[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1933771] Re: Bluetooth headset random disconnects AX200

2021-10-02 Thread Cruz Fernandez
I've copied latest linux-firmware (a few days ago 20210919) and my setup
has improved. I believe more patches on latest one have reduced this
problem. I'll post more on the week when I confirm more.

Title:
  Bluetooth headset random disconnects AX200

Status in linux-firmware package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
Using several different bluetooth headsets I find that the Bluetooth
functionality of the built-in AX200 module of my motherboard keeps
randomly disconnecting. I found that this has been fixed in recent
Linux firmware updates, but I am not sure that fix has landed yet in
  Ubuntu Hirsute.

Herewith I am posting the link to exactly the issue I am having:
  https://gitlab.freedesktop.org/pulseaudio/pulseaudio/-/issues/1155

And the Linux Firmware commit that resolves this:

https://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/firmware/linux-firmware.git/commit/?id=73144e02dcff54529ab42d951de682740d204180

  A related Fedora bug:
  https://bodhi.fedoraproject.org/updates/FEDORA-2021-93247f3274

It's difficult to relate the upstream kernel version firmware version
in which this was fixed (linux-firmware-20210511) to the version of
the linux-firmware Ubuntu package (for me). Perhaps someone can
comment on whether this has been merged in. I am still experiencing
  disconnects with 1.197.1 at least.

  --

  Description: Ubuntu 21.04
  Release: 21.04

  linux-firmware:
Installed: 1.197.1
Candidate: 1.197.1

  I expected:
Bluetooth headset to remain connected

  What happened:
Bluetooth headset connects, then randomly disconnects and reconnects while
playing media

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1873384] Re: Headphone has no sound out

2020-04-27 Thread Cruz Fernandez
On Ubuntu 20.04 I experience similar issue as diagnosed by @prayerholmes
. Selecting on the pop-up headset breaks the audio (but the microphone
works!). After changing on settings->audio the input from `headset
microphone - built-in audio` to `Internal microphone - built-in audio`
and then back to `headset microphone - built-in audio` it works ok.

My computer is a Dell XPS 9550.

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1589889] Re: Bluetooth search gets nothing on Dell XPS 15 9550

2017-07-11 Thread Cruz Fernandez
Looks like nowadays you can download this firmware files from microsoft
site? (this can enable us to automate this installation somehow on
Ubuntu, AFAIK).

1. a Github site that generates this files
https://github.com/winterheart/broadcom-bt-firmware
2. the Microsoft URL:
http://www.catalog.update.microsoft.com/Search.aspx?q=Broadcom+bluetooth

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1065400] Re: Support for loading Broadcom bluetooth firmware

kind of problems (on a Dell xps 13 that has a Broadcom chipset):

Bug description:
Broadcom bluetooth chips require a tool called patchram uploader [1]
to load firmware. This applies to at least BCM20702 and BCM43142.
Although some of the devices have an OTPROM that contains required
firmware, but it is found that these devices would not have HFP/HSP
support unless a upgraded firmware is loaded via patchram uploader.

This tool requires hci device to do the firmware loading, but this may
cause some race condition between patchram tool and bluetoothd or
something that also works on hci interface.

Also it needs some hooks to make firmware loads after bootup, s3, s4,
rfkill, and device hotplug events. Implement this loader in kernel
module would make things more easier.

@painterengr have you tried to download the file from somewhere else?

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1673796] Re: Ubuntu 16.10, Dell XPS 15 9550, DNS problem after suspend/resume

2017-03-18 Thread Cruz Fernandez
Just tried kernel 4.11.0-041100rc2-generic one. Looks like that the bug
is happening (had some issues compiling the DKMS nvidia-357 and
virtualbox, but still could boot up that kernel).

2017-03-17 Thread Cruz Fernandez
It started happening after upgrade from Ubuntu 16.04 to 16.10. Kernels
affected are: 4.8.0-42 and 4.8.0-41 AFAIK.

I'll install latest kernel probably tomorrow if possible and come back
to you @jsalisbury

Thanks for the fast response!

After suspend/resume the wifi network comes back, but the DNS doesn't
work. I've tried to ping a known IP and it works ok though.

My normal solution is to restart the network totally (haven't found a
smaller way to fix the skewed DNS server locally):

  sudo systemctl restart network-manager.service

Not sure if I should report this on other package related to the DNS
  systemd resolve?

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1594614] Re: Ubuntu 16.04 - Broadcom Corporation BCM43602 - wrong icon after first resume

2016-09-15 Thread Cruz Fernandez
@penalvch , I've tested again on kernel 4.8-rc6, and from suspend button
and closing lid, the system is not suspending. It only blocks the
screen, and after unblocking the screen, I cannot open a new terminal,
or access internet, or shutdown the system neither.

When suspending with command 'sudo pm-suspend' it can suspend and also
the wifi-icon is shown correctly!

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1594614] Re: Ubuntu 16.04 - Broadcom Corporation BCM43602 - wrong icon after first resume

2016-09-14 Thread Cruz Fernandez
I've tested 4.8-rc5 and the icon is still showing after first
suspend/resume. After second suspend/resume the icon is shown correctly.

On latest kernel 4.4.0-36 the situation looks similar.

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1589889] Re: Bluetooth search gets nothing on Dell XPS 15 9550

2016-07-08 Thread Cruz Fernandez
Updated firmware with latest one (version 481).

Same as last one, decompress it, and ensure the permissions are correct
on:

-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 54734 may 19 21:22 /lib/firmware/brcm/BCM-
0a5c-6410.hcd

When loaded you should see something this on 'dmesg' like:

[ 6828.577574] Bluetooth: hci0: BCM (001.001.005) build 0481

After more digging on how this works, looks like several broadcom chips
have similar problems to load this type of files (bug #1129865, bug
#1065400). According to a question in askubuntu (also best place of how
the procedure to produce this .hcd files)
http://askubuntu.com/questions/632336/bluetooth-broadcom-43142-isnt-
working-on-ubuntu , there are some legal problems that don't allow this
firmware files to be added to the Ubuntu installation

Thanks a lot to @bertusrex on
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=2317843&p=13514092#post13514092
for getting into windows and getting us the firmware file.

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1589886] Re: Wireless hotkey fails on Dell XPS 15 9550

2016-06-29 Thread Cruz Fernandez
Pressing wireless hotkey (Fn + PrtScr) with kernel 4.4.0-29-generic (the
proposed kernel) now works! (turns on and off Bluetooth and WiFi)

In dmesg I've seen the old warning still (between some lines for starting-up
and down the network and bluetooth),
[ +0,034110] dell_wmi: Unknown key 153 pressed

I suppose that's just a 'nitpick'.

I'm not sure if @kamalmostafa intended me to change the tag from
'verification-needed-xenial' to 'verification-done-xenial' though.

2016-06-26 Thread Cruz Fernandez
Thanks for taking time to explain me Christopher M. Penalver ! I'll add
the log you've requested (to reproduce the problem I don't need to
reboot, just login/logout and suspend/resume produces the wrong-icon-
error)

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1594614] Re: Ubuntu 16.04 - Broadcom Corporation BCM43602 - wrong icon after first resume

2016-06-26 Thread Cruz Fernandez
You are right that the bug #1574347 is closed and already applied on my
system.

I'll trust you that is good the kernel developers confirm this one but
what about the spin-off bug #1589401 and also the upstream gnome-
bugzilla https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=767317 ?

I've confirmed with this command that network-manager has loaded the
correct status (but showing wrong icon):

$ nmcli d
DEVICE TYPE STATE CONNECTION
wlp2s0 wifi connected MyRouterSSID

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1594614] Re: Ubuntu 16.04 - Broadcom Corporation BCM43602 - wrong icon after first resume

2016-06-26 Thread Cruz Fernandez
After more digging, it might have been a mistake to contact the kernel
drivers, as it seems there's a bug #1574347 on the network-manager
component that might be producing this same error.

Maybe we should rollback to avoid having kernel maintainers loose time?
I'll move this issue to network-manager component in best case.

Did you saw a wired-icon instead of wifi by any chance @peter-sabaini or
@lapeth ?

Those leave traces like the following in dmesg

brcmfmac :02:00.0: Direct firmware load for

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1593477] Re: Direct firmware load fails for bluetooth

2016-06-25 Thread Cruz Fernandez
Do you @rvanderwerf have lines similar in your dmesg to

[ +0,74] bluetooth hci0: Direct firmware load for brcm/BCM-0a5c-6410.hcd
failed with error -2
[ +0,07] Bluetooth: hci0: BCM: Patch brcm/BCM-0a5c-6410.hcd not found

After copying the file BCM-0a5c-6410.hcd to /lib/firmware/brcm you can
also reload the btusb to force load without rebooting:

sudo rmmod btusb && sudo modprobe btusb

Title:
Direct firmware load fails for bluetooth

Status in linux package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
  Hardware: XPS 15 9550, BCM43602 Bluetooth
  Release: 16.04
Main Symptom: Mac Key Board and Mac Trackpad not discovered, but other
devices are discovered
  Details:

Firmware not loading + misc errors.

Edited /etc/init/bluetooth.conf to add -d on exec.
  sudo udevadm control --log-prioriry debug

I am assuming the firmware or other errors explain the failure.

Further Testing: Boot laptop on Windows 10 partition, both devices are
  discovered and work.

Note: Bios has some setting to enable Wireless Switch, disable this
  does not help.

The following are from the logs:

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1593477] Re: Direct firmware load fails for bluetooth

2016-06-20 Thread Cruz Fernandez
Have you tried to put the file BCM-0a5c-6410.hcd in /lib/firmware/brcm
(on upstream kernel)?

** Attachment added: "BCM-0a5c-6410.hcd driver file"

Title:
Direct firmware load fails for bluetooth

Status in linux package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
  Hardware: XPS 15 9550, BCM43602 Bluetooth
  Release: 16.04
Main Symptom: Mac Key Board and Mac Trackpad not discovered, but other
devices are discovered
  Details:

Firmware not loading + misc errors.

Edited /etc/init/bluetooth.conf to add -d on exec.
  sudo udevadm control --log-prioriry debug

I am assuming the firmware or other errors explain the failure.

Further Testing: Boot laptop on Windows 10 partition, both devices are
  discovered and work.

Note: Bios has some setting to enable Wireless Switch, disable this
  does not help.

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1571786] Re: Broadcom 43602 requires module to be reloaded to work

2016-06-20 Thread Cruz Fernandez
On my latest updated Ubuntu 16.04 with my Dell XPS 15 9550, the problem
is just aesthetical (the wrong icon is showing). Maybe we should close
this issue with latest kernel? (and focus just on the wrong icon?)

Status in linux source package in Xenial:

Bug description:
Running 16.04, and a recent update (last week?) introduced the
  following issue.

I have a Broadcom wireless card:

  02:00.0 Network controller: Broadcom Corporation BCM43602 802.11ac
  Wireless LAN SoC (rev 01)

Upon startup the network will connect fine. Then after about a minute
it will drop out. Possibly related to the following in dmesg:

[ 163.870916] brcmfmac :02:00.0: Direct firmware load for
  brcm/brcmfmac43602-pcie.txt failed with error -2

If I rmmod and re-insert brcmfmac it works until the next reboot.

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1594614] Re: Ubuntu 16.04 - Broadcom Corporation BCM43602

2016-06-20 Thread Cruz Fernandez
After some digging, there are several related/similar issues to what I'm
seeing on my laptop (also reported on Macbook pro, as it has a very
similar wifi module):

** Summary changed:

- Ubuntu 16.04 - Broadcom Corporation BCM43602
+ Ubuntu 16.04 - Broadcom Corporation BCM43602 - wrong icon after resume

** Description changed:

+ From time to time the wifi icon disappears and it appears a cabled icon
+ (after suspend and resume)
+
On startup it shows some strange errors on dmesg:

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1589886] Re: Wireless hotkey fails on Dell XPS 15 9550

2016-06-16 Thread Cruz Fernandez
I've found the kernel code that is not processing this key-event.
https://github.com/torvalds/linux/blob/master/drivers/platform/x86/dell-
wmi.c#L218

Is there any way that the event is NOT ignored by that code in the case
of the Dell XPS 15 9550? (It was initially designed for Dell XPS 13
9350, where the intel-wifi-driver handles the hotkey event)

I'll try the kernel mentioned by @jsalisbury

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1589889] Re: Bluetooth search gets nothing on Dell XPS 15 9550

2016-06-15 Thread Cruz Fernandez
After even more digging, looks like the problem is with a parameter that
I suspect the tlp package (when using the computer without AC, on
battery-saving mode) and the command powertop --autotune are modifying:

Autosuspend for USB device BCM2045A0 [Broadcom Corp]

I've seen last message o my machine, but others have reported:

Autosuspend for USB device BCM920703 Bluetooth 4.1 [Broadcom Corp]

I think adding the file /lib/firmware/brcm/BCM-0a5c-6410.hcd fixes the
problem, but there might be other solutions (like not-installing tlp
package yet!!)

Suspend breaks on gnome session not on unity session - dell xps 14z

Status in linux package in Ubuntu:

I've got two users on this computer. When using gnome 3 session the

  not affect this other software.

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1589889] Re: Bluetooth search gets nothing on Dell XPS 15 9550

2016-06-14 Thread Cruz Fernandez
After some digging, as suggested in
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=2317843 says:
"""
Following https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=204739 I downloaded the
missing firmware file (thanks @ZombieMeat) at Dropbox and copied it to
/lib/firmware/brcm/
"""
Actually that worked. Attaching file that fixed it

** Attachment added: "bluetooth firmware for directory /lib/firmware/bcrm/"

Title:
Suspend breaks on gnome session not on unity session - dell xps 14z

Status in linux package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete

Bug description:
I've got two users on this computer. When using gnome 3 session the
suspend behaves really quirky. After suspend it might have rendering
problems or it doesn't come back or it comes back with a very slow
  response afterwards.

In Unity the problem doesn't appear, so a hardware problem seems to
  not affect this other software.

I'll try to make a screenshot of the rendering problem

2016-05-12 Thread Cruz Fernandez
Scratch my last comment. I'll add some screenshots with the issue
(hovering the mouse on top of unrendered text shows it temporarily).

After that I'll try to bump my kernel, but will need some days of
testing to reproduce problem

Title:
Suspend breaks on gnome session not on unity session - dell xps 14z

Status in linux package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
I've got two users on this computer. When using gnome 3 session the
suspend behaves really quirky. After suspend it might have rendering
problems or it doesn't come back or it comes back with a very slow
  response afterwards.

In Unity the problem doesn't appear, so a hardware problem seems to
  not affect this other software.

I'll try to make a screenshot of the rendering problem

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1580798] [NEW] Suspend breaks on gnome session not on unity session - dell xps 14z

2016-05-11 Thread Cruz Fernandez
Public bug reported:

I've got two users on this computer. When using gnome 3 session the
suspend behaves really quirky. After suspend it might have rendering
problems or it doesn't come back or it comes back with a very slow
response afterwards.

In Unity the problem doesn't appear, so a hardware problem seems to not
affect this other software.

I'll try to make a screenshot of the rendering problem
