  Ryzen 1800X freeze - rcu_sched detected stalls on CPUs/tasks

Status in Linux:
  Expired
Status in linux package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
  Hi,

We aregetting various kernel crash on a pretty new config.
We're using Ryzen 1800X CPU with X370 Gaming Pro Carbon MB (7A32V1) using
latest BIOS available (1.52)

We are running Ubuntu 17.04 (amd64), we've tried different kernel version,
native one and releases from http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/ too.
  Tested kernel version:

  native 17.04 kernel
  4.10.15

Issues are the same, we're getting random freeze on the machine.

Here is kern.log entry when happening :

Depending on the kernel version, we've got NMI watchdog errors related to CPU
stuck (mentioning the CPU core id, which is random).
Crash is happening randomly, but in general after some hours (3-4h).

Now, we've installed kernel 4.11.0-041100-generic #201705041534 this morning
and waiting for crash...
For now, the machine is not "used", at least, it's not CPU stressed...

  Thanks

  PROPOSED SOLUTION
I got in contact with laurent.pinch...@ideasonboard.com and with
riba...@chromium.org , and subscribed to https://www.linuxtv.org/lists. And
me...@vger.kernel.org mailinglist.

Laurent proposed me a fix and I modified the 5,15 uvc_driver.c
version, and loaded it on github

  https://github.com/Giuliano69/uvc_driver-for-Quanta-HD-User-
  Facing-0x0408-0x4035-/blob/main/uvc_driver.c

I offered to test the fix, so I tried to compile the module with the
  new source.

  COMPILING PROBLEMS
I’m running **Ubuntu 22.04.1 LTS, with kernel
  giuliano@Astra2A:/usr/src$ cat /proc/version_signature
  Ubuntu 5.15.0-56.62-generic 5.15.64

BUT the linux-source that I found installed seems to be different

I expanded the tar file, configured the IDE and compiled without error any
errors…
I manually copied the uvcvideo.ko in
  /lib/modules/5.15.0-56-
  sudo cp…...

then tryed to intall the new uvcvideo.ko module
sudo rmmod uvcvideo && sudo modprobe uvcvideo

  BUT… IT FAILS
giuliano@Astra2A:~$ sudo rmmod uvcvideo && sudo modprobe uvcvideo
modprobe: ERROR: could not insert 'uvcvideo': Exec format error

  and dmesg shows
[25961.151982] usbcore: registered new interface driver uvcvideo
[26323.125534] usbcore: deregistering interface driver uvcvideo

These are the TWO modinfo from the old and new uvcvideo modules

OLD module: vermagic: 5.15.0-56-generic SMP mod_unload modversions
NEW module: vermagic: 5.15.64 SMP mod_unload modversions

  -kindly ASK

HOW can FORCE the uvcdriver.c to match mi kernel version ?
Have I got OTHER ways to make the kernel module I’m compiling, match my
running system ?

I would like to test the module so to confirm the patch and let it
  enter the kernel main stream...

  PS
btw…. to allow Eclipse to compile the kernel, I had to pass this commands
  scripts/config --disable CONFIG_SYSTEM_REVOCATION_KEYS
  scripts/config --disable SYSTEM_REVOCATION_KEYS
  scripts/config --disable SYSTEM_TRUSTED_KEYS

hope that this does not affect the module layout & checking

  UVC Quanta 0408:4035 camera PROBLEM

Status in linux package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
I bought a Acer Nitro 5 AN517-55 with Quanta ACER HD User Facing',
  USB 0408:4035.

The camera is reported to have problems by many users:
  https://linux-hardware.org/?id=usb:0408-4035

https://unix.stackexchange.com/questions/723504/integrated-camera-not-detected-working-on-acer-nitro-5-an515-58

  PROPOSED SOLUTION
I got in contact with laurent.pinch...@ideasonboard.com and with
riba...@chromium.org , and subscribed to https://www.linuxtv.org/lists. And
me...@vger.kernel.org mailinglist.

Laurent proposed me a fix and I modified the 5,15 uvc_driver.c
version, and loaded it on github

  https://github.com/Giuliano69/uvc_driver-for-Quanta-HD-User-
  Facing-0x0408-0x4035-/blob/main/uvc_driver.c

I offered to test the fix, so I tried to compile the module with the
  new source.

  COMPILING PROBLEMS
I’m running **Ubuntu 22.04.1 LTS, with kernel
  giuliano@Astra2A:/usr/src$ cat /proc/version_signature
  Ubuntu 5.15.0-56.62-generic 5.15.64

BUT the linux-source that I found installed seems to be different
  tgiuliano@Astra2A:/usr/src$ ls -al linux-so*
  lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 47 nov 22 16:08 linux-source-5.15.0.tar.bz2 ->
linux-source-5.15.0/linux-source-5.15.0.tar.bz2

I expanded the tar file, configured the IDE and compiled without error any
errors…
I manually copied the uvcvideo.ko in
  /lib/modules/5.15.0-56-
  sudo cp…...

then tryed to intall the new uvcvideo.ko module
sudo rmmod uvcvideo && sudo modprobe uvcvideo

  BUT… IT FAILS
giuliano@Astra2A:~$ sudo rmmod uvcvideo && sudo modprobe uvcvideo
modprobe: ERROR: could not insert 'uvcvideo': Exec format error

  and dmesg shows
[25961.151982] usbcore: registered new interface driver uvcvideo
[26323.125534] usbcore: deregistering interface driver uvcvideo
[26323.189294] uvcvideo: disagrees about version of symbol module_layout

These are the TWO modinfo from the old and new uvcvideo modules
  https://pastebin.com/tSj8Exm6
  Basically
OLD module: vermagic: 5.15.0-56-generic SMP mod_unload modversions
NEW module: vermagic: 5.15.64 SMP mod_unload modversions

  -kindly ASK

HOW can FORCE the uvcdriver.c to match mi kernel version ?
Have I got OTHER ways to make the kernel module I’m compiling, match my
running system ?

I would like to test the module so to confirm the patch and let it
  enter the kernel main stream...

  PS
btw…. to allow Eclipse to compile the kernel, I had to pass this commands
  scripts/config --disable CONFIG_SYSTEM_REVOCATION_KEYS
  scripts/config --disable SYSTEM_REVOCATION_KEYS
  scripts/config --disable SYSTEM_TRUSTED_KEYS

hope that this does not affect the module layout & checking

Title:
  UVC Quanta 0408:4035 camera PROBLEM

Status in linux package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
I bought a Acer Nitro 5 AN517-55 with Quanta ACER HD User Facing',
  USB 0408:4035.

The camera is reported to have problems by many users:
  https://linux-hardware.org/?id=usb:0408-4035
The uvc camera Quanta 0408:4035 does not work with ubuntu 22,04. the camera
is “recongized” but fails installation.

My console commands report similar info to other users:

https://unix.stackexchange.com/questions/723504/integrated-camera-not-detected-working-on-acer-nitro-5-an515-58

  PROPOSED SOLUTION
I got in contact with laurent.pinch...@ideasonboard.com and with
riba...@chromium.org , and subscribed to https://www.linuxtv.org/lists. And
me...@vger.kernel.org mailinglist.

Laurent proposed me a fix and I modified the 5,15 uvc_driver.c
version, and loaded it on github

  https://github.com/Giuliano69/uvc_driver-for-Quanta-HD-User-
  Facing-0x0408-0x4035-/blob/main/uvc_driver.c

I offered to test the fix, so I tried to compile the module with the
  new source.

  COMPILING PROBLEMS
I’m running **Ubuntu 22.04.1 LTS, with kernel
  giuliano@Astra2A:/usr/src$ cat /proc/version_signature
  Ubuntu 5.15.0-56.62-generic 5.15.64

BUT the linux-source that I found installed seems to be different
  tgiuliano@Astra2A:/usr/src$ ls -al linux-so*
  lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 47 nov 22 16:08 linux-source-5.15.0.tar.bz2 ->
linux-source-5.15.0/linux-source-5.15.0.tar.bz2

I expanded the tar file, configured the IDE and compiled without error any
errors…
I manually copied the uvcvideo.ko in
  /lib/modules/5.15.0-56-
  sudo cp…...

then tryed to intall the new uvcvideo.ko module
sudo rmmod uvcvideo && sudo modprobe uvcvideo

  BUT… IT FAILS
giuliano@Astra2A:~$ sudo rmmod uvcvideo && sudo modprobe uvcvideo
modprobe: ERROR: could not insert 'uvcvideo': Exec format error

  and dmesg shows
[25961.151982] usbcore: registered new interface driver uvcvideo
[26323.125534] usbcore: deregistering interface driver uvcvideo
[26323.189294] uvcvideo: disagrees about version of symbol module_layout

These are the TWO modinfo from the old and new uvcvideo modules
  https://pastebin.com/tSj8Exm6
  Basically
OLD module: vermagic: 5.15.0-56-generic SMP mod_unload modversions
NEW module: vermagic: 5.15.64 SMP mod_unload modversions

  -kindly ASK

HOW can FORCE the uvcdriver.c to match mi kernel version ?
Have I got OTHER ways to make the kernel module I’m compiling, match my
running system ?

I would like to test the module so to confirm the patch and let it
  enter the kernel main stream...

  BR
  Giuliano

btw…. to allow Eclipse to compile the kernel, I had to pass this commands

Re: [Kernel-packages] [Bug 1839693] Re: p54usb module in linux-modules-extra-5.0.0-23-generic does not work

2019-08-29 Thread Dee Raj
Hi there, I hope all is well. I wanted to let you know that something odd keeps
happening now with the updated packages you sent me.
After about one week of use, the USB card stopped working. I thought maybe I
had run some software update and overwrite your files. So, I ran the command
you gave me ("sudo dpkg -i *.deb") and restored the packages you sent.
After another week, the same thing happened again - this time I am positive
that I did not run any software updates and yet the USB card once again stopped
working. I again ran "sudo dpkg -i *.deb" and restored your files and rebooted.
It started working same as normal.
So, I decided to write to you and let you know this. I have no idea why it's
happening, but two times cannot be a fluke.

Thanks, D E K E R

2018-06-05 Thread Keerthi Raj
I am using kernel 4.4.0-127-lowlatency (Ubuntu 14.04) and I have this
bug. When we run an UVC camera, the host controller dies randomly after
some point. The symptoms are exactly as described by other users above.

I would like to know which kernels this bug affects and where a patch
has been applied.

The link below describes a fix but I couldn't figure out which kernel it has
been applied to. May I know which kernel fixes it?
https://www.spinics.net/lists/linux-usb/msg122678.html

Hardware:
Asus X99-E-10G WS Motherboard
Intel Xeon E5-2687W v4 3.0 GHz

I am facing similar issue in Kubuntu 18.04. I recently upgraded from

connect after suspend.

I reported in KDE, they asked to raise against Bluez.

My temporary fix is restarting the bluetooth service,

sudo service bluetooth restart

the device either hybernates or ever goes to screen saver sleep.

I have to remove the dive and re-add it each time (which works well).

There are other issues with the bluetooth stack as well in that I have
not found any way to use bluetooth tethering to my mobile which again
worked well and was easy to configure in 13.04

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1734539] [NEW] package linux-headers-4.13.0-17 (not installed) failed to install/upgrade: unable to sync file '/var/lib/dpkg/tmp.ci//md5sums': Input/output error

2017-11-26 Thread Navin raj
Public bug reported:

I am using ubuntu 17.10 and new to ubuntu and linux. I used this command
"apt-cache policy pkgname" and the result is "unable to locate package
pkgname". I use a package called brightness controller because my
monitor is Samsung Syncmaster SA10 and it doesn't have any buttons to
control brightness. Now, that package is not reducing the brightness.
Sometimes, when i open firefox, screen displays 60deg pink and white
lines and hangs and then, i'll restrat my pc by pressing the restart
button on CPU. This bug reporting screen is automatically opened, when i
was updating the package via package manager.

Please see: https://github.com/rickysarraf/laptop-mode-tools/wiki/FAQ

Especially:

My USB Mouse / Keyboard stops working after seconds of inactivity

Many devices advertise power savings but misbehave when power savings
is triggered. Laptop Mode Tools, by default, enabled power savings for
all devices.

In newer version of Laptop Mode Tools (1.69 and above), we have revised
the default list of blacklisted devices. USB Mice, USB Keyboards and
USB Storage are obvious device types.

If you have devices, that mis-behave when running on battery, you can
blacklist them.

For details on blacklisting the device, please refer to the
configuration details in /etc/laptop-mode/conf.d/runtime-pm.conf

Title:
Power Management: USB mouse and keyboard laggy and loosing events

Status in laptop-mode-tools package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed
Status in linux package in Ubuntu:
  Invalid

Bug description:
This issue is a regression after update to 16.04 (coming from 14.04).
To my knowledge, I was using TLP together with 14.04, which got
removed during the upgrade in favour of upower.

Two devices behave unexpected reproducably after a fresh reboot:

Bus 002 Device 004: ID 046a:0023 Cherry GmbH CyMotion Master Linux Keyboard
G230
Bus 002 Device 003: ID 046d:c24c Logitech, Inc. G400s Optical Mouse

It looks like a power management related issue. By default,
  - USB mouse pointer is invisible and mouse looses any event unless I press a
mouse button (which also is executed in a dangerous manner at the last position
of the invisible pointer)
  - USB keyboard is inactive unless I press a few keys. These first characters
get lost in the output
  - This happens directly after reboot (e.g. first characters of password get
lost, mouse is invisible).
  - After login, it still happens: After a few seconds of inactivity, mouse and
keyboard are non-responsive again.
  - In addition, I also experience lost events without any delay from time to
time
  - In addition, scrolling with the mouse is laggy in particular

Most of these problems are gone as soon as I disable powersave in
  powertop for mouse and keyboard:

Bad Automatische Bereitschaft für USB-Gerät G400s Optical Gaming Mouse
[Logitech]
Bad Automatische Bereitschaft für unbekanntes USB-Gerät 2-1.2 [046a:0023]

The only remaining problem is laggy scrolling and sometimes loosing
events like keyboard presses, but this could still be another issue.

The powertop status of other USB devices does not have an effect on
this workaround. However, the workaround via powertop is lost after
  next reboot.

It also has no effect when changing USB-Ports or USB-Controllers. I tried
  - built-in USB 2.0 Ports of my DELL Latitude E5510 (1d6b:0002)
  - replicated USB 2.0 ports of my docking station PR02X (1d6b:0002)
  - PCMCIA USB 3.0 Express card (1d6b:0003)

Accordingly, this issue is not related to particular USB
controllers/hubs. Plus, as two non-related USB hardware devices are
concerned, this issue also might not be related to particular USB
devices, bat rather affect many USB devices.

I don't experience any problems when using the built-in keyboard of
  the DELL Latitude E5510.

Yes. I noticed that when I looked at your configuration. I have the same
card. And I think you are on the same bios too.

The only exception is the SSD. I'm still to find a reasonably priced SSD
in my locality.

PS: Like I've reported before, I have a pretty good suspend/resume rate.
I did dive deeper into what has been happening during suspend. The SATA
exceptions (I'm sure you must have seen that on your box) happen very
frequently during suspend image write (I use s2both). Also the intel
driver throws in many errors.

But after the fix (that was added in 3.19.3), the intel error is not
fatal anymore.

The errors I'm talking are (there may be more I've missed to scan and copy):

And I think the SATA errors and the relink to 3 Gbps is okay. The reason
being, afaik, it is a rev 3 device connected to the rev 2 port. I still
need to open up my laptop and look into more specifics.

That is odd. The same works for me on 3.19.3 (stock kernel).

Can you try blacklisting the following ? That's the only other change
that I hadn't mentioned you.

rrs@learner:~$ cat /etc/modprobe.d/intel-mei-blacklist.conf

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1416847] Re: kerneloops on suspend from resume

2015-03-25 Thread Ritesh Raj Sarraf
I have the same hardware and I share the same problem. In fact, the
kernel in use, is shared by both Ubuntu and Debian. I am on the Debian
Jessie kernel.

Like the OP, I tried with 3.19.2, but the problem exists. He was lucky
to have survived 2 weeks. I can't survive more than 48 hrs.

While the Yoga 2 13 is in no way shipped by Lenovo, their acpi tables do

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1419439] Re: Screen freeze when watching video in VLC

2015-02-09 Thread Raj Amal
I too faced the same issue now in my Lenovo Y510p running Ubuntu 14.10 64bit.
No keys work only I can hear the audio. I force shutdown to get back my laptop
to work.

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 763457] Re: please provide opencl-icd virtual package

2013-08-09 Thread Arvind S Raj
Could this be backported to 12.04 since the release will be supported
for at least 4 more years?

Bug description:
The package python-pyopencl depends on nvidia-current, which makes it
impossible to correctly use on AMD / ATI systems.

In debbugs #628702 debian started using a virtual package opencl-icd
instead of depending directly on particular graphics driver / opencl
  implementation.

  We should follow the same.

  TODO

  * syn pyopencl
  * nvidia-graphics-drivers or nvidia-common (not sure) to provide opencl-icd
  * fglrx-installer to provide opencl-icd
