  Background:

  Filed a bug report as per question:
  https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+question/662421

  I'm trying to run lm_sensors on my brand new motherboard (Gigabyte
  Technology Co., Ltd. Z370 AORUS Ultra Gaming-CF) using the Z370
  chipset, and according to the author/maintainer of lm_sensors/it87
  driver, fan controls would be supported by chip it8686.

  Currently such chip is supported only in it87 version
  https://github.com/groeck/it87; unfortunately both Ubuntu's new LTS
  Bionic and Torvalds' repositories have got an outdated version of this
  driver (and possible lm_sensors itself):

  *
http://kernel.ubuntu.com/git/ubuntu/ubuntu-bionic.git/tree/drivers/hwmon/it87.c
  * https://github.com/torvalds/linux/blob/master/drivers/hwmon/it87.c

  Can you please update Bionic (at least) to feature this updated driver?
  Controlling fans speed and other motherboard parameters would be great,
especially on new hardware.

  Thanks!

  Full discussion thread with driver maintainer here:
  https://github.com/groeck/lm-sensors/issues/44

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1993040] Missing required logs.

2022-10-15 Thread Ubuntu Kernel Bot
This bug is missing log files that will aid in diagnosing the problem.
While running an Ubuntu kernel (not a mainline or third-party kernel)
please enter the following command in a terminal window:

apport-collect 1993040

and then change the status of the bug to 'Confirmed'.

If, due to the nature of the issue you have encountered, you are unable
to run this command, please add a comment stating that fact and change
the bug status to 'Confirmed'.

This change has been made by an automated script, maintained by the
Ubuntu Kernel Team.

Title:
  After resuming from suspend, NIC has WOL disabled

Status in linux package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete

Bug description:
  I have my NIC configured with WOL in magic packet mode:

  ```
  $ sudo ethtool enp5s0
  Settings for enp5s0:
  ...
  Supports Wake-on: pumbg
  Wake-on: g
  ```

  However, every time I resume the system from suspend once, WOL becomes
  disabled:

  ```
  $ sudo ethtool enp5s0
  Settings for enp5s0:
  ...
  Supports Wake-on: pumbg
  Wake-on: d
  ```

  I can re-enable it and it'll work fine. If I don't re-enable it, I am
  unable to use magic packet to WOL if I suspend the system again (as
  expected, since it gets disabled).

  This seems to be new behaviour with Jammy - I didn't experience this
  problem on Bionic with the same hardware.

  Driver info:

  ```
  $ sudo ethtool -i enp5s0
[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1993041] [NEW] nvidia-driver-515 (515.76-0ubuntu0.22.04.1): blank screen after boot, can't log in
2022-10-15 Thread fprietog
Public bug reported:
System: Ubuntu 22.04.1 LTS (x86-64)
Kernel: 5.15.0-50-generic
NVIDIA card: NVIDIA Corporation GA102 [GeForce RTX 3080 Lite Hash Rate] (rev a1)
Problem summary:
Just updated "nvidia-driver-515" package from "515.65.01-0ubuntu0.22.04.1" to
newest "515.76-0ubuntu0.22.04.1". It results in a blank screen after boot and
before showing graphical login (gdm) so can't log in.
Seems that keyboard doesn't work in this situation so I can't change to a text
session. Instead, I used a remote ssh session to get some info: journalctl.txt,
dmesg.txt, lspci.txt and nvidia-smi.txt files attached.
Card is connected to monitor using HDMI output.
Notes:
- Previous "nvidia-driver-515" version, "515.65.01-0ubuntu0.22.04.1", worked as
expected. Unfortunately I can't install that version again because it seems to
be deleted from the repository.
- Previous "nvidia-driver-510" version, "510.85.02-0ubuntu0.22.04.1", works as
expected.
  However, every time I resume the system from suspend once, WOL becomes
  disabled:
  ```
  $ sudo ethtool enp5s0
  Settings for enp5s0:
  ...
  Supports Wake-on: pumbg
  Wake-on: d
  ```
  I can re-enable it and it'll work fine. If I don't re-enable it, I am
  unable to use magic packet to WOL if I suspend the system again (as
  expected, since it gets disabled).
  This seems to be new behaviour with Jammy - I didn't experience this
  problem on Bionic with the same hardware.
  Driver info:
  ```
  $ sudo ethtool -i enp5s0

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1993040] [NEW] After resuming from suspend, NIC has WOL disabled

2022-10-15 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

I have my NIC configured with WOL in magic packet mode:

```
$ sudo ethtool enp5s0
Settings for enp5s0:
...
Supports Wake-on: pumbg
Wake-on: g
```

However, every time I resume the system from suspend once, WOL becomes
disabled:

```
$ sudo ethtool enp5s0
Settings for enp5s0:
...
Supports Wake-on: pumbg
Wake-on: d
```

```
$ sudo ethtool -i enp5s0
driver: igb
version: 5.15.0-48-generic
firmware-version:  0. 6-1
expansion-rom-version:
bus-info: :05:00.0
supports-statistics: yes
[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1990750] Re: Boot issue with Ubuntu 22.10 Kinetic Kudu since Kernel 5.19.0.15.15, now hanging with blinking cursor after update to Kernel 5.19.0.21.21
2022-10-15 Thread Brian Murray
Could you try booting with a daily live image, available at
https://cdimage.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/daily-live/current/, and see if the
issue exists with it? Thanks in advance.
Title:
  Boot issue with Ubuntu 22.10 Kinetic Kudu since Kernel 5.19.0.15.15,
  now hanging with blinking cursor after update to Kernel 5.19.0.21.21
Status in linux package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed
Bug description:
  When starting the PC, the splash screen freezes with the motherboard logo
displayed.
  As my disk is encrypted the decryption field does not appear below the logo.
  By typing [ALT] + [CTRL] + [DEL] then the splash screen appears again
followed by a start-up menu with the following line:
  *Ubuntu
   Advanced options for Ubuntu
  By selecting 'Advanced options for Ubuntu' the following submenu appears:
  *Ubuntu, with Linux5.19.0-15-generic
   Ubuntu, with Linux5.19.0-15-generic (recovery mode)
  Selecting the second option, then the system starts loading with the initial
lines of code:
  Loading Linux 5.19.0-15-generic ...
  Loading initial ramdisk ...
  When code has finished loading, the last line at the bottom of the screen is
for unlocking the disk:
  Begin: Mounting root fie system ... Begin Running /script/local-top ...
Please unlock disk nvme0n1p3_crypt:
  Then i type in the code and hit [return] and more code is loading, until a
recovery menu with purple background appears, with the title:
  Recovery Menu (filesystem state: read-only).
  I select the first menu item:
  resume  Resume normal boot
  and hit [return].
  The menu changes to the notification:
  You are now going to exit the recovery mode bla bla bla
  with the [OK] button below it.
  I hit the [OK] button and then the login screen finally appears.
  I will post a video of the complete boot sequence later on as I need
  to install a softaware to edit the video.
  It is noteworthy that on my previous Ubuntu 22.04 install the same
  issue with the frozen splash screen occurred when my system was
  updated with Kernel 5.15.5, but then I did not try out to execute the
  [ALT] + [CTRL] + [DEL] command.
  Therefore the bug is probably affecting all kernels from 5.15.5
  upwards.
[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1992679] Re: Can not login after new kernel installed (nvidia driver crashed)
2022-10-15 Thread Tom
Exactly the same issue.
5.15.0-50 did not boot at all.
Went back to 5.15.0-48, Ubuntu software manager claimed some updates had
to be done and I did them.
Now 5.15.0-48 no longer boots, my machine is unusable... Not ideal at
all...
Title:
  end user has no hint on choosing the working driver and rollback if
Status in linux package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed
Bug description:
  Hi,
  Ubuntu 22.04 LTS here.
  I don't know if it is a bug directly linked to linux kernel but:
  Before my July holidays, PC booted fine, in less than 3sec, when I came back
in august, there were some updates to install, including new kernel 5.15.0-46.
  After installing, I never was able to boot on it.
  - PC boot
  - GRUB will load
  - default select lastest kernel (5.15.0-46)
  - [see 1st attached PNG] a few line of log appears (same on working boot)
  - [see 2nd attached PNG] then default boot screen "MSI + ubuntu logo"
appears, but "long time"
  - [see 3rd attached PNG] then  [ OK ] linux boot log  got displayed and stay
on same line for few moment too. I guess that's the attached image that show
the most important stuff.
  - [see 4th attached PNG] then black screen with top left corner with the
white blinky cursor
  - CTRL+ALT+DEL to reboot
  To use my PC I have to choose additional ubuntu options and select 5.15.0-41
in grub.
  Using this option allow to boot normaly, and got livepatch applying an update
at every reboot (so if it apply the -46, it works during live patch, but sadly
not on hard reboot.
  Do you need more info/logs ?
[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1990750] [NEW] Boot issue with Ubuntu 22.10 Kinetic Kudu since Kernel 5.19.0.15.15, now hanging with blinking cursor after update to Kernel 5.19.0.21.21
2022-10-15 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug by atactic (atactic):
When starting the PC, the splash screen freezes with the motherboard logo
displayed.
As my disk is encrypted the decryption field does not appear below the logo.
By typing [ALT] + [CTRL] + [DEL] then the splash screen appears again followed
by a start-up menu with the following line:
*Ubuntu
 Advanced options for Ubuntu
By selecting 'Advanced options for Ubuntu' the following submenu appears:
*Ubuntu, with Linux5.19.0-15-generic
 Ubuntu, with Linux5.19.0-15-generic (recovery mode)
Selecting the second option, then the system starts loading with the initial
lines of code:
Loading Linux 5.19.0-15-generic ...
Loading initial ramdisk ...
When code has finished loading, the last line at the bottom of the screen is
for unlocking the disk:
Begin: Mounting root fie system ... Begin Running /script/local-top ... Please
unlock disk nvme0n1p3_crypt:
Then i type in the code and hit [return] and more code is loading, until a
recovery menu with purple background appears, with the title:
Recovery Menu (filesystem state: read-only).
I select the first menu item:
resume  Resume normal boot
and hit [return].
The menu changes to the notification:
You are now going to exit the recovery mode bla bla bla
with the [OK] button below it.
I hit the [OK] button and then the login screen finally appears.
I will post a video of the complete boot sequence later on as I need to
install a softaware to edit the video.
It is noteworthy that on my previous Ubuntu 22.04 install the same issue
with the frozen splash screen occurred when my system was updated with
Kernel 5.15.5, but then I did not try out to execute the [ALT] + [CTRL]
+ [DEL] command.
Therefore the bug is probably affecting all kernels from 5.15.5 upwards.
[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1990750] Re: Boot issue with Ubuntu 22.10 Kinetic Kudu Kernel 1 5.19.0.15.15
2022-10-15 Thread atactic
Kernel has been updated to version 5.19.0.21.21 and now during boot the
system hangs with a white blinking cursor after hitting the [OK] button
following the resume Resume normal boot option (see above explanations
about boot sequence).
I had to hard reboot the system and select instead from the 'Advanced options
for Ubuntu' the
'Ubuntu, with Linux5.19.0-19-generic (recovery mode)' to be able to start the
system again.
Would be thankful to the forum if this bug could be addressed as issues
are getting worse and worse, fearing that with the next kernel update
that would remove the kernel 5.19.0.19.19 the system may not be starting
at all any more due to the just described issue.
