[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1958151] Re: [SRU][I/J/OEM-5.13/OEM-5.14] Add basic support of MT7922

2022-01-26 Thread Shengyao Xue
I tested the 5.14.0.1021.18 in focal-proposed, the Wifi and BT works
only with 3 additional firmwares:

WIFI_RAM_CODE_MT7922_1.bin
WIFI_MT7922_patch_mcu_1_1_hdr.bin
BT_RAM_CODE_MT7922_1_1_hdr.bin

which are not available in latest linux-firmware(1.187.25) in Focal. We
need those firmwares lands to linux-firmware package.

No driver is loaded for MT7922, and fw is missing too.

  [Fix]
Add basic support of MT7922, and add ID of AMD RZ616/RZ608.
  Enable 160Mhz channel.

  [Test]
Verified on RZ616, it works fine, suspend OK.
  iperf test result looks fine.
  Bluetooth works fine.

  [Where problems could occur]
It may break MT7921 wifi support which shares mt7921e driver.
Almost the code is specific for MT7922, checking security fw is based on
MT7922 fw.

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1955383] Re: Support Intel IPU6 MIPI camera on Alder Lake platforms

2022-01-12 Thread Shengyao Xue
Another OEM also need this linux-firmware SRU(because the two additional
firmwares: rampatch_usb_00130200.bin and nvm_usb_00130200.bin):

https://bugs.launchpad.net/sutton/+bug/1939648/comments/10

And I confirmed the package in linux-firmware(1.187.25) can fix the
issue #1939648, the OEM schedule just need the package lands to focal-
updates from focal-proposed ASAP.

Bug description:
  == kernel driver SRU ==

  [SRU Justification]

  [Impact]

To support Intel IPU6 MIPI camera on Alder Lake platforms.

  [Fix]

Initial support for Intel IPU6 MIPI camera on Tiger Lake platforms has
been addressed by bug 1921345 and 1939539. They are backported from
  https://github.com/intel/ipu6-drivers.

Further works to enable IPU6 camera on Alder Lake platforms depend on a
few more fixes from same ipu6-drivers repository, as well as an extra
  https://github.com/intel/ivsc-driver for Intel Vision Sensing
  Controller(IVSC).

  [Test Case]

This depends on an integral of enablement components inclusive of the
kernel drivers that are being proposed, firmware, updates for the
userspace camera hardware abstration layer library and a gstreamer
element as what we have for Tiger Lake platforms.

  [Where problems could occur]

It's confirmed Intel IPU6 MIPI camera doesn't support suspend at
  streaming.

  [Other Info]

Jammy is planned, but yet the support for 5.15 kernel is not yet started
  from Intel side.

  == linux-firmware SRU ==

  [SRU Justification]

  [Impact]

Intel IPU6 MIPI camera on Alder Lake platform takes a different fw
  blob.

  [Fix]

While Intel has no intention to upstream IPU6 driver before kernel
camera is out, it's available in
  https://github.com/intel/ipu6-camera-bins commit e60fae2b5128 from its
  main branch.

  [Test Case]

This would take both kernel and firmware fixes, as well as updates for
the userspace middleware, gstreamer element plugin, to enable the device.
With all of them in position, one should be able to browse camera with
  legacy camera apps like cheese.

  [Where problems could occur]

It's confirmed Intel IPU6 MIPI camera doesn't support suspend at
  streaming.

  == original bug report ==

  This depends on following componenets:
  * ipu6ep firmware in
https://github.com/intel/ipu6-camera-bins/commit/e60fae2b5128cf5b8b948b234dab28e58c93877d
  * Intel VSC fw version 1.2.3.439 (not yet available publicly)

  can't record any sound.

  [Fix]
  Backport one patch from upstream.

  [Test]
Booting the patched kernel, open the gnome-sound-setting, plug a microphone,

sound, the sound is recorded successfully.

The change only applies to the specific machines with those SSIDs, it will
not introduce regression on other machines.

Massive network problems with I219-V on Thinkpad T14 Gen2 (e1000e)

Bug description:
  I recently got a Thinkpad T14 Gen2 with a I219-V network adapter
(8086:15fc). I get very slow connection speeds and even total loss of
connectivity without seeing much in the logs (like dmesg etc.).
ethtool reports CRC errors and paket loss. Besides Ubuntu 21.04/kernel
5.11 I tried to install Ubuntu 20.04 (kernel seems to old) and i tried
the e1000e driver directly from upstream (3.8.7) with no success.

A strange behaviour I observed: if connectivity is lost (notebook is
not reachable via ping from another host), if I do something like
"ping 8.8.8.8" on the notebook itself, it becomes reachable from the
  other host again.

Downloads in general are very slow if they work at all.

WLAN (AX210) seems to work fine, wired network using a USB-network adapter
works fine, too.

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1927925] Re: Massive network problems with I219-V on Thinkpad T14 Gen2 (e1000e)

2021-08-16 Thread Shengyao Xue
@Rex, we have already tried the method of:
 echo on > /sys/bus/pci/devices/\:00\:16.0/power/control

It can fix this issue, same to comments #77 and #78.

Massive network problems with I219-V on Thinkpad T14 Gen2 (e1000e)

Status in OEM Priority Project:
  Confirmed
Status in linux package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

@Roland, could you please test the workaround in this bug:
https://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=213651

by change the status of the MEI device power control status.

$ lspci -vvnns 16 // config 16 is the number of MEI device

$ echo on | sudo tee /sys/bus/pci/devices/\:00\:16.0/power/control

WLAN (AX210) seems to work fine, wired network using a USB-network adapter
works fine, too.

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1927925] Re: Massive network problems with I219-V on Thinkpad T14 Gen2 (e1000e)

2021-06-01 Thread Shengyao Xue
@Roland, I tested on a T14 Gen2 laptop and a T15 Gen2 (share the same
i219-v card to T14), cannot reproduce this issue so far.

the logs you attached seems based on Ubuntu 21.04 with 5.11.0-16 kernel,
since this laptop certified with Ubuntu 20.04 with 5.10.0-10xx-oem
kernel, could you pls attached those logs after the test in comment
#29(Ubuntu 20.04 plus 5.10.0-1026-oem)? thanks.

Massive network problems with I219-V on Thinkpad T14 Gen2 (e1000e)

Status in OEM Priority Project:

Status in linux package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
  [Impact]
On Cmedia Audio, unusable SPDIF can be selected as output from PulseAudio.

  [Fix]
Disable IEC958 (SPDIF) through ALSA UCM.

  [Test]
With the UCM applied, `pactl` and audio panel in gnome-control-center no
longer have SPDIF option.

  [Where problems will occur]
"Cmedia Audio" is the sound card name of this usb audio dongle, and this
string is got from usb string descriptor, that is to say the "Cmedia Audio" is
hard-coded in the firmware of that usb dongle.
Not all Cmedia usb audio dongle use "Cmedia Audio", most of the dongles don't
set string descriptor, then the audio driver sets a generic name "USB Audio
Device" for them, if a dongle has string descriptor, it may have different
string like "C-Media USB Headphone Set", and all dongles I met before don't
have SPDIF interface.
So If this SRU could introduce regression, it will happen on a Cmedia usb
audio dongle which also hard-codes the "Cmedia Audio" in the string descriptor
and it has SPDIF interface on it, after this SRU, users couldn't find the SPDIF
playback device from the gnome-sound-setting. But this regression chance is
very low since it is very rare a cmedia usb audio dongle uses "Cmedia Audio" in
the string descriptor and it is very rare a usb audio dongle has SPDIF
interface. So far we haven't met such a cmedia usb audio dongle.

Bug description:
This is the justification for focal:

This patchset will introduce a big change on hda_jack and hda_hdmi,
So I sent the patcheset to oem-b 4 months ago. After 4 months of running
oem-b kernel, there is no any regression reported on this patchset,
now I am backporting the patchset to our focal kernel since our oem
project is waiting for the patchset to be landed to ubuntu 5.4 kernel
  ASAP.

This patchset are already merged to mainline kernel 5.5-rc and 5.6-rc,
so there is no need to send the patchset to oem-5.6 or groovy kernel.

  [Impact]
On some LENOVO I+N machines, when setting the graphic mode to discrete,
The dp/hdmi audio on the Docking Gen2 can't work with this machine +
LENOVO Docking Gen2, users can't find the hdmi audio entry in the
  gnome-sound-setting.

  [Fix]
Nvidia developer submit the mst audio support to 5.5-rcN and 5.6-RC1,
those patches could fix this issue.

  [Test Case]
set the machien to discrete, plug the dock gen2 to it, then boot, after
booting, plug hdmi or dp to dock gen2, the hdmi or dp audio works.

test other machines without Nvidia graphic or without gen2, their hdmi/dp
audio still work, and check other output/input devices like headphone,
microphone, they all worked as well as before.

  [Regression Risk]
one regression possibility is the audio jacks (including analogue and hdmi)
can't work anymore, that means after users plug a headphone, headset, hdmi
monitor or microphone to the audio jacks or hdmi connectors, the audio
driver can't detect the plugging event.

But regression's possibility is very low:
   - this patchset was already applied to oem-b kernel for 4 months, and
oem projects didn't report any regression on the patchset
   - I tested the testing focal kernel with this patchset on many machines,
includes a dell hda audio machine, a dell dmic machine, a Lenovo I+N
hda audio machine, a lenovo I+N dmic machine, a lenovo I hda audio
machine, a lenovo amd hda audio machine. The audio on them all worked
     as well as before.

This is the justification for oem-b

Drop the B, so far only need to merge this patchset to OEM-B first,
After the patchset is widely verified with oem-b kernel, I send the
patchset to B and F then.

This patchset will add support of mst audio for nvidia hdmi/dp, this
patchset changes lots of common code on hda_jack and hdmi codec, so it
is not easy to say it is 100% safe for other machines, but our oem
project needs this patchset to be backported to ubuntu kernel, because
the tight sechdule of oem project, we backport this patchset to B and
OEM-B first, if the hdmi audio works well for a period of time after
this patchset is merged, I will backport this patchset to focal, maybe
  eoan as well.

  [Impact]
On some LENOVO I+N machines, when setting the graphic mode to discrete,
The dp/hdmi audio on the Docking Gen2 can't work with this machine +
  LENOVO Docking Gen2

booting, plug hdmi or dp to dock gen2, the hdmi or dp audio works.

test other machines without Nvidia graphic or without gen2, their hdmi/dp
  audio still work.

  [Regression Risk]
Low, those patches come from mainline kernel, I have tested those patches
on the machiens with or without nvidia hdmi, and on the machines with or
without
docks, all worked well as before.

On the LENOVO AMD Renoir machines, there is a digital mic directly
connected to the APU instead of the codec, so there are two separate
sound cards in the system, one is for analogue codec driven by hda

  The current audio stack (pulseaudio + alsa-ucm-conf + alsa-lib) doesn't

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1845677] Re: volume control doesn't work (it's just on/off) on Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Carbon 7th gen

2019-10-28 Thread Shengyao Xue
the package oem-dmic-sof-lp1825294 contains the UCM config files for
this audio device, right now, this PPA is the best and easy way to use
it. In future, we may add this UCM to a package in the official Ubuntu
archive, but no clear plan yet.

speakers, the volume is either off or on, there's no gradation in
volume when I move the slider up or down.

If I enable Over-Amplification than there's gradation in volume when I
turn the volume up past 100%, but not for 0-100%.

This problem does not occur with a headset plugged into the 3.5mm
  jack.

so, in the 3rd testing, the IP still get from Dock's address e0:4f:43:95:97:fa,
it seems the Mac Pass through did not work.

Because this issue can only reproduce with 4.18 kernel, which was

  kernel.

Status in linux package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
Power off/reboot hang on a Lenovo ThinkPad T495s kernel with 4.18
  kernel.

I installed Ubuntu 18.04.2 on a Lenovo ThinkPad T495s, with kernel
  4.18.0-15.

After installation, the system will hang after power off/reboot.

And I change the "Memory Card Slot" to Disabled in BIOS, the power
off/reboot will be OK with 4.18 kernel.

And then I changed the BIOS setting back to "Enable", then updated to
5.0.0-23 kernel, this issue will be fixed.

New Intel CyclonePeak Wifi cards require new firmware to enable.

  [Fix]
To update the firmware we want only, backport the following 2 commits from
iwlwifi tree for-upstream branch[1], and remove all 9000 series related
firmwares.
95a93535 iwlwifi: update -46 firmwares for 22260 and 9000 series
68040ceb iwlwifi: add firmware for 22260 and update 9000 series -46
firmwares

  1. git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/iwlwifi/linux-
  firmware.git

  [Test Case]
Verified on AX200NGW & 22560NGW chips & Killer 1653 card, wifi works well.

  [Regression Risk]
Low. This firmware is for new cards and new ABI, it won't affect current
Intel wifi cards, and won't take effect on Bionic(4.15) kernel. Only iwlwifi
DKMS driver or oem-osp1 kernel loads this firmware.

There are a number of troubling Unknown unclaimed register messages that
get put to dmesg with default log level on haswell machines. Some of these are
erroneous, for example indicative of untidy bios.

This bug is basically a tracker bug for
  https://bugs.freedesktop.org/58897

first round of patches is here:

  http://lists.freedesktop.org/archives/intel-
  gfx/2013-February/thread.html#24866

..but instead of backporting those it makes more sense to just silence
the error messages, since they are harmless.

  [Test case]
just use the machine for a while, these messages appear for instance when
suspending/resuming when the VT is shown for a while

  [Regression potential]
none really, it just changes the severity of the messages so that they are
not shown by default
