[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1950062] Re: Unable to access CPU i2c interfaces with AMD "Cezanne" CPU's

2022-08-13 Thread TheRogueZeta
I'm still seeing the errors on 5.15.0-46-generic. Which update should
this be fixed in?

5.18.0 is working fine.

Bug description:
OpenRGB uses the CPU SMBus/i2c interfaces to talk to the motherboard
RGB controller and the DRAM RGB controllers and after updating my
system to a 5700G from a 2400G I see error messages in dmesg for each
read and write attempt to the interfaces. If I swap the CPU back on
the same install I am able to see and control the RGB interfaces.

Another user on the OpenRGB discord with a 5600G is also seeing the
  same issues.

Title:
restarting nfs-server seems to create memory corruption

Status in linux package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
I just upgraded an NFS server from 20.04 to 22.04. Because of problems
in my setup, it didn't come up cleanly. As part of recovery I did
"systemctl restart nfs-server." I did this after two reboots. In both
cases shortly thereafter I got one or more backtraces in syslog

  Aug 11 09:49:25 eternal.lcsr.rutgers.edu kernel: [ 286.197557] refcount_t:
addition on 0; use-after-free.
  ...
  Aug 11 09:49:25 eternal.lcsr.rutgers.edu kernel: [ 286.197695]
get_nfsdfs_client+0x65/0x80 [nfsd]

I'm not giving the whole thing because it should show in the data sent by
apport.

Also, starting after the first one, I started seeing things
  like Aug 11 09:49:26 eternal.lcsr.rutgers.edu rpc.mountd[19922]: v4.0 client
detached: (null) from (null)
  Aug 11 09:49:26 eternal.lcsr.rutgers.edu rpc.mountd[19922]: message repeated
1831 times: [ v4.0 client detached: (null) f\
  rom (null)]

About 30 min after the first attempted restart, the kernel crashed. I
have no further information, because it hung in the startup process
when trying to get a dump. That means I don't absolutely know that the
crash was due to the restart nfs-server. However our NFS servers have
been quite stable otherwise, under both 20.04 and 22.04, so it seems a
good bet the crash is connected.

At least the use-after-free seems reproducible, since I saw it both
times I tried the same thing after rebooting.

I guess you have ES8336

See https://github.com/thesofproject/linux/wiki/ES8336-support

there is a working setup now , but far away from OOTB support in Ubuntu

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1810183] Re: numpad on touchpad doesn't work in ASUS Zenbook 14

2022-08-13 Thread Lukáš Drahník
I add an attachment that contains all models which should include
NumberPad (at this moment, maybe new models will be coming), sent by
Asus support!. Anyway I found mistakes without NumberPad but like 5
times only. Each row also includes which layout each model uses, it was
done manually googling each laptop by me. More information about each
assigned keyboard NumberPad layout you can get from my driver repository
here: https://github.com/asus-linux-drivers/asus-touchpad-numpad-
driver/tree/master/numpad_layouts

Bug description:
  [Impact]
During suspend and resume, system would hang.

  [Fix]
The impact of this regression is the same for resume that I saw on
thaw: the kernel hangs and nothing except SysRq rebooting can be done.

Fixes regression in commit cbe6c3a8f8f4 ("net: atlantic: invert deep
par in pm functions, preventing null derefs"), where I disabled deep
pm resets in suspend and resume, trying to make sense of the
atl_resume_common() deep parameter in the first place.

It turns out, that atlantic always has to deep reset on pm
operations. Even though I expected that and tested resume, I screwed
up by kexec-rebooting into an unpatched kernel, thus missing the
  breakage.

This fixup obsoletes the deep parameter of atl_resume_common, but I
leave the cleanup for the maintainers to post to mainline.

Suspend and hibernation were successfully tested by the reporters.

  [Test Case]
  1. Suspend the machine
  2. wake up the machine and check if system could work.

  [Where problems could occur]
  Low

** Changed in: linux-aws (Ubuntu Jammy)
 Assignee: (unassigned) => gerald.yang (gerald-yang-tw)

** Changed in: linux-aws (Ubuntu Kinetic)
Assignee: (unassigned) => Matthew Ruffell (mruffell)

** Description changed:

- Hibernation testing of jammy/linux-aws 5.15.0-1003-aws is failing on all
- xen instance types (c3/c4/i3/m3/m4/r3/r4/t2). The failure happens while
- attempting to resume from the first attempt to hibernate. Testing on
- nitro instances types (c5/m5/r5/t3) all pass.
+ [Impact]

- After the resume, the system is inaccessible via ssh. The console
- screenshot does change, but the console log obtained from `aws ec2 get-
- console-output` does not.
+ Hibernation currently fails for all AWS Xen instance types
+ (c3/c4/i3/m3/m4/r3/r4/t2) with all Jammy 5.15 and Kinetic 5.19 linux-aws
+ kernels.
+
+ When attempting to hibernate, the system gets stuck in
+ sync_inodes_one_sb() when processing the rootfs, fails to hibernate, and
+ shuts down. When you start the instance, it starts fresh, and does not
+ resume from the incomplete hibernation image. Networking is also broken,
+ and you cannot ssh in.
+
+ Upon review of the jammy/linux-aws git log, it appears that the kernel
+ is missing AWS hibernation enablement patches entirely. These need to be
+ included to get hibernation working.
+
+ [Fix]
+
+ Hibernation currently works on the Amazon Linux 2 5.15 Kernel:
+
+ After careful review of the amazon-5.15.y/mainline branch, we have found
+ the below set of patches authored by Amazon AWS Hibernation team to be
+ minimally sufficient to get hibernation working on both Jammy 5.15 and
+ Kinetic 5.19.
+
+ x86: Disable KASLR when Xen is detected
+ xen: Restore xen-pirqs on resume from hibernation
+ xen-netfront: call netif_device_attach on resume
+ xen: Only restore the ACPI SCI interrupt in xen_restore_pirqs.
+ xen: restore pirqs on resume from hibernation.
+ block: xen-blkfront: consider new dom0 features on restore
+ x86: tsc: avoid system instability in hibernation
+ xen-blkfront: Fixed blkfront_restore to remove a call to negotiate_mq
+ Revert "xen: dont fiddle with event channel masking in suspend/resume"
+ PM / hibernate: update the resume offset on SNAPSHOT_SET_SWAP_AREA
+ x86/xen: close event channels for PIRQs in system core suspend callback
+ xen/events: add xen_shutdown_pirqs helper function
+ x86/xen: save and restore steal clock
+ xen/time: introduce xen_{save,restore}_steal_clock
+ xen-netfront: add callbacks for PM suspend and hibernation support
+ xen-blkfront: add callbacks for PM suspend and hibernation
+ x86/xen: add system core suspend and resume callbacks
+ x86/xen: Introduce new function to map HYPERVISOR_shared_info on Resume
+ xenbus: add freeze/thaw/restore callbacks support
+ xen/manage: introduce helper function to know the on-going suspend mode
+ xen/manage: keep track of the on-going suspend mode
+
+ These patches will be carried as SAUCE patches, and their subjects
+ marked with "UBUNTU: SAUCE [aws]". Their upstream is the Amazon
+ Hibernation team, with the repo being the Amazon Linux 2 kernel repo.
+
+ [Testcase]
+
+ 1. Log into Amazon EC2.
+ 2. Select Launch Instance.
+ 3. Under Instance Type, select any from (c3/c4/i3/m3/m4/r3/r4/t2). I suggest
t2.medium.
+ 4. Select the "Ubuntu 22.04 LTS HVM (SSD type)" AMI in the quicklaunch pane.
+ 5. Select your SSH keypair.
+ 6. In storage, select 20gb. Go to the advanced tab, and set Encrypted: Yes.
+ 7. Under Advanced Settings for the instance, set "Stop - Hibernate" to Enable.
+ 8. Create the Instance. SSH in.
+ 9. Wait 5 minutes for hibinit-agent to create /swap-hibinit swapfile and
configure grub.
+ 10. Start a screen session. Echo some text and then detach with ctrl-d.
+ 11. Log out from instance.
+ 12. In EC2, select "Instance State" > "Hibernate".
+ 13. Wait 30 seconds to one minute. The state will go from "Stopping" to
"Stopped".
+ 14. Start the instance again.
+ 15. SSH in.
+ 16. Attempt to resume screen session with "screen -r".
+
+ If you are not able to ssh into the instance, hibernation had failed. If
+ ssh works and the screen session is still running, hibernation was
+ successful.
+
+ Alternatively, the CPC team can run their Hibernation testsuite over
+ Jammy and Kinetic.
+
+ We have built test kernels for

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1959728] Re: trackpad doesn't work on Lenovo X1 Yoga Titanium after suspend/resume

2022-08-13 Thread Alan Ferrier
An interesting observation - if I suspend the laptop via the keyboard
shortcut or suspend menu *before* closing the laptop, it appears to
mitigate the issue - the trackpad still works when I re-open the lid.
Dunno if this is helpful - it's non-optimal but better than a power-
cycle.

Title:
trackpad doesn't work on Lenovo X1 Yoga Titanium after suspend/resume

Status in linux package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
On my X1 Yoga Titanium (which has a fancy new "Sensel" trackpad with
haptic response to clicks), the trackpad stops working after a
suspend/resume cycle, although the red trackpoint continues to work
fine for controlling the pointer. I believe this system is using S0i3
for suspend, in case that's relevant.

If I boot from power off, then the trackpad works fine in both the
pre-boot BIOS and in Ubuntu 22.04 (prerelease), including haptic
response to clicks. After a suspend/resume cycle, the trackpad stops
responding, although a lot of swiping/pressing will occasionally
produce a button press event. This state persists even if I reboot
out of Linux (without a power cycle) - for example the trackpad no
longer works for the pre-boot BIOS configuration screen, until a full
power cycle (which fixes the trackpad).

Possibly relevant, the trackpad seems to be this device to the kernel:
