2020-06-01 Thread Vipin Singh Negi
Public bug reported:

Hey there!

I am encountering a bug in Bluetooth menu in drop down menu at top right
corner.

Whenever i turn off my Bluetooth there is no option to turn on there. It
shows two option turn off and Bluetooth setting. After I open setting
and try to turn it on from there it doesn't turn on.

I need to restart the system to make it work.
Please fix this issue.

Thank You

when i enable in /etc/sysctl.conf it works . i append below value in
sysctl.conf

  echo "kernel.sysrq = 1" >> /etc/sysctl.conf

I think this is should be enable by default in ubuntu 18.10 as
earlier ubuntu distro it has , not sure why it got removed as kdump
  mechanism require this .

We recently re-created this bug on our new system "cressg2" which is using a
different SAN on kernel -36.
My Ubuntu 16.04.1 guest, cressg2, are running the IO and other stress test,
and it is hitting "xfs_log_force: error -5 returned" problem after it runs the
tests for 15 hours. It is using our lab storage (SVC SAN storage configuation
with access to DS8000 Volume) and switch, compare to tinyg3, so it is using
different storage and fabric switch.

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1221524] Re: bluetoothd crashed with SIGSEGV in g_main_context_dispatch

2017-05-03 Thread Vipin
Ughh, I totally forgot about this one...
I didn't get a chance to test this on a newer Ubuntu version. Unfortunately I
don't have a Ubuntu box in vicinity to try this either. Please close this and
I'm hoping that bluetoothd is working just fine in the newer version.
Thanks.

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1667599] Re: CAPI:Ubuntu: Kernel panic while rebooting

2017-02-27 Thread Vipin K Parashar
I think the issue is caused by pcieport_drv by which the MSI is enabled
on 0021:02:01.0. Behind the PLX downstream port, there is surprise
hotpluggable slot. When pnv-php.ko is loaded, it tries to enable MSI and
the backtrace is thrown this time. Two things can be done to avoid this
awkward situation:

(1) Prohibit pcieport_drv. It does nothing on PowerNV platform. pnv-php.ko
doesn't depend on any functionalities exported by it.
(2) I will add some code in pnv-php.ko to skip enabling MSIx/MSI if the PLX
downstream port has associated driver. With it, we won't see the backtrace
hopefully. However, the surprise hotplug functionality is lost.

  ---Problem Description---
I am experiencing a problem with KVM on Power with a symptom of "KVM can't
copy data" message being spammed to kern.log at about 10 messages a second.
Apart from original problem that triggers the error, the printk is a problem on
its own. System might run out of space for logs, and would have high CPU load
caused by journald.

This bug is to address an absence of rate limiter on printk at

https://github.com/torvalds/linux/blob/f64e8084c94bb0449177364856d8117e2f14c4c0/arch/powerpc/kvm/book3s_64_mmu.c#L268

Maybe wrapping the printk in printk_ratelimit() is all that is
  required?

  if(printk_ratelimit()){
 printk("KVM can't copy");
  }

  ---Debugger---
  A debugger is not configured

  ---Steps to Reproduce---
   1. Deploy OpenStack with devstack
  2. Run simultaneously between 4 and 6 instances of a script that
  - boots a VM (openstack server create)
  - immediately creates the backup of the VM (openstack server backup
create)

This is not a very good way to reproduce it. I am still unable to
reproduce the problem just by using libvirt and qemu.

Fix for this is submitted to PowerPC mailing list
and is available at below location:

  https://patchwork.ozlabs.org/patch/728831/

  It reads:

"KVM: PPC: Book3S: Ratelimit copy data failure error messages"

make sure that for every deb entry in /etc/apt/sources.list you have a
matching deb-src entry. The rest of the line must be identical.

something like deb-src http://in.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu xenial main.
enable deb-src in /etc/apt/sources.list [removing the comments will help
to enable it]

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1433906] Re: Acer, Inc ID 5986:055a is useless after 14.04.2 installed.

2016-11-22 Thread vipin ms
For those who are waiting for patch, here is the step to temporarily
load the module.

---
# Download kernel sources
mkdir ~/debian/src -p
cd ~/debian/src
apt-get source linux-image-$(uname -r)
cd linux-lts-xenial-4.4.0/ << it can be any kernel.
wget https://launchpadlibrarian.net/230434847/uvc.patch
patch -p1 < uvc.patch
cd drivers/media/usb/uvc/
make -C /lib/modules/$(uname -r)/build M=$(pwd) modules

The above step will create a file named uvcvideo.ko in
"drivers/media/usb/uvc/" directory. Simply copy and load the module to
fix the cam issue.

check your running kernel.

$ uname -r
4.4.0-42-generic

copy module

sudo cp uvcvideo.ko
/lib/modules/4.4.0-42-generic/kernel/drivers/media/usb/uvc/ -v

unload old module and load new one:

sudo rmmod uvcvideo; sudo modprobe uvcvideo

Done. Check your cam now.

Thanks gmicsko for sharing the workaround.

2016-10-21 Thread vipin ms
Joseph,

You are an amazing man, for the first time in last 6 month I'm able to
use my webcam. It's working like anything.

[ 12.636077] uvcvideo: Found UVC 1.00 device Integrated Camera (5986:055a)
[ 12.638827] usbcore: registered new interface driver uvcvideo

I can double confirm its working in 16.04 64bit. You are a life saver,
much appreciated the quick response.

Thank you very much :)

[FEAT Ubuntu 15.10]: EPOW, DPO support for PowerNV platform

Status in linux package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
This feature adds support for FSP EPOW (Early Power Off Warning) and DPO
(Delayed Power Off) events for PowerNV platform. Small description of these
events follows as below:
On FSP based POWER systems EPOW events are generated to notify about
various critical system conditions that need system shutdown. Few examples of
these conditions are high ambient temperature or system running on UPS power
with low UPS battery. DPO event is generated in response to admin initiated
system shutdown request.

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1239578] Re: No wireless support for Realtek RTL8192EE [10ec:818b]

2014-11-18 Thread Vipin
After some days of using Utopic on my L440, I'm able to use wifi even for
longer duration (~3 hours). The connection was okay-ish mostly (ping showed
~25% packet loss). Later, it failed to do a 'git push', that's when I switched
to wired connection. :)
But I reckon that it has come a long way.. from not detecting the wifi card at
all to somewhat 'surf-able' connection. Hoping that it'll be more stable soon.
A BIG thanks to everyone who have contributed !!

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1239578] Re: No wireless support for Realtek RTL8192EE [10ec:818b]

2014-11-06 Thread Vipin
Yesterday I too upgraded to Utopic (so now at 3.16.0-24) from Ubuntu Gnome
14.04. And for the first time, my L440 could scan and connect to wifi networks.
Though connection was successful in the first try, but there was no data
transfer, I could not ping any IP address. 'ifconfig' did show the correct IP
address assigned to wlan0.
Let me know how can I help with debugging this. Thanks.

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1239578] Re: No wireless support for Realtek RTL8192EE [10ec:818b]

2014-03-18 Thread Vipin
Guys,
Just sharing my experience with this issue.
I've got Lenovo Thinkpad L440 recently which has this realtek network device.
Installed 12.04 LTS and all I could see was no network device available. So
no wired wireless connection could be made. Then I read various solutions
over web and then found this bug filed.
Later I tried installing 3.14-rc7 and rebooted. Now my wired connection (ethX)
is up but still no wireless support. Now I see only one UNCLAIMED (earlier
there were 2) h/w in 'lshw' output.
$ sudo lshw -C network -numeric

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 896922] Re: Lenovo L520 - psmouse.c: touchpad at isa0060/serio4/input0 lost sync and stops working for seconds

2013-12-17 Thread Vipin
All,
I'm facing the same problem since yesterday. The trackpoint (I don't use
touchpad) just freezes on my Thinkpad T420 running 12.04 and
3.2.0-57-generic-pae kernel.
After reading the entire thread, I also tried Gero's suggestion but it didn't
work for me.
For the first time (when trackpoint froze yesterday) i got the similar errors
in dmesg and syslog like:
Dec 17 13:51:55 vipin-thinkpad-t420 kernel: [13612.139398] psmouse serio1:
TouchPad at isa0060/serio1/input0 lost sync at byte 1
But today, the trackpoint froze for 3-4 times and such errors are not seen in
logs.
I also noticed that this happens when I'm typing and want to use trackpoint
immediately after that.
Strangely, I'm using this laptop (with same OS) since last 1+ year, this
problem started to happen since yesterday only. And now it is happening
everytime in only 5-10 mins after reboot.
Just wanted to give an update on my problem, so anyone working on this problem
currently?
