Some experiments, 1. Try the driver mentioned in #9. The bug still exists. 2. Blacklisted alx and inserting the module after the booting, the system is still failed to connect to wired network. 3. echo 1 /sys/class/net/eth0/device/reset , the system can connect to wired network. Since both re-enable network and re-insert module involved NIC reset (power down then power up), I suspect this it may be a hardware bug. ** Changed in: linux (Ubuntu) Status: In Progress = Triaged -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kernel Packages, which is subscribed to linux in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1223647 Title: [AR8161][1969:1091][wired connection failed] wired connection could not be established until re-insert alx kernel module or re-enable networking via network manager indicator Status in “linux” package in Ubuntu: Triaged Bug description: CID: 201308-14111 (Dell Inspiron One 2330) (AIO) OS: Updated Ubuntu 12.04.2 LTS (Updated for AR8161 alx driver, LP: #927782) Steps to reproduce bugs: 1. install Ubuntu 12.04.2 on this machine 2. after the installation, boot into the system. [Kernel-packages] [Bug 1250401] Re: [Dell Inspiron 5737] brightness could not be controlled by the indicator applet System settings - Brightness and Lock but sysfs works
Tried following kernel parameters, 1. acpi_osi=!Windows 2012 2. acpi_backlight=vendor 3. video.use_native_backlight=1 each of them can fix this bug. Since upstream is going to change the default for video.use_native_backlight to 1, this bug can be fixed in later release after the patch is merged. ref: https://www.mail-archive.com/linux- ker...@vger.kernel.org/msg658581.html ** Changed in: linux (Ubuntu Trusty) Status: Confirmed = Triaged -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kernel Packages, which is subscribed to linux in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1250401 Title: [Dell Inspiron 5737] brightness could not be controlled by the indicator applet System settings - Brightness and Lock but sysfs works Status in “linux” package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Status in “linux-lts-raring” package in Ubuntu: New Status in “linux” source package in Trusty: Triaged Status in “linux-lts-raring” source package in Trusty: Invalid Bug description: Dell Inspiron 5737 (CID 201305-13636) with ubuntu 12.04.3 steps to reproduce the bug: 1. install 12.04.3 on this machine 2. update the system via update manager to make the system up-to-date 3. click the upper-right indicator to launch the System settings - Brightness and Lock applet 4. try to adjust the brightness bar to control the brightness expected result: the brightness could be adjusted by the bar actual result: screen brightness has no response -- ProblemType: Bug DistroRelease: Ubuntu 12.04 Package: linux-image-3.8.0-33-generic 3.8.0-33.48~precise1 ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 3.8.0-33.48~precise1-generic 3.8.13.11 Uname: Linux 3.8.0-33-generic x86_64 AlsaVersion: Advanced Linux Sound Architecture Driver Version k3.8.0-33-generic. Actual result: * The system will be powered off, but few seconds later, it boots itself automatically. [Kernel-packages] [Bug 1322470] Re: [Dell Inspiron 1120] System reboots itself after shut down
I disabled the wakeup sources in /proc/acpi/wakeup for further experiment under 3.2.0-61 I found that this bug is disappeared by disabling XPDV wakeup source with 10 times shutdown test. (The disabling command is echo XPDV /proc/acpi/wakeup) The information from lspci and acpi wakeup table indicates that XPDV and NIC is the same device. I will look at the PCI driver, too. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kernel Packages, which is subscribed to linux in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1322470 Title: [Dell Inspiron 1120] System reboots itself after shut down Status in “linux” package in Ubuntu: In Progress Bug description: CID: 201103-7380 Dell Inspiron 1120 This SRU system would reboot itself automatically after powered off. [Kernel-packages] [Bug 1322470] Re: [Dell Inspiron 1120] System reboots itself after shut down
If Ethernet cable is plugged, this issue can be reproduced on 3.2.0-61. Following 3 conditions can avoid this issue. 1. Removed NIC driver (atl1c) 2. Disable NIC from BIOS 3. Unplug Ethernet cable It should be a NIC driver bug. Verified this bug on Ubuntu 12.04 (3.11.0-15-generic), this issue is disappeared. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kernel Packages, which is subscribed to linux in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1322470 Title: [Dell Inspiron 1120] System reboots itself after shut down Status in “linux” package in Ubuntu: Triaged Bug description: CID: 201103-7380 Dell Inspiron 1120 This SRU system would reboot itself automatically after powered off. [Kernel-packages] [Bug 1303737] Re: [HP 242 G2] Wireless key events were not detected at all
I test the kernel image - linux-image-3.13.0-28-generic_3.13.0-28.51_amd64.deb. I can't find hp-wireless.ko after installation. So I install linux-image-3.13.0-28-generic_3.13.0-28.51~precise1_amd64.deb. The wireless key works fine on this image. And, as Alex mentioned in bug 1118689 #6, BIOS no longer uses WMI to control the wireless if win8 capability is enabled. The patch I mentioned #3 (upstream 54290fa6) fixed this bug. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kernel Packages, which is subscribed to linux in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1303737 Title: [HP 242 G2] Wireless key events were not detected at all Status in “linux” package in Ubuntu: In Progress Status in “linux” source package in Saucy: Triaged Status in “linux” source package in Trusty: Fix Committed Bug description: CID: 201309-14199 HP 242 G2 The wireless key press / release events were not detected at all.
