After upgrade from 16.04 to 18.04, I cannot store the manual refresh rate any
longer.
When I go to the display settings, advanced, and store e.g. 25,00 Hz, 'Apply',
go elsewhere and back to advanced display settings, it has fallen back to
'Auto'.

Done. I printed some simple file to the OKI-printer, waited a few minutes while
the printer was "Processing ...", unteil Cancel-ed the job on the printer.
The log file is attached, hoping it helps.

My dual-boot recognizes and switches to the second monitor under W10, it seems
that kubuntu 18.04 does not recognize that monitor, and does not offer to use
it.

Thanks so far, Daniel! - I still encounter the strange boot problems on
that dock, but sometimes it works; in W10 as well as in kubuntu.
However, the non-detection of the monitor is 100%. I tried another
cable, even a proper Samsung monitor (contrary to the digital TV as

Okay, one small step further: I checked in the BIOS, and it offers the
following three as primary displays:
ThinkPad LCD
Digital on ThinkPad
Display on Dock
Previously I used to see
