[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1163720] Re: Brightness control broken on XPS13 with 3.8.0-16 and 3.8.0-22

2013-10-01 Thread dinky
@Bib  @autra

Thanks for your thoughts - it's good to keep things in perspective. My
point is more that rapid adoption of Ubuntu would be achieved faster if
these recurring 'bugs' with flagship hardware could be sorted out. That
said, I'm a fairly happy Ubuntu user, and have been using it since 8.10.
Not much chance of that changing anytime soon, but would be good for
this recurring bug to get sorted. My workaround has been to stick with
an earlier kernel. Cheers. D

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1163720] Re: Brightness control broken on XPS13 with 3.8.0-16 and 3.8.0-22

2013-09-30 Thread dinky
I don't understand why this is such an ongoing problem - isn't the XPS
13 ultrabook supposed to be the developer laptop? I thought the whole
point was to provide a seamless experience for developers - and others -
who want a Ubuntu ultrabook that's fully supported and 'just works'.
What's going on here?

I've stayed with the 3.8.0-27 kernel for the past few updates, because
it's working. Why are updates being pushed out that break the brightness
functionality to begin with? If an updated kernel doesn't work properly
with Ubuntu's 'flagship' laptop, it should never be pushed out in the
first place.
