[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1517285] Re: (nouveau driver) NVIDIA G84 8600M problem with resolution

2015-11-19 Thread Israel Dahl
Desired Resolution: 1690x1050 (present with proprietary NVIDIA module)
Nouveau resolution: 640x480 (no other choices in arandr)
It is quite hard to work with such a resolution on such a large LCD :)

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1517285] Re: (nouveau driver) NVIDIA G84 8600M problem with suspend

2015-11-18 Thread Israel Dahl
The worst part is the lack of a decent resolution.
But unfortunately the bug is still present.
It is related to another earlier bug, but with much worse resolution now

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1377878] Re: PPC - GUI freezes except for mouse pointer

2015-02-20 Thread Israel Dahl
I experienced this bug as well. I did not run ubiquity, I ran firefox and it
froze after a few moments. The screen is frozen, and the mouse cursor is stuck
with the same cursor.
This was done using:
 Lubuntu 14.04.2 (testing)
On a:
 powerbook4_3 (iBook 2 rev. 2)

Status in linux package in Ubuntu:

Bug description:
During the installation the computer freezes completely except for the
mouse pointer. And even that is stuck with whatever shape it happened
to have at the time it froze. The steps I have to cause the freeze
are run Ubiquity to start the installation open a terminal, run
Ubuntu-bug and let it launch Firefox. It will freeze every time then.
Even the consoles (ctrl-alt-f1 etc) are unavailable. What kind of
information can I collect and how?

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1173074] Re: 10de:0652 [Samsung NP-R710-AT01NL] Nouveau freezes after suspend/resume in Ubuntu 13.04 / 3.8.0

Title:
10de:0652 [Samsung NP-R710-AT01NL] Nouveau freezes after
  suspend/resume in Ubuntu 13.04 / 3.8.0

Status in “linux” package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete
Status in Arch Linux:
  New

Bug description:
Before updating to Raring yesterday, I first fully disabled the Xorg-
edgers PPA (by ppa-purge) and was therefore switched back to the
Nouveau driver. Then updated my system from Quantal to Raring.
Afterwards, I noticed that after a suspend/resume the greeter would
not appear or hang completely. I was intermittently able to move the
cursor, but the GUI would not respond to hovering or clicking.

I did not experience this bug in Quantal with kernel 3.5, but I rather
quickly switched to the proprietary driver for performance reasons.

I am on a laptop with NVidia GeForce 130M video card on Raring with
kernel 3.8.0, no experimental drivers in use. Attached is also a dmesg
log from a previous time this occurred, with me trying to recover from
the situation by various means - there are a lot of nouveau-related
error messages in it. Ctrl-alt-backspace does nothing, SysRq+K does
what it is supposed to do but to no avail, restarting lightdm
  obviously does not help.

  To reproduce:
  1. Boot
  2. Suspend
  3. Resume

  Observed behaviour:
The greeter does not appear or hangs completely, switching to another VT is
initially impossible, after a certain period of time nouveau starts spitting
out error messages to the screen and it is then again possible to switch to
another VT. Sometimes X randomly restarts and shows the boot-time greeter,
where I can log in, but after that the system freezes again.

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1022092] Re: Sony VAIO VGN-FW275J doesn't resume from suspend

2013-08-17 Thread Israel Dahl
I am not going to install Windows Vista on any machine ever, so this bug will
remain at an impass.
The only BIOS update available is for Windows Vista. Using a bootable Winows
PE cd does not allow me to run the BIOS update utility...
I will continue to use the hacky workaround instead.

Sony VAIO VGN-FW275J doesn't resume from suspend

Status in “linux” package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete

Bug description:
Everything works quite well, including suspend. But the computer
simply rebooted, instead of resuming from suspend. I never use
suspend, so It is working fine for my daily needs. I use the kernel
full time daily without any major usability issues, save for this
small issue that normally wouldn't effect me.

  WORKAROUND: Edit the /etc/default/grub file:
  gksu gedit /etc/default/grub

Look up the line where it says:
  GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT=quiet splash

  and change it to:
  GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT=quiet splash acpi_sleep=nonvs

Save and close the gedit file. Update the GRUB menu:
  sudo update-grub

  Reboot and enjoy!
