Title:
  NVIDIA cards should have set AllowExternalGpus in

Status in nvidia-graphics-drivers-440 package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed
Status in nvidia-graphics-drivers-450 package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
  I have a Lenovo Thunderbold 3 Graphics Dock (comes integrated NVIDIA
  MTX 1050 graphics card), see
  https://support.lenovo.com/de/en/accessories/acc500012

  *What happened:*

  With nvidia-graphics-drivers-440 I just got a black screen. After
  looink into the /var/log/Xorg.0.log I noticed:

  ```
  (WW) NVIDIA(GPU-0): This device is an external GPU, but external
  GPUs have not
  (WW) NVIDIA(GPU-0): been enabled with AllowExternalGpus. Disabling
  this device
  (WW) NVIDIA(GPU-0): to prevent crashes from accidental removal.
  (EE) NVIDIA(0): Failing initialization of X screen 0
  ```

  Some googling turned up https://forums.developer.nvidia.com/t/egpu-
  and-intel-nuc-xorg-conf-issues-login-loop-and-hanging/69409/4

  After I added the `Option "AllowExternalGpus" "true"` to `Section
  "OutputClass"` of `/usr/share/X11/xorg.conf.d/10-nvidia.conf` and
  rebooting the card worked.

  This is a matter for all eGPUs (external GPUs) that run NVIDIA I
  guess. See reports at

https://www.reddit.com/r/thinkpad/comments/fcuhkn/running_thunderbold_3_graphics_dock_nvidia_mtx/
  and aforementioned https://forums.developer.nvidia.com/t/egpu-and-
  intel-nuc-xorg-conf-issues-login-loop-and-hanging/69409/4

  *Possible solution*

  Add this line to /usr/share/X11/xorg.conf.d/10-nvidia.conf:
  ```
  Section "OutputClass"
  Identifier "nvidia"
  MatchDriver "nvidia-drm"
  Driver "nvidia"
  Option "AllowEmptyInitialConfiguration"
  # v ADD THIS LINE v
  Option "AllowExternalGpus" "true"
  # ^ ADD THIS LINE ^^^
  ModulePath "/usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/nvidia/xorg"
  EndSection
  ```

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1748678] Re: Intel graphics timeout, possibly caused wifi network to fail

2018-05-06 Thread Daniel Llewellyn
I think the bug is still present upstream following more thorough usage.
It seems sensitive to ambient light levels; using the computer in a
darkened room (night) causes more intense and regular symptoms. It seems
related to a bug I swear I filed a few years ago but didn't get any
traction with, but I can't find any references to it. I recorded a video
showing the screen flickering back then which I shared to show the
physical manifestation - it's the same machine with similar behaviour
but not as pronounced: https://youtu.be/zSP2EIAkkJg

  the only relevant message in recent history so I'm working on the

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1752574] Re: Thunderbolt NULL pointer dereference in linux 4.15

2018-03-22 Thread Daniel Llewellyn
Yes, this appears to be either a Firmware or Hardware issue. I have
managed to get everything working via a process of removing other PCIe
devices until it worked in Windows and running a firmware update at that
point before putting all the other devices back. It's working correctly
now.

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1748678] Re: Intel graphics timeout, possibly caused wifi network to fail

2018-02-18 Thread Daniel Llewellyn
Further, I've managed to cause two system lock-ups, which I do not have
logs for because the lock-ups were so severe that the logging system
didn't record the kernel logs before death. I therefore cannot attribute
those two lockups to this issue for now. I've set-up netconsole now to
try to gather logs from these lock-ups so that I can definitively
attribute or rule them out.

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1748678] Re: Intel graphics timeout, possibly caused wifi network to fail

2018-02-17 Thread Daniel Llewellyn
I've tentatively marked it as fixed upstream, but as the bug occurs
sporadically I might not have tested long enough to recreate the
conditions which trigger the bug. I don't have reliable reproduction
steps (read: any steps) so I will continue testing the upstream kernel
in case I do hit it.

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1748678] [NEW] Intel graphics timeout, possibly caused wifi network to fail

2018-02-10 Thread Daniel Llewellyn
Public bug reported:

My wifi network device stopped responding, unable to list any local wifi
networks, which required turning off the adapter in settings and back-on
again. while investigating I found the following in the dmesg output
from the time the network device stopped responding. This is the only
relevant message in recent history so I'm working on the assumption that
somehow the intel gfx timeout knocked-onto the wifi device or the pci
bus.

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1366854] Re: bluetooth will not enable stays blocked

2014-09-16 Thread Daniel Llewellyn
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu
better. I believe you were right to file this under bluez, so I've reassigned
it back there. While waiting for someone to take a look, please execute the
following command, as it will automatically gather debugging information, in a
terminal:
apport-collect 1366854

** Package changed: ubuntu = bluez (Ubuntu)

Title:
  bluetooth will not enable stays blocked

Status in “bluez” package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
  Since installation of 14.04.1 I've been trying to get bluetooth
  working. Under preferences bluetooth says it's disabled. So I did
  $rfkill list all, and that showed me that asus bluetooth is soft
  blocked. I did an $rfkill unblock all, and nothing. I have tried
  everything listed here: http://askubuntu.com/questions/521190
  /bluetooth-disabled-asus-g750jm and the person answering my questions
  suggested I report it as a bug because I'm out of options.

  I'm running a ROG ASUS G750JM it's a fairly new gaming laptop, the
  modem installation went fine through the install process of ubuntu.
  But bluetooth hasn't worked yet.

  I'm not sure what package it is it's probably bluez and it's up to
  date.

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 859137] Re: Motherboard AMD 990FX/SB950 usb don't work

2014-06-09 Thread Daniel Llewellyn
@rushack: if the problem truly is the same as this issue tracks then the
only solution is to turn off the IOMMU feature of your BIOS settings.
unfortunately this means that any software that relies on IOMMU (mostly
KVM or Xen) will fail to provide the features it supplies.

IOMMU is mainly used to improve speed and compatibility of some hardware
accesses by virtualisation utilities such as intel's server ethernet
adapters - VMDQ and SR-IOV.

Status in “linux” package in Ubuntu:
  Fix Released

Bug description:
  USB don't work on a ASUS Crosshair V Formula motherboard.
  If I connect any device to USB 2 printer or flash drive are not recognized.
Also USB mouse and keyboard are not recognized on USB 2 connectors.
  Fortunately if I connect mouse and keyboard to USB 3 connectors they works
constantly.
  If I connect printer or flash drive or external drive box to usb 3 connection
fail after some seconds.
  If I use the USB hub of my Logitech G11 keyboard also the keyboard stop
working.
  I test Ubuntu Oneiric beta1 and all updates since now but the problem it's
always present.
  Also Natty, Maverick and Lucid are effected with this USB malfunction.
  I test also other distributions such as Fedora 15 and Sabayon 6 and the USB
malfunction it's present.
  I test puppy live cd and USB 2 works but not USB 3.
  If I use dmesg | tail I have:
  [ 3603.750117] usb 7-1: device descriptor read/64, error -32
