[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1305172] [NEW] Frequent system hangs, pcieport bus error messages
Public bug reported: I installed Trusty beta 2, and since then have had maximum uptime of about 12 hours. System hangs frequently, sometimes with mouse still active, sometimes not. The clock in the upper right of the screen shows the time of the hang. I have not yet established whether the machine can be pinged when it is in this state. Nothing obvious in the logs except an increasingly frequent PCIe bus error similar to the one in bug 1279699, e.g. Apr 7 17:13:52 dank kernel: [ 810.166278] pcieport :00:07.0: AER: Multiple Corrected error received: id=0038 Apr 7 17:13:52 dank kernel: [ 810.166292] pcieport :00:07.0: PCIe Bus Error: severity=Corrected, type=Physical Layer, id=0038(Receiver ID) Apr 7 17:13:52 dank kernel: [ 810.166297] pcieport :00:07.0: device [8086:340e] error status/mask=0081/2000 Apr 7 17:13:52 dank kernel: [ 810.166300] pcieport :00:07.0:[ 0] Receiver Error Apr 7 17:13:52 dank kernel: [ 810.166303] pcieport :00:07.0:[ 7] Bad DLLP Apr 7 17:15:55 dank kernel: [ 933.083876] pcieport :00:07.0: AER: Multiple Corrected error received: id=0038 Apr 7 17:15:55 dank kernel: [ 933.083890] pcieport :00:07.0: PCIe Bus Error: severity=Corrected, type=Physical Layer, id=0038(Receiver ID) Apr 7 17:15:55 dank kernel: [ 933.083895] pcieport :00:07.0: device [8086:340e] error status/mask=0001/2000 Apr 7 17:15:55 dank kernel: [ 933.083898] pcieport :00:07.0:[ 0] Receiver Error Apr 7 17:24:20 dank kernel: [ 1438.648487] pcieport :00:07.0: AER: Multiple Corrected error received: id=0038 Apr 7 17:24:20 dank kernel: [ 1438.648502] pcieport :00:07.0: PCIe Bus Error: severity=Corrected, type=Physical Layer, id=0038(Receiver ID) Apr 7 17:24:20 dank kernel: [ 1438.648506] pcieport :00:07.0: device [8086:340e] error status/mask=0001/2000 Apr 7 17:24:20 dank kernel: [ 1438.648510] pcieport :00:07.0:[ 0] Receiver Error (First) ... [Kernel-packages] [Bug 1305172] Re: Frequent system hangs, pcieport bus error messages
I switched to the recommended proprietary nvidia driver, and since then there have been no hangs. So either some update may have fixed it, or it's in the Nouveau driver, or I'm just lucky. I should try switching back to Nouveau to see if it comes back, and if it does, I could then try the mainline kernel. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kernel Packages, which is subscribed to linux in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1305172 Title: Frequent system hangs, pcieport bus error messages Status in “linux” package in Ubuntu: Incomplete Bug description: I installed Trusty beta 2, and since then have had maximum uptime of about 12 hours. [Kernel-packages] [Bug 678419] Re: volname does not work for dvd's / udf images
No, I guess I got distracted. I'm pretty busy; if someone else wants to pick this up, that'd be fine. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kernel Packages, which is subscribed to eject in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/678419 Title: volname does not work for dvd's / udf images Status in “eject” package in Ubuntu: Incomplete Bug description: Binary package hint: eject The package 'eject' includes the handy utility 'volname'. eject works with both cd-roms and dvds, but volname doesn't. Let's fix that. I had a quick look at what it would take. First, udf seems complex, so rather than extend the simple hardcoded iso parser in volname.c, it might make sense to use libdvdread's handy UDFGetVolumeIdentifier() function, and fall back to the existing iso parser if that fails (e.g. if the disc is not udf format). Second, volname currently right-justifies the volume name, which probably works nicely with isos because their names are space-padded, but looks funny with dvds, because UDFGetVolumeIdentifier does not space-pad. Might want to left-justify the output of volname, or remove the padding. Third, libdvdread suffers from a bug ( http://bugzilla.mplayerhq.hu/show_bug.cgi?id=1451 ) which keeps it from reading the volume name properly. This is fixed upstream, but they haven't don't a release yet, so we'd want to include a patch. Fourth, libdvd's DVDOpen() function prints an annoying warning about encrypted dvds not being supported, even when you're just getting a volume name. [Kernel-packages] [Bug 1443762] Re: [LENOVO ThinkServer TS140] hibernate/resume failure
14.04.1 hibernates and resumes like a champ on this machine. On first try, it resumed a hibernated session with two terminals, an xclock, firefox, and amoeba. Did not test resume of wireless, but wired ethernet was fine. So this appears to be a regression in ubuntu 15.04 beta 2 relative to 14.04.1. w00t! (To test 14.04.1, I let it install side-by-side on my 2nd disk. 15.04 is installed on my 1st disk, an ssd. When resuming from hibernate, one goes through the grub prompt first evidently, but no other surprises. This machine uses the i3's built-in intel graphics with default drivers.) ** Tags added: regression-proposed ** Changed in: linux (Ubuntu) Status: Incomplete = Confirmed -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kernel Packages, which is subscribed to linux in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1443762 Title: [LENOVO ThinkServer TS140] hibernate/resume failure Status in linux package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Bug description: I tried pm-hibernate, and turned the computer back on after it shut down. Apparently, the i915 driver (in "drivers/gpu/drm/i915/intel_display.c") has not been updated for newer devices when reporting the maximum resolution. As you can see here: https://github.com/torvalds/linux/blob/master/drivers/gpu/drm/i915/intel_display.c#L14671 Only GEN_2 & GEN_3 are checked for, but since the 7th generation max virtual resolutions of 16384x16384 are supported. This issue has been reported to the i915 maintainers a few times, but nothing has changed yet :/ To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1774425/+subscriptions -- Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~kernel-packages Post to : kernel-packages@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~kernel-packages More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1714178] Re: Triple 4K monitor display failed (modesetting driver limited to 8192x8192)
This just changed for me... but the hardware may matter, as I'm on Hades Canyon, using the amd gpu, not HD graphics. A few days ago I updated to the then-latest 4.19-rc2 (and wrote https://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=2400400 documenting exactly what I did). Using plain old X (no desktop) on my Hades Canyon, I now see a 16384 x 16384 limit: $ xrandr Screen 0: minimum 320 x 200, current 11520 x 2160, maximum 16384 x 16384 Three screens horizontally work. https://www.mail-archive.com/amd-gfx@lists.freedesktop.org/msg24954.html looks related. [Kernel-packages] [Bug 1822426] Re: 19.04 Built in Intel HDA sound is disabled upon resume
FWIW, I ran into this after updating to 19.04 from 18.04. Audio working fine with HDMI (yay) but not with back panel audio (boo) unless I ran aplay as root, e.g. sudo aplay -D sysdefault:CARD=PCH /usr/share/sounds/alsa/Front_Left.wav ps showed timidity running. 'sudo apt remove timidity; sudo killall timidity' resolved the problem. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kernel Packages, which is subscribed to linux in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1822426 Title: 19.04 Built in Intel HDA sound is disabled upon resume Status in linux package in Ubuntu: Incomplete Status in pulseaudio package in Ubuntu: Incomplete Bug description: With 19.04, Intel Corporation 8 Series/C220 Series Chipset High Definition Audio Controller intermittently is not enabled when resuming from sleep. [Kernel-packages] [Bug 1896350] Re: nbd locks system?
Also seems to work fine on ubuntu 18.04 (fresh, fully updated). -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kernel Packages, which is subscribed to linux in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1896350 Title: nbd locks system? Status in linux package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Bug description: I'm trying to use nbd on ubuntu 20.04 like so: qemu-img create -f qcow2 foo.img 500M sudo modprobe nbd sudo qemu-nbd --disconnect /dev/nbd15 || true sudo qemu-nbd --connect=/dev/nbd15 --cache=writeback --format=qcow2 foo.img sudo mkfs.ext4 -L root -O "^64bit" -E nodiscard /dev/nbd15 sudo qemu-nbd --disconnect /dev/nbd15 It seems to work on some systems, but even on those systems, strange things show up in syslog, e.g. Sep 19 15:46:02 thinky kernel: [27042.757768] block nbd15: Possible stuck request dd2d7f93: control (read@135168,126976B).
