[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1808957] Re: Dell XPS 13 (9370) defaults to s2idle sleep/suspend instead of deep

2019-03-06 Thread Grentz
Today with 4.18.0-16-generic and s2idle activated, the consumption is
lesser than in the past.

100 % at 0h00 : I leave my laptop without suspend it. KDE suspend my laptop
after 15 min.
95% at 7h40

I've powertop enabled.

Title:
  Dell XPS 13 (9370) defaults to s2idle sleep/suspend instead of deep

Status in linux package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete

Bug description:
  It seems that the Dell 9370 is set to go into s2idle mode rather than
  deep sleep, forgoing significant power savings.

  I have confirmed this by suspending and then checking:
  sudo journalctl | grep "PM: suspend" | tail -2. If the output is

  PM: suspend entry (s2idle)
  PM: suspend exit

  cat /sys/power/mem_sleep showed

  [s2idle] deep

  As a temporary fix, I typed
  echo deep > /sys/power/mem_sleep
  as a root user (sudo -i).

  Then the output of cat /sys/power/mem_sleep was
  s2idle [deep]

  After suspending now,
  sudo journalctl | grep "PM: suspend" | tail -2 returns

  PM: suspend entry (deep)
  PM: suspend exit

  I have made this permanent by editing
  /etc/default/grub

  and replacing
  GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet splash"
  with
  GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet splash mem_sleep_default=deep"

  then regenerating my grub configuration (sudo grub-mkconfig -o
  /boot/grub/grub.cfg).

  This appears to be working with no ill effects.

2019-03-06 Thread Grentz
Today, with freshly installed 4.18.0-16-generic, it seems to be a better
behavior.
With s2idle :
100% battery at 0h00
95% at 7:40

$ sudo cat /sys/power/mem_sleep
[s2idle] deep

Moving mouse (connected via bluetooth) resumes the laptop.

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1810619] Re: Sleep mode doesn't work

2019-01-15 Thread Grentz
Yes, I've tested a few days ago and I believe the same behavior appears
: no really sleep mode, battery in discharge. Just the screen black.

But I've non tested with
$ sudo sh -c 'echo mem > /sys/power/state'
$ sudo sh -c 'echo deep > /sys/power/mem_sleep'

I don't know the default value of this two files and it seems the kernel
memories them.

Sorry for my English

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1810619] Re: Sleep mode doesn't work

2019-01-15 Thread Grentz
> Do you mean a fully charged battery only lasts 4 ~ 6 hours?

I will do some other tests next days but if a suspend my laptop at 1:00
with a battery loaded about 40%, when I try to resume at 7:00, the
laptop refuse to resume (battery empty). I have to plug in the charger
in order to resume (normal boot because a halt was certainly requested
by the system on battery low).

With :
$ sudo sh -c 'echo mem > /sys/power/state'
$ sudo sh -c 'echo deep > /sys/power/mem_sleep'
the problem disappears.

2019-01-14 Thread Grentz

About 4 - 6 hours.

With 4.18-10, I don't have this behavior. Is it right ?

I've read
https://www.kernel.org/doc/Documentation/admin-guide/pm/sleep-states.rst
$ sudo sh -c 'echo mem > /sys/power/state'
$ sudo sh -c 'echo deep > /sys/power/mem_sleep'

With this two lines, my Dell XPS 13 9370 go in a sleep mode : no really
battery discharge during 5 - 6 hours, resume only with power button or
by opening the screen. The resume take just a more time than before.

2019-01-09 Thread Grentz
I've tested with https://people.canonical.com/~khfeng/lp1810619/

Bug still present :
- no really suspend mode (the battery continue to discharge like the laptop is
in activity)
- resume by touch the keyboard
- sudo sh -c 'echo disabled > /sys/bus/serio/devices/serio0/power/wakeup'
disabled the keyboard touch (not deep tested)

Entering in sleep mode make a shutdown directly. I've no hibernation option on
