Apparently I've just got the exact same bug, with the same machine (M3800). My kernel currently is 3.16.0-43. The bug also shows up with 3.16.0-41. It makes the headphones absolutely unusable. The white noise sound pops up when the sound card is woken up, and it disappears (or more precisely

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1617599] Re: Resume from suspend causes reboot, except if USB key is plugged in

2016-09-02 Thread Cyril Soler
I do not have windows, but I suppose that the same would apply on windows. It seems to me indeed that when the computer is woken up, the operating system doesn't even have a clue (as I can see in the various logs in /var/log) that is gets started up from scratch instead of being woken up from S3

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1617599] [NEW] Resume from suspend causes reboot, except if USB key is plugged in

2016-08-27 Thread Cyril Soler
Public bug reported: I have been struggling to find out how to get my laptop (Dell M3800) using ubuntu 16.04 to resume from suspend. It goes into suspend (with no errors in /var/log/pm-suspend.log). But when resuming, it immediately reboots, with no errors in /var/log/pm-suspend either. *but*

2016-08-28 Thread Cyril Soler
It seems to be a problem of misconfigured BIOS. In the first place I had to enable "USB Wake support" in the bios (v.A09) in order to allow the computer to wake up. Before that, it would just not wake up at all and needed a hard reboot to do so. I'm not sure that Linux is at stake at all. -- You

Same for me: ubuntu 18.04 just installed on Dell Precision M3800. Before I was on 16.04 and CPU temp during normal session was about 47-55 deg. Now, it's constantly at 63-80 deg. I tried lots of tweaks (install thermald, tlp, cpufreq-selector, etc). Nothing worked until now. I'm seriously
