Title:
System fails to boot stuck on Scanning for btrfs

Status in linux package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
  Ubuntu 15.04 with 3.19.0-15-generic.

  Current status:
System fails to finish booting with Scanning for btrfs. If you wait long
enough you see:
INFO: task exe:208 blocked for more than 120 seconds

INFO: task btrfs-transacti:230 blocked for more than 120 seconds
  (message repeats every 2 minutes)

Ctrl-alt-delete does work to reboot system at this stage.
  Booting with upstart still hangs.
Recovery mode fails to boot as well
  Tried options system.debug-shell (from
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1444070) which got me a
few more details

Story of getting here: Was playing Team Fortress 2 and Internet went down.
Trying to get network-manager to reload caused some issues. Eventually decided
to reboot. Hung at reboot and ended up powering down by switch.

Status in linux package in Ubuntu:

Status in linux package in Debian:
  Fix Released

Bug description:
My btrfs filesystem will not mount almost every boot for a few weeks
now. The only way I can currently fix this is to network boot into
rescue mode to clear the log, would be great to import this into
  vivid.

It appears to be this issue:

https://git.kernel.org/cgit/linux/kernel/git/torvalds/linux.git/commit/?id=9c4f61f01d269815bb7c37be3ede59c5587747c6
  https://btrfs.wiki.kernel.org/index.php/Gotchas

Stable kernel version 3.19.1+ can cause a deadlock at mount time
workaround: boot with older kernel, or run btrfs-zero-log to clear the log
(beware of the consequences)
fix: scheduled for 3.19.5, or apply 9c4f61f01d269815bb7c37.
   also affected: 3.14.35+, 3.18.9+

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1444070] Re: btrfs-transaction hangs

2015-04-24 Thread Andrej Rohaŭ
Managed to reproduce the problem by simply doing an unclean shutdown.

linux-image-3.19.0-15-generic 3.19.0-15.15 - locks up
linux-image-3.19.5-031905-generic 3.19.5-031905.20150424 - booted fine

Before that I managed to clean the filesystem using a mount on Debian
Jessie netboot with an old kernel.
