[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1821597] Re: USB suspend / resume with docking station and laptop lid closed

2019-04-03 Thread Eero Aaltonen
Not new. It's been haunting me since I upgraded from 14.04 to 16.04. I
finally managed to make some sense of it and reproducible tests. Noticed
first at #1663555, but was unable to narrow it down.

Title:
  USB suspend / resume with docking station and laptop lid closed

Status in linux package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete

Bug description:
  The components:
  - Dell Precision M4800 laptop
  - Dell docking station, with USB keyboard attached

  Ubuntu 16.04 installed

  Test case A) Booting in Docking Station with laptop lid closed:
  ===
  Boot will proceed through unlocking disk encryption. When graphical user
interface starts, screen will go black and start spewing `unable to enumerate
USB device on port` messages

  Test case B) In docking station, close lid and resume:
  =
  (Boot sequence done with laptop lid open)
  If laptop lid is closed before resuming from suspend, screen will soon go
black and start spewing `unable to enumerate USB device on port` messages

  Test case C) Suspend without docking station (this one works):
  ==
  1. Boot to laptop without docking station attached
  2. Suspend
  3. Attach to docking station with lid closed
  4. Resume

  C) is currently the only case where everything works properly.

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1821597] Re: USB suspend / resume with docking station and laptop lid closed

2019-03-26 Thread Eero Aaltonen
Apport logs are from test case B), since it's the most reliable way to
both reproduce a problem and (in some cases) still get a working
desktop.

** Description changed:

  The components:
  - Dell Precision M4800 laptop
  - Dell docking station, with USB keyboard attached

  Ubuntu 16.04 installed

  Test case A) Booting in Docking Station with laptop lid closed:
  ===
  Boot will proceed through unlocking disk encryption. When graphical user
interface starts, screen will go black and start spewing `unable to enumerate
USB device on port` messages

-
  Test case B) In docking station, close lid and resume:
  =
- If laptop lid is closed when resuming from suspend, screen will go black and
start spewing `unable to enumerate USB device on port` messages
-
+ (Boot sequence done with laptop lid open)
+ If laptop lid is closed before resuming from suspend, screen will soon go
black and start spewing `unable to enumerate USB device on port` messages

  Test case C) Suspend without docking station (this one works):
  ==
  1. Boot to laptop without docking station attached
  2. Suspend
  3. Attach to docking station with lid closed
  4. Resume

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1821597] Re: USB suspend / resume with docking station and laptop lid closed

2019-03-26 Thread Eero Aaltonen
apport information

** Tags added: apport-collected xenial

** Description changed:

  The components:
  - Dell Precision M4800 laptop
  - Dell docking station, with USB keyboard attached

  Ubuntu 16.04 installed

  Test case A) Booting in Docking Station with laptop lid closed:
  ===
  Boot will proceed through unlocking disk encryption. When graphical user
interface starts, screen will go black and start spewing `unable to enumerate
USB device on port` messages

  Test case B) In docking station, close lid and resume:
  =
  If laptop lid is closed when resuming from suspend, screen will go black and
start spewing `unable to enumerate USB device on port` messages

  Test case C) Suspend without docking station (this one works):
  ==
  1. Boot to laptop without docking station attached
  2. Suspend
  3. Attach to docking station with lid closed
  4. Resume

  C) is currently the only case where everything works properly.

Title:
  USB suspend / resume with docking station and laptop lid closed

Status in linux package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete

Bug description:
  The components:
  - Dell Precision M4800 laptop
  - Dell docking station, with USB keyboard attached

  Ubuntu 16.04 installed

  Test case A) Booting in Docking Station with laptop lid closed:
  ===

  ==
  1. Boot to laptop without docking station attached
  2. Suspend
  3. Attach to docking station with lid closed
  4. Resume

  C) is currently the only case where everything works properly.

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1097519] Re: bcmwl-kernel-source_6.20 update breaks for BCM4313

2013-09-16 Thread Eero Aaltonen
Updated the title since bcmwl-kernel-source_5.100.82.112+bdcom-0ubuntu3
seems to work fine.

** Summary changed:

- Wrong driver used for older Broadcom chipsets
+ bcmwl-kernel-source_6.20 update breaks for BCM4313

Title:
  bcmwl-kernel-source_6.20 update breaks for BCM4313

Status in “bcmwl” package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed
Status in “ubuntu-drivers-common” package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
  On upgrade to 13.04, the wl.ko, package bcmwl-kernel-source drier is
  selected.

  This driver does not allow the computer to boot and causes great pain in
recovery for users, most of which will not be able to get the Ubuntu
installation functional
  https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/bcmwl/+bug/1097509

  Instead use the driver brcmsmac, that actually works with BCM4313
