It's hard to reproduce this bug, thus I am not sure whether this would
help. I will keep monitoring for a while whether it occurs again, and if
not, close the bug. Otherwise I will do the tests you recommended.

I would also like to inquire a status update on this. HP Elitebooks are
the staff laptops at a university and agency that I work for, and this
bug is a considerable nuisance to those users. It would be great if this
could still be fixed soon.

Daniel, has this been fixed with 331.20? I'm seeing the entry
Added a new NV-CONTROL attribute, NV_CTRL_BACKLIGHT_BRIGHTNESS, for
controlling backlight brightness.
