[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1916570] Re: BlueZ 5.56 release

2021-02-23 Thread Amr Ibrahim
Just a comment on the packaging: the Ubuntu packaging is a bit old: it
still build-depends on debhelper (>= 9), autotools-dev and libdbus-
glib-1-dev (which is deprecated and the Debian package replaced it with
libdbus-1-dev (>= 1.6)), and it is at Standards-Version: 3.9.6, which is
ancient by now.

I suggest merging with Debian first then updating to 5.56 to benefit
from the up-to-date best practices in Debian packaging.

Bug description:
Wireless-regdb is outdated in trusty. Some countries do not have 5 GHz
frequencies at all in the old package.
That causes some problems with connection or instability with 5 GHz.

For Russia iw reg get shows

   (5735 - 5835 @ 20), (N/A, 30)

Installation of a newer regdb package fixes it.

With the new package taken from xenial it shows

  country RU:

   (57000 - 66000 @ 2160), (N/A, 40)

  and there is no problem.

This restriction is better than the previous, but the correct
  regulation for Russia is:

   (5735 - 5835 @ 80), (N/A, 30)
   (57000 - 66000 @ 2160), (N/A, 40)

This issue affects recent Intel adapters that do frequent scans, like
  7260.

  [Impact]
These releases provide both bug fixes and new features, and we would like to
make sure all of our users have access to these improvements.

See the changelog entry below for a full list of changes and bugs.

  [Test Case]
The following development and SRU process was followed:
  https://wiki.ubuntu.com/NVidiaUpdates

Certification test suite must pass on a range of hardware:
  https://git.launchpad.net/plainbox-provider-sru/tree/units/sru.pxu

The QA team that executed the tests will be in charge of attaching the
artifacts and console output of the appropriate run to the bug. nVidia
maintainers team members will not mark ‘verification-done’ until this
  has happened.

  [Regression Potential]
In order to mitigate the regression potential, the results of the
aforementioned system level tests are attached to this bug.

+ - don't install deprecated changelog
+

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1803600] Re: Elantech - Touchpad not working after upgrading to 18.10 from 18.04

2019-08-08 Thread Amr Ibrahim
The touchpad of my Lenovo Thinkpad L480 does not work in both Ubuntu
Disco live and Eoan daily image. However, it works fine in Bionic
18.04.3 with the HWE kernel of Disco. So I guess there is a bug in a
different place beside the kernel.

When updating from 18.04 to 18.10 on a ThinkPad L480 the Elantech touchpad
stopped working. This means it is not recognized at all. This problem occured
after the first boot in 18.10

  `dmesg | grep -i elantech` shows the following errors:

I found the following thread which solves the problem temporarly (and reports
the same problem in Arch):
  https://bugs.archlinux.org/task/59714

Running the following command enables it again for the current
  session:

  sudo sh -c 'echo -n "elantech">
  /sys/bus/serio/devices/serio1/protocol'

  dmesg afterwards:

  [ 569.522490] psmouse serio1: elantech: assuming hardware version 4

  Before running the fix:

  $ cat /sys/bus/serio/devices/serio1/protocol
  ETSMBus

  and after:

  $ cat /sys/bus/serio/devices/serio1/protocol
  ETPS/2

After reboot the command has to be run again, of course.

Ubuntu 16.04 wireless networking does not allow WD MyCloud access

Status in linux package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete

Bug description:
Fresh install of Ubuntu 16.04 64-bit with all updates applied.
Hardware: Acer Aspire One 722 with 8ig of RAM and 500Gig SSD. Dual
core AMD C60 not that it matters.

Wireless: Boot, open Files from task bar, click network, I can see
WDMYCLOUD. Click it, enter connection user/password and many seconds
later the "opening" dialog pops up. Eventually, many minutes later,
error dialog pops up saying unable to connect.

Wired: Boot, open Files from task bar, click network, I can see
WDMYCLOUD. Click it, enter connection user/password and 1-2 seconds
later "opening" dialog pops up. Another second or two and I see the
  contents of the drive.

Only change is from wireless to wired. Using same router.

When I choose "Safely remove drive" context menu entry for an external
USB drive within a nautilus window or directly clicking on the desktop
icon, after about 10 seconds the drive is automatically remounted and
a Nautilus window showing the root folder opens.

I have noticed that similar already happened with a very old Ubuntu

2016-09-03 Thread Amr Ibrahim
Public bug reported:

In Xenial, I have installed the propriety wireless driver from Additional
Drivers.
There are no Wi-Fi networks shown in the network indicator, as if the wireless
card does not exist.
This is a regression from Trusty.

Here are some terminal outputs that are specific to the wireless card:

:~$ lspci

Title:
0489:e062 [Sony VAIO SVF1421C5E] Bluetooth adapter does not work with
  Broadcom driver

Status in bcmwl package in Ubuntu:
  Triaged

Bug description:
This laptop has bluetooth 4.0, and it does not connect to a Galaxy
  Trend GT-S7560, Android 4.0.4, kernel 3.0.8-1224927.

The smartphone does not find the laptop, and ubuntu does not find
Galaxy Trend too. I tested with blueman, no chance.

  BIOS version: R0220DA 11/18/2013

  The bluetooth device is this:

ID 0489:e062 Foxconn / Hon Hai
idVendor 0x0489 Foxconn / Hon Hai
    idProduct 0xe062
    bcdDevice1.12
    iManufacturer 1 Broadcom Corp
    iProduct2 BCM43142A0
    iSerial 3 3C77E6D9F288

  07:00.0 Network controller: Broadcom Corporation BCM43142 802.11b/g/n (rev 01)
Subsystem: Foxconn International, Inc. Device e071
   Kernel driver in use: bcma-pci-bridge

  hcitool dev
  Devices:
   hci0 3C:77:E6:D9:F2:88

It seems that firmware was not loaded:

  dmesg | grep Bluetooth

[ 30.385987] Bluetooth: HCI device and connection manager initialized

Someone did a patch to broadcom driver, and it works:
  http://emelramone.host22.com/Linux/BCM43142A0paraOM.html . I did here,
  but it did not work.

I can connect this smartphone in other laptop (Itautec Infoway W7415)
with xubuntu trusty, and it is very easy, both xubuntu and galaxy
  trend find themselves.

Title:
  Bluetooth BCM43142A0 doesn’t work

Status in bluez package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed
Status in linux package in Ubuntu:
  Fix Committed
Status in linux-firmware package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
I’ve installed ubuntu 14.04 and my computer’s builtin bluetooth
(computer is an Asus x550ln) doesn’t work at all. Bluetooth is not
displayed in the menu bar, if I open the bluetooth UI and switch on,
nothing happens and the result of “hcitool dev” is empty.

I have tried to install the windows driver with ndiswrapper, and the
bluetooth device seems to be detected as an usb bluetooth device but
still not working. I then add the device to the bluetooth usb device
and was able to activate bluetooth in the UI but it does not detect
any other devices (I’ve tested with a smartphone).

The driver I have installed can be found in asus page =>
  http://www.asus.com/fr/Notebooks_Ultrabooks/X550LN/HelpDesk_Download/
Select Windows OS, then “bluetooth” section, take the Broadcom driver
  (should be the first one).

If you extract this archive, you will find a file named “bcbtums-
win8x64-brcm.inf” which I installed using the following command:

  ndiswrapper -i bcbtums-win8x64-brcm.inf

Then, the result of “ndiswrapper -l” is:

  bcbtums-win8x64-brcm : driver installed
device (04CA:2006) present

in usb-devices, I find a device which was not present before
installation (I might have activated btusb before on this paste):

  T: Bus=02 Lev=01 Prnt=01 Port=05 Cnt=02 Dev#= 3 Spd=12 MxCh= 0
  D: Ver= 2.00 Cls=ff(vend.) Sub=01 Prot=01 MxPS=64 #Cfgs= 1
  P: Vendor=04ca ProdID=2006 Rev=01.12
  S: Manufacturer=Broadcom Corp
  S: Product=BCM43142A0
  S: SerialNumber=B8EE6593D989
  C: #Ifs= 4 Cfg#= 1 Atr=e0 MxPwr=0mA
  I: If#= 0 Alt= 0 #EPs= 3 Cls=ff(vend.) Sub=01 Prot=01 Driver=btusb
  I: If#= 1 Alt= 0 #EPs= 2 Cls=ff(vend.) Sub=01 Prot=01 Driver=btusb

  I: If#= 3 Alt= 0 #EPs= 0 Cls=fe(app. ) Sub=01 Prot=01 Driver=(none)

  then, “echo "04ca 2006" > /sys/bus/usb/drivers/btusb/new_id”, and I
can switch usb on, but no device will be detected and I’ve found this
  in the dmesg:

  [2200.843126] Bluetooth: hci0 command 0x1003 tx timeout

which looks pretty much like a “bluetooth not working” message which I
  don’t understand in details.

I leave here my full dmesg:

  Bluetooth doesn't find any device

Status in linux package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
I am using an Acer E 15. I am not sure how to find out the
specifications of my bluetooth device. I found nothing with lsusb or
lspci. The only thing i found was that:

  dmesg | grep bluetooth
[ 12.314809] bluetooth hci0: Direct firmware load for
brcm/BCM43142A0-04ca-2009.hcd failed with error -2

Until Ubuntu 14.10 the bluetooth device was not recognized at all.
Since the update to Ubuntu 15.04 i can activate it through Gnome
system settings and make it visible. But it will not be found by any
device and will not find any itself.

  Yours sincerly

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1473531] [NEW] Wi-Fi disconnects frequently or has very slow connection. Only connects to nearby access points or hotspots.

2015-07-10 Thread Amr Ibrahim
Public bug reported:

My laptop is Acer E5-551G-T0KC. Wi-Fi is very unreliable. It disconnects
frequently from eduroam* at university. Sometimes, it can't even
establish a connection to eduroam. It can't connect to my home Wi-Fi,
whereas my old laptop (another open source driver) and my phone connect
fine. I can connect reliably to my mobile phone hotspot, which is nearby
the laptop. Windows 8.1 connects fine.

Any news for packaging this for wily? I think bluez 5 needs broad
testing in 15.10 before 16.04 LTS.
