Bug description:
Using ubuntu 20.04 on displaylink docking with external monitor is
totally slow, unusable. The GUI responds very slow, if you click, the
command of the click goes on after about 3 seconds... if you type, all
the letters are with the same lag, so it is totally unusable.

Was using displaylink without any problem on 19.10 until yesterday, when I
upgraded to 20.04.
  It is terrific.

If i plug out the usb for the displaylink docking station, than the
speed is back, and the system is ok, if I connect it to the docking
station again, everything extremely slow again.

Please investigate this asap, as it is unusable on displaylink docking
  stations.

UVD firmware for AMD Southern Islands (GCN 1) GPUs is missing

Status in linux-firmware package in Ubuntu:
  Fix Released
Status in linux-firmware source package in Focal:
  Fix Committed

Bug description:
  [ Impact ]

AMD GPU not functional on Focal with HWE kernel.

  [ Test Case ]

  See original description below.

  [ Fix ]

Cherry-pick relevant commit from upstream linux-firmware.

[ Where Problems Could Occur ]

  Broken graphics with AMD GPUs.

  [ Original Description ]

  Release: up-to-date Focal LTS (20.04.3)
  Package-version: linux-firmware 1.187.20
Hardware model: [AMD/ATI] Chelsea LP [Radeon HD 7730M]

With the latest kernel upgrade (5.4 --> 5.11, if I recall correctly),
my laptop's discrete graphics stopped working. Looking at the logs, I
  found these messages:

  -- snippet --
kernel: [1.492908] [drm] amdgpu: dpm initialized
kernel: [1.492932] [drm] AMDGPU Display Connectors
kernel: [1.492951] amdgpu :01:00.0: Direct firmware load for

  -- snippet --

In fact, file '/lib/firmware/amdgpu/verde_uvd.bin' was missing.
  Running '$ dpkg -L linux-firmware | sort' gives this:

  -- snippet --
  /lib/firmware/amdgpu/vegam_uvd.bin
  /lib/firmware/amdgpu/vegam_vce.bin
  /lib/firmware/amdgpu/verde_ce.bin

  /lib/firmware/amdgpu/verde_me.bin
  /lib/firmware/amdgpu/verde_pfp.bin
  /lib/firmware/amdgpu/verde_rlc.bin
  /lib/firmware/amdgpu/verde_smc.bin
  /lib/firmware/amdgpu/yellow_carp_asd.bin
  /lib/firmware/amdgpu/yellow_carp_ce.bin
  -- snippet --

  Copying the file from upstream
  (https://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/firmware/linux-
firmware.git/tree/amdgpu/verde_uvd.bin) didn't work on my system,
probably because I use UEFI and the module wasn't signed (error
  below):

  -- snippet --
  kernel: [ 502.174932] amdgpu :01:00.0: amdgpu: amdgpu_uvd: Can't
validate firmware "amdgpu/verde_uvd.bin"
  kernel: [ 502.174992] [drm:amdgpu_device_ip_init [amdgpu]] *ERROR* sw_init
of IP block failed -22
  kernel: [ 502.175285] amdgpu :01:00.0: amdgpu: amdgpu_device_ip_init
failed
kernel: [ 502.175289] amdgpu :01:00.0: amdgpu: Fatal error during GPU
init
kernel: [ 502.175293] amdgpu :01:00.0: amdgpu: amdgpu: finishing device.
  -- snippet --

I can confirm that reverting kernel driver to 'radeonsi' makes the
device usable again, but at the expense of Vulkan APIs (not supported
  by this driver).

  Could you, please, fix this?

Title:
Thinkpad E14 Gen2: Kernel panic with trackpad and trackpoint enabled

Status in linux package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed
Status in linux source package in Impish:
  Fix Released
Status in linux source package in Jammy:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
  [Impact]

On some thinkpads we may get a kernel panic at boot, because the
elantech driver (trakcpad) can trigger out-of-bounds access in the
  stack.

  [Test case]

Simply boot the kernel on one of the affected systems (e.g., Thinkpad
  E14 Gen2).

  [Fix]

Prevent the stack out of bound access by applying the following
  upstream commit (from linux-next):

1d72d9f960cc ("Input: elantech - fix stack out of bound access in
  elantech_change_report_id()")

  [Regression potential]

The fix is touching the elantech driver, so we could only see
regressions with this specific trackpad/mouse driver.

  [Original bug report]

I installed the Ubuntu 21.10 beta and as soon as I boot I get the
kernel panic that I am attaching.

I also installed Ubuntu 21.04 and upgraded, as soon as I boot with the
5.13 kernel I get the same problem, disabling the trackpad and
trackpoint in the bios the problem disappears.

Everything works with the 5.11 kernel.
I remain available for further details and sorry for my lack of experience.

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1945348] Re: Yellow Carp S0i3 stability fix

  Yellow Carp S0i3 stability fix

Status in amd:
  Fix Released
Status in linux-oem-5.14 package in Ubuntu:

Status in linux-oem-5.14 source package in Focal:
  Fix Released

Bug description:
  [Impact]

Below errors are reported with S0i3 on Yellow carp where under
stress testing with 5.14.0 through 5.14.8.

[drm:amdgpu_device_ip_resume_phase2 [amdgpu]] *ERROR* resume of IP block
 failed -110
amdgpu :04:00.0: amdgpu: amdgpu_device_ip_resume failed (-110).
PM: dpm_run_callback(): pci_pm_resume+0x0/0x90 returns -110
amdgpu :04:00.0: PM: failed to resume async: error -110

  [Fix]

The patch fixes this by forcing exit gfxoff for sdma resume.

The patch is in 5.15-rc4

  [Test]

This is requested by AMD.

  [Where problems could occur]

Low risk. This only affects AMD platforms with s0ix supports. The
changes repeat what is (should be) done in firmware.

  = original descriptions =

A problem is identified with S0i3 on Yellow carp where under stress
testing with 5.14.0 through 5.14.8 sometimes there will be failures.

  It will manifest as:

[drm:amdgpu_device_ip_resume_phase2 [amdgpu]] *ERROR* resume of IP block
 failed -110
  amdgpu :04:00.0: amdgpu: amdgpu_device_ip_resume failed (-110).
  PM: dpm_run_callback(): pci_pm_resume+0x0/0x90 returns -110
amdgpu :04:00.0: PM: failed to resume async: error -110

The fix for this will be going into 5.15-rcX and also to 5.14.y. Just want
to give a pointer to Canonical team that if this comes up where to expect the
fix for OEM kernel.
The patch going into 5.15-rcX and 5.14.y is:
https://lists.freedesktop.org/archives/amd-gfx/2021-September/069451.html

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1845797]

2022-01-03 Thread sam.voss
Unfortunately I replicated those same failures. All five speakers work
just fine in Windows (using qemu) although the played back verbs will
only continue activating the same speakers. When I tested it I was able
to "break" and "restore" the speakers using different verb-sets, so
while it's definitely making some changes, it doesn't seem to be
impacting the bottom speakers in the slightest.

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1956239] Re: ipu6: TGL: himx11b1: failed to find sensor

2022-01-03 Thread You-Sheng Yang
Attach media-ctl dumps. oem-5.13 one was captured after a cold boot,
so the sensor is working, and oem-5.14 one always fails.

** Summary changed:

- ipu6: TGL: himx11b1: failed to fid sensor after warm boots
+ ipu6: TGL: himx11b1: failed to find sensor

** Description changed:

- This happens only on warm boots:
+ On oem-5.13 kernels, this happens only on warm boots:

+ [6.129618] intel_ulpss 3-6:1.0: intel_ulpss_i2c_start i2c start failed
len:-1 id:0 0
  [6.373718] hm11b1 i2c-HIMX11B1:00: failed to find sensor: -5
  [6.373806] hm11b1: probe of i2c-HIMX11B1:00 failed with error -5

+ But on oem-5.14 kernels proposed in bug 1955383, this fails always.

Please investigate this asap, as it is unusable on displaylink docking
  stations.

From the media-ctl output, it suggests the source/sink pads formats
might not be initialized correctly.

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1956232] Re: ipu6: ov01a1s: failed to init camera

2022-01-03 Thread You-Sheng Yang
kernel fails to initialize INT3472 from power_logic_ctrl driver
dedicated for IPU6 camera:

[6.032879] intel_ulpss 3-6:1.0: found: 3-6:1.0 -> INTC1074
[6.033122] intel_ulpss 3-6:1.0: Found: 3-6:1.0 -> INTC1075
[6.119468] int3472-discrete INT3472:06: error -EBUSY: Failed to map GPIO to
clock
[6.119583] int3472-discrete: probe of INT3472:06 failed with error -1

But this appears in both cases so it's not the root cause.

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1956232] Re: ipu6: ov01a1s: failed to init INT3472 on TGL with recent ipu middleware release: error: -EBUSY: Failed to map GPIO to check

2022-01-03 Thread You-Sheng Yang
** Description changed:

- TBD.
- ---
+ With proposed oem-5.14 kernel from bug 1955383 and latest middleware
+ installed, kernel fails to initialize INT3472 from power_logic_ctrl
+ driver dedicated for IPU6 camera:
+
+ [6.032879] intel_ulpss 3-6:1.0: found: 3-6:1.0 -> INTC1074
+ [6.033122] intel_ulpss 3-6:1.0: Found: 3-6:1.0 -> INTC1075
+ [6.119468] int3472-discrete INT3472:06: error -EBUSY: Failed to map GPIO
to clock
+ [6.119583] int3472-discrete: probe of INT3472:06 failed with error -1
+
+ Installed middleware are:
+ * linux-firmware: 1.187.24+staging.39
+ * libipu6: 0~git202112020845.a14b40c-1~ubuntu20.04.1

+ * libcamhal0: 0~git202112130639.4585612~ubuntu20.04.1
+ * libgsticamerainterface-1.0-1: 0~git202112230614.eb13eb1~ubuntu20.04.1
+ * gstreamer1.0-icamera: 0~git202112230614.eb13eb1~ubuntu20.04.1
+
+ But when switched back to following ones, same oem-5.14 kernel works
+ just fine:
+
+ * libipu6: 0~git202104021802.45905c6-1~ubuntu20.04.1
+ * libcamhal-common: 0~git202105200731.43dcb4c~ubuntu20.04.1

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1945590] Re: Thinkpad E14 Gen2: Kernel panic with trackpad and trackpoint enabled

1d72d9f960cc ("Input: elantech - fix stack out of bound access in
  elantech_change_report_id()")

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1951868] Re: [amdgpu] USB4 support for DP tunneling

2022-01-03 Thread Iris Lin
Hi Canonical Team,

HP has validated DP Tunneling/DP ALT MODE/PCIe Tunneling/USB3 Tunneling
are functional in Ubuntu 20.04 kernel 5.14-OEM with the latest 1012
proposed SRU. This proposed kernel 1012 should go into the next official
updates repo (target early January).

  [Impact]
DP tunneling over USB4 requires additional work in the AMD GPU driver that
isn't present in 5.14 or 5.15. The code is included in 5.16 kernel and will
need to be backported into 5.14 OEM kernel (and jammy/5.15) to support any
programs that need it.

  [Fix]
  Cherry-pick/backport 30 commits from 5.16 to 5.15. OEM-5.14 needs a few
additional ones from 5.15.

  WCN6856 Bluetooth doesn't work.

  [Fix]
Backport firmware blobs and driver support to make it work by loading
  correct firmwares.

  [Test]
Bluetooth scanning and pairing work, and continue to do so after several
  suspend/resume cycles.

  [Where problems could occur]
The upstream version of btusb_generate_qca_nvm_name() adds several
missing le*_to_cpu() macros, so if this device was ever used on a Big
Endian system, this is a behavioral change.

  Qualcomm WCN6856 doens't work.

  [Fix]
Backport missing bits to make Wifi 5 work. Wifi 6 support is not in the
  scope of this SRU.

  [Test]
The system can connect to Wifi. Wifi still works after several rounds of
  suspend/resume cycles.

  [Where problems could occur]
The change is limited to ath11k, which is also the only user of mhi bus,
so the scope of risk is limited. Let alone it never worked before, so
there's not much room to go wrong.

Bug description:
  == kernel driver SRU ==

  [SRU Justification]

  [Impact]

To support Intel IPU6 MIPI camera on Alder Lake platforms.

  [Fix]

Initial support for Intel IPU6 MIPI camera on Tiger Lake platforms has
been addressed by bug 1921345 and 1939539. They are backported from
  https://github.com/intel/ipu6-drivers.

Further works to enable IPU6 camera on Alder Lake platforms depend on a
few more fixes from same ipu6-drivers repository, as well as an extra
  https://github.com/intel/ivsc-driver for Intel Vision Sensing
  Controller(IVSC).

  [Test Case]

This depends on an integral of enablement components inclusive of the
kernel drivers that are being proposed, firmware, updates for the
userspace camera hardware abstration layer library and a gstreamer
element as what we have for Tiger Lake platforms.

  [Where problems could occur]

It's confirmed Intel IPU6 MIPI camera doesn't support suspend at
  streaming.

  [Other Info]

Jammy is planned, but yet the support for 5.15 kernel is not yet started
  from Intel side.

  == linux-firmware SRU ==

  [SRU Justification]

  [Impact]

Intel IPU6 MIPI camera on Alder Lake platform takes a different fw
  blob.

  [Fix]

While Intel has no intention to upstream IPU6 driver before kernel
camera is out, it's available in
  https://github.com/intel/ipu6-camera-bins commit e60fae2b5128 from its
  main branch.

  [Test Case]

This would take both kernel and firmware fixes, as well as updates for
the userspace middleware, gstreamer element plugin, to enable the device.
With all of them in position, one should be able to browse camera with
  legacy camera apps like cheese.

  [Where problems could occur]

It's confirmed Intel IPU6 MIPI camera doesn't support suspend at
  streaming.
