.197 (as part of the upgrade from Ubuntu 20.10 to 21.04), I started experiencing frequent and severe GPU instability. Many of the times when this happens, the screen and keyboard freeze irreversibly (I tried waiting for more than 30 minutes, but it doesn't help). I can still log in via ssh though. When there's no freeze, I can continue using the computer normally, but the laptop fans keep running are always running and the battery depletes fast. There's probably something on a permanent loop either in the kernel or in the GPU. This bug happens several times a day, rendering the machine so unstable as to be almost unusable. It is a severe regression and I'm aghast that it passed AMD's Quality Assurance. After downgrading back to linux-firmware 1.190.5, the machine is back to the previous, mostly-reliable state. Which is to say, this bug is gone, I'm just left with the other amdgpu suspend bug I've learned to live with since I bought this computer. Please revert the amdgpu firmware in this package as soon as possible. This is unbearable. [Kernel-packages] [Bug 1928138] Re: Flickering on built-in display (Intel Haswell graphics) since kernel v4.1 [bisected and workaround attached]
Trying to find the reason for this issue I tested kernels from https://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/ on Ubuntu 14.04 v4.0.9-wily - flickering didn't happen (but that's because DRRS wasn't activated in the 4.0.y series) v4.1-rc3-unstable - problem started here. So it's quite possible that on a particular machine this issue is present since v4.1-rc1 I found that this is DRRS by looking at i915 commits in the 4.1.y tree. https://github.com/gregkh/linux/commits/linux-4.1.y/drivers/gpu/drm/i915/ intel_pc.c and intel_display.c have some DRRS-related changes I can try to revert some commits from there. Some interesting commits: * drm/i915: Add support for DRRS in intel_dp_set_m_n (https://github.com/gregkh/linux/commit/fe3cd48d6b616efc76b6a4003e82e933618c788a#diff-83261d1489be7f0a6d1b8306ff0fddbeb13ceb74768ea99274b009dce13ffd2e) * drm/i915/bdw: Add support for DRRS to switch RR (https://github.com/gregkh/linux/commit/a4c30b1d108c1ef60667ed357af4aeabc3d05eca#diff-83261d1489be7f0a6d1b8306ff0fddbeb13ceb74768ea99274b009dce13ffd2e) -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kernel Packages, which is subscribed to linux in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1928138 Title: Flickering on built-in display (Intel Haswell graphics) since kernel v4.1 [bisected and workaround attached] Status in Linux: Unknown Status in linux package in Ubuntu: New Bug description: Since kernel 4.1 laptop HP Elitebook Folio 1040 G1 (with Intel i5-4210U) has a pretty serious issue with flickering Symptoms: 1) If I leave mouse cursor for a few seconds, then start moving it, there's a slight flicker (like display brightness changes a bit). There's also some flickering even without user interactions. 2) On the top left corner sometimes appears artifacts. It's relatively easy to see with black window decorations on top of the screen. This one is showed at the attached video bellow 3) With kernel boot options drm.debug=0x1e log_buf_len=4M dmesg shows constant refresh rate changes (even if it's set to 40HZ) [ 29.977378] [drm:intel_dp_set_drrs_state [i915]] eDP Refresh Rate set to : 40Hz [ 30.456537] [drm:intel_dp_set_drrs_state [i915]] eDP Refresh Rate set to : 60Hz [ 33.973392] [drm:intel_dp_set_drrs_state [i915]] eDP Refresh Rate set to : 40Hz [ 35.055923] [drm:intel_dp_set_drrs_state [i915]] eDP Refresh Rate set to : 60Hz nomodeset boot option eliminates flickering Turns out Display Refresh Rate Switching (DRRS) feature doesn't work correctly here. It was implemented on kernels 4.0...4.1 but on a particular machine flickering started with 4.1. As a workaround I'm attaching a patch which disables DRRS by default and adds module parameter "enable_drrs" to activate it. It's made for kernel 5.12 and should work for older versions as well (tested with 5.11). Until this issue is resolved, please consider adding parameter to disable DRRS. Windows has such option on Intel® Graphics Command Center.
