[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1077440] Re: [VMWare Player 5.0.x] Quantal+ as guest hangs at end of install

2013-08-31 Thread David Balažic
I just tried 12.04 again, and it hung again after clicking the Reboot button.
After a few minutes I pressed ctrl-c and then after a second it rebooted.

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1077440] Re: [VMWare Player 5.0.x] Quantal+ as guest hangs at end of install

2013-08-14 Thread David Balažic
I see the same graphic problem an a real PC. So:
 - it is hardware independent (read: if you're interested, you can most
probably reproduce it)
 - this is not actually the bug I opened here (hang versus broken toolbar)

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 658042] Re: (Live system) CD not mounted

2013-08-14 Thread David Balažic
It is the same. Inserted CD not mounted.

I tried the latest daily from the URL above on the same hardware.

The files manager app does not show any trace of the CD. If I moust it
with sudo mount /dev/sr2 /mnt it all starts working, a new file
manager windows appears with CD content, and an item of the CD under
Devices in the left panel, even in the other file manager window,
opened before.

Title:
  (Live system) CD not mounted

Status in “linux” package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete

Bug description:
I booted the ubuntu-10.10-desktop-i386.iso into Try mode.

  I have 3 optical units:

I inserted an iso9660 CD into one empty unit.
  It was not mounted.
Neither if inserted into other unit.

Mounting by mount /dev/cdrom /mnt works fine. For both units (the

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 658042] Re: (Live system) CD not mounted

2013-08-14 Thread David Balažic
After I try to eject the CD using the GUI, it is unmounted, but not ejected.
(an error dialog pops-up)
After that it also can not be ejected bz the hardware eject button.

eject /dev/sr2 also fails with:
eject: unable to eject, last error: Inappropriate ioctl for device

Inappropriate ioctl for device is also the error that appeared in the
error dialog.

sudo eject /dev/sr2 on the other hand works fine (ejects the CD
without any error)

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1212480] [NEW] live: press enter message not visible

2013-08-14 Thread David Balažic
Public bug reported:

Burned http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/daily-live/current/saucy-
desktop-i386.iso (downloaded an hour or two ago) to a DVD, then booted
it. I selected Try Ubuntu.

After a while I entered sudo reboot in an xterm.

The system went down, ejected the DVD and the hung there.

There were two lines of text on the screen, some part of the shutdown
script.

It did not say press return to continue as it used in older versions.

I pressed the return key and it did continue and rebooted at the end.

For apport details see bug 658042, I just run apport-collect there,
before the reboot.

** Affects: linux (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 658042] Re: CD-ROM units doesn't mount automatically under a Live environment

2013-09-22 Thread David Balažic
Is it possible to install a new kernel into the Live environment?
That would require making a new ISO, right?
Are there an instructions for that?
Just replace the kernel image file in the ISO?

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1077440] Re: [VMWare Player 5.0.1] Quantal as guest hangs at end of install

2013-08-10 Thread David Balažic
I downloaded saucy-desktop-i386 (at about 13:00 UTC today, the web page
on your link says : saucy-desktop-i386.iso 10-Aug-2013
08:19 878M

I used VMware Player 5.0.2 build-1031769 on Windows 8 Pro 64 bit.

After booting the ISO I got this screen: attachment first_screen.png

I can not continue, as every screen is like that (went one further) and
half of it is not visible, including the Next button, I would have to
navigate blind.

Also (later), with the blue circle icon menu at the top I turned on
High Contrast mode, but then there is no way to turn it off.

2013-08-10 Thread David Balažic
There is no hang either.
Just a gfx corruption. As pictured on the screenshot. I doubt there is a line
like due to reason x, the screen is shown 300 pixels lower than normal in any
log.

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1077440] Re: [VMWare Player 5.0.x] Quantal+ as guest hangs at end of install

2013-10-05 Thread David Balažic
I tried the todays daily * and it seems OK, with one thing (which I experienced
before too):
when after installation the reboot is done, the shutdown scripts is waiting for
a press of ENTER key, but the text saying so is not visible (see screenshot).
So it hangs there until I press ENTER.
After that it reboots into the installed Ubuntu system.

I guess the original bug is solved (it was a bit sporadic and frankly I
have no will to pursue this further).

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 658042] Re: CD-ROM units doesn't mount automatically under a Live environment

2013-10-05 Thread David Balažic
I just used the daily ISO build:
http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/daily-live/current/saucy-desktop-i386.iso
md5sum eb8ff86ce4fc10a305b918ce28e0908e
.disk/info:
Ubuntu 13.10 Saucy Salamander - Beta i386 (20131005)

It has kernel 3.11.0-11.17

Now the second CD unit (sr1) is mounted when a CD is inserted (great!),
but the third CD unit (sr2) is not (not great!).

Mounting from command line with mount /dev/sr2 works.

Also, after mounting and unmounting, both units eject button is dead.
I does not eject. Even after removing the media (by software eject) and
closing the tray (empty).

Ironically, the eject button on the first unit, where the boot media is
present (and mounted!) works. It ejects the tray. While it is mounted.

** Changed in: linux (Ubuntu)
   Status: Incomplete = Confirmed

I booted the ubuntu-10.10-desktop-i386.iso into Try mode.

Neither if inserted into other unit.

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 658042] Re: CD-ROM units doesn't mount automatically under a Live environment

2013-10-06 Thread David Balažic
1.) Which ISO should I customize? ubuntu-13.04-desktop-i386 ?

Are there any detailed instructions to replacing the kernel?
I followed
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/LiveCDCustomization?highlight=%28livecd%29#Live_CD_Kernel
but got a non-booting image. (it bootsm but later on it reports : mounting aufs
on /root failed: No such device

Can I just replace the two files vmlinuz and initrd.lz?
If yes, where do I get the initrd file?
If no, what are correct steps?

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1885450] [NEW] hangs on shutdown

2020-06-28 Thread David Balažic
Public bug reported:

Live Ubuntu 20.04 64bit hangs on shutdown, on two different PC.

The shutdown image is shown. Then I switch to text mode and there are
some messages.

Attached are two screenshots of the console in about 30 second interval.

After that I can reboot by SysReq keys.

** Affects: linux (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New

** Attachment added: "ububug_sd_1.jpg"
