[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1757202] Re: xubuntu / bionic / nvidia-driver-390 can only be used by one user at a time

2019-09-11 Thread Ivan Frederiks
Same issue with Xubuntu 18.04.3
Used workaround with "Files" section, but I had to use
/usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/nvidia-430 path.
/usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/nvidia/xorg and /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/xorg do not
exist in my system.

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1559576] Re: Ubuntu GNOME boots to black screen when using proprietary Nvidia drivers on a laptop with Optimus

2016-05-29 Thread Ivan Frederiks
I found out that 'nouveau' driver comes with linux-image-extra package and
prevents 'nvidia' driver from being loaded. I blacklisted nouveau:
$ sudo -i
# echo "blacklist nouveau" > /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist-nouveau.conf
# update-initramfs -u -k all
# reboot
Finally everything works for me!

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1331077] Re: [Lenovo ThinkPad Edge E540] suspend/resume failure

2015-03-24 Thread Ivan Frederiks
@xc-racer2
Thank you for good news! BIOS update solved the issue for me.

BTW, after BIOS update my system became unbootable, looks like Ubuntu UEFI boot
entry was removed.
See http://superuser.com/questions/376470/how-to-reinstall-grub2-efi for
recovery procedure.

RAM.
  * however resume was impossible: wakeup failed through mouse clicks, various
keyboard keys and combinations and also the power key, only a hard reset (5s or
so holding down the power key) could bring it back to life

Adding the kernel cmdline option acpi_sleep=nonvs was of no avail,
  too.

I recently upgraded to a new BIOS v2.07 [1], I think the problem
  exists since then.

  Update
  ==
I confirmed that this is definitely a BIOS issue. The last working BIOS is
v1.61 [2], so the change was introduced by v2.07 [1]. Installing the latest
v2.08 [3] does not fix this problem.

So this is the changelog for v2.07 [1]:
  - (Fix) Fixed an issue that system will auto wakeup after shutdown when
battery capacity is under 15% on DC only.
  - (Fix) Fixed an issue related to APS.
  - (New) Added support for new GPU config.

By the way, I could not find a new GPU config option in the BIOS, same
old choice Integrated vs. Optimus, nothing new.

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1132156] Re: Realktek r8169 driver unrelaible with r8101/02

2013-11-05 Thread Ivan Frederiks
I found solution for this issue, at least for my case: one has to set
correct MAC-address before bringing up the interface.

On my board RTL8102E works without EEPROM, so MAC value is unpredictable. In
many cases this random value has multicast bit set to 1. This fact breaks
driver and (or) TCP stack operation:
* r8169 reports that link is down
* r8101 reports that link is OK, but Linux TCP stack ignores packets with
multicast destination MAC

Overall behavior of r8169 seems to be better than r8101's: second one
sometimes stops to transceive packets (once per several hours of
continuous TCP traffic, average load ~30Mbps down). In same conditions
r8169 works without issues (or at least I think so? (c)).

Realktek r8169 driver unrelaible with r8101/02

Status in “linux” package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
Support for the realtek r8101 Ethernet interfac is handled by r8169 driver on
Ubuntu Precise. However, the link is very unreliable and fails to connect most
of the time. Speed negotiates down to 10Mbit/sec usually, half duplex, even
when using the workaround 'sudo ethtool -s eth0 autoneg off'
There seems a problem with the link speed negotiation?
Won't connect at higher speeds at all.
It's not possible to use the r8101 driver previously available as this is
supplied by Realtek only for 2.4/2.6 kernels. It won't compile under 3.2.x
