While trying to do the kernel bisect, I noticed that reinstalling 3.2.0-45-generic I saw the same bug. It turns out that this is not an issue with the linux kernel package at all, but rather with uswsusp. Removing the uswsusp package and rebuilding the initrd seems to solve the issue, even for
