[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1556623] Re: Sporadicly does not power off after will now halt message
The issue did not occur before 14.04, also the first version of 14.04 were also bug free. [Kernel-packages] [Bug 1492824] Re: Intel NIC ignore sometimes all received messages
After the BIOS update the bug is gone. Thats why I set this bug as invalid. Thanks for the help. ** Changed in: linux (Ubuntu) Status: Incomplete => Invalid -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kernel Packages, which is subscribed to linux in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1492824 Title: Intel NIC ignore sometimes all received messages Status in linux package in Ubuntu: Invalid Bug description: From time to time my home server can not communicate over the LAN. The IP address and gateway is set, but no other PC in the network is reachable. My network consist normally of the router and the server connected over LAN and my notebooks (1 windows, 1 linux) over WLAN. As I am was not sure if this was a bug in my server or the router, I bought a switch with port mirroring. I placed it between my router and server. The first observation was that with this new network structure the bug still occurs. I mirrored the ports connected with my server and router and analyse it with my linux notebook connected to the switch. When trying to ping my router from the server I saw traffic from both devices, but the ping program says always host unreachable. I plugged my notebook into another non-mirrored port and tested if I can access my router. Everything worked fine(Ping, internet). So the bug seems an issue of my server. After more testing and looking up different information over eth0, I realized that my server sends messages but did not receive any. The ifconfig output is attached. The weird thing is that received, dropped messages and overrun are 0, although messages were transmitted to the server. Visible by the blinking leds at the switch and the traffic of the mirrored ports. The loopback interface is working, so ping localhost works as usual. A workaround for the bug is to deactivate the network in the network manager, waiting some seconds and activate it again. After it everything works as it should. An reboot of the server works also. So this is hardly problem of the LAN cables. The wake on lan function is activated for eth0 with the ethtools. The bug also occur when I start the server with a WOL message. The server starts, but you can not connect to it (ping, ssh, ). By the way this is the time when this bug becomes really annoying. If required I can provide a syslog from today with a server start at the morning, where everything works fine, and a start in the afternoon where the server is not reachable. [Kernel-packages] [Bug 1492824] Re: Intel NIC ignore sometimes all received messages
I live with this bug for more than a year and I do not know any kernel version where this bug did not occur. As the bug only occur from time to time I checked how often it trigger with the normal ubuntu kernel. During 20 restarts the bug was triggered 3 times. After installing kernel 4.2.0-040200.201508301530 I restarted my server again 20 times and the bug occur 2 times. As a side note when the bug occur the network indicator need multiple seconds longer to show up after bootup in the notification area. ** Tags added: kernel-bug-exists-upstream ** Changed in: linux (Ubuntu) Status: Incomplete => Confirmed -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kernel Packages, which is subscribed to linux in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1492824 Title: Intel NIC ignore sometimes all received messages Status in linux package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Bug description: From time to time my home server can not communicate over the LAN. As it contain private data I will not post it public. [Kernel-packages] [Bug 1261123] Re: [Lenovo ThinkPad X121e] Trackpoint and buttons sometimes not working
I tried different approaches to update the bios of my x121e. But neither running the exe from lenovo under freeDos, nor the booting the iso image from usb stick worked. The recommended way from lenovo to burn the iso on a CD and use it to boot is not a option for me. The x121e does not have a optical drive and I wont buy a external drive just for updating the bios. A crazy idea is to run the update exe under wine, but the risk to end with a unbootable notebook is too high for me. So I will stay to the current bios version :-/ -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kernel Packages, which is subscribed to linux in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1261123 Title: [Lenovo ThinkPad X121e] Trackpoint and buttons sometimes not working Status in “linux” package in Ubuntu: Incomplete Bug description: After reboot the trackpoint and buttons of the touchpad are not working.
