[Kernel-packages] [Bug 2000947] Re: UVC Quanta 0408:4035 camera PROBLEM

2023-04-16 Thread Marcos Bernardo Jr
Hey there, sorry for the late reply!

I don't know if i can do much to help, but i can affirm that me and
Joseph probably have the same laptop model, and the main difference may
be that he's on Mint 21, and i'm on Ubuntu 22.

Anyways, to provide means to a comparison, here are my outputs for the
following commands:

sudo dmesg | grep uvc

[2.979919] uvcvideo: loading out-of-tree module taints kernel.
[2.72] uvcvideo: module verification failed: signature and/or required

If there's anything i can do to give you guys more info on how to solve
this, just let me know!

  UVC Quanta 0408:4035 camera PROBLEM

Status in linux package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

  PROPOSED SOLUTION
I got in contact with laurent.pinch...@ideasonboard.com and with
riba...@chromium.org , and subscribed to https://www.linuxtv.org/lists. And
me...@vger.kernel.org mailinglist.

Laurent proposed me a fix and I modified the 5,15 uvc_driver.c
version, and loaded it on github

  https://github.com/Giuliano69/uvc_driver-for-Quanta-HD-User-
  Facing-0x0408-0x4035-/blob/main/uvc_driver.c

I offered to test the fix, so I tried to compile the module with the
  new source.

  COMPILING PROBLEMS
I’m running **Ubuntu 22.04.1 LTS, with kernel
  giuliano@Astra2A:/usr/src$ cat /proc/version_signature

BUT the linux-source that I found installed seems to be different

I manually copied the uvcvideo.ko in
  /lib/modules/5.15.0-56-
  sudo cp…...

then tryed to intall the new uvcvideo.ko module
sudo rmmod uvcvideo && sudo modprobe uvcvideo

  BUT… IT FAILS
giuliano@Astra2A:~$ sudo rmmod uvcvideo && sudo modprobe uvcvideo
modprobe: ERROR: could not insert 'uvcvideo': Exec format error

  and dmesg shows

  Basically
OLD module: vermagic: 5.15.0-56-generic SMP mod_unload modversions
NEW module: vermagic: 5.15.64 SMP mod_unload modversions

  -kindly ASK

HOW can FORCE the uvcdriver.c to match mi kernel version ?
Have I got OTHER ways to make the kernel module I’m compiling, match my
running system ?

I would like to test the module so to confirm the patch and let it
  enter the kernel main stream...

  PS
btw…. to allow Eclipse to compile the kernel, I had to pass this commands
  scripts/config --disable CONFIG_SYSTEM_REVOCATION_KEYS
  scripts/config --disable SYSTEM_REVOCATION_KEYS
  scripts/config --disable SYSTEM_TRUSTED_KEYS

hope that this does not affect the module layout & checking

2023-04-11 Thread Marcos Bernardo Jr
It worked like a charm, @giuliano69
After modifying said line, i compiled and installed, and then ran "sudo rmmod
uvcvideo && sudo modprobe uvcvideo" as said in #24, and boom.

I`ll do my part and share this solution on every other page where i`ve
seen this problem reported.

Thanks for the help (and for the quick answer!)

2023-04-10 Thread Marcos Bernardo Jr
Same problem...
I have an Aspire A515-57 and i am running into the same issue :/
I have tried replicating the steps from #19, but didn't manage to fix it.
Probably due to my lack of experience using Linux. Mine is the 0408:4033

BTW could any of you gentlemen do a more detailed step-by-step or video
for the layman such as myself?

Thanks in advance!

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1940860] Re: Mellanox NIC interface names change between 5.4 and 5.8

2021-11-08 Thread Javier Diaz Jr
Note that this is for the latest focal debian-installer. Since there is
no hwe-netboot image the current focal installer is affected. I think an
hwe-netboot image for focal would resolve this issue for the installer.

I bisected this down to a kernel change:
  # first bad commit: [c6acd629eec754a9679f922d51f90e44c769b80c] net/mlx5e: Add
support for devlink-port in non-representors mode

The impact is that your network can fail to come up after
transitioning from the LTS kernel to the HWE kernel. Now, this isn't a
huge problem for MAAS installs because MAAS configures netplan to
always use the same names as were used at commissioning. It does
impact subiquity based installs however, which do not.

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1940860] Re: Mellanox NIC interface names change between 5.4 and 5.8

2021-11-05 Thread Javier Diaz Jr
This also affects the ubuntu-installer when the `d-i base-
installer/kernel/override-image string linux-generic-hwe-20.04`
flag is added to preseed. The installer loads 5.4 kernel and configure
NICs using the 5.4 naming convention, then once the 5.11 kernel is
loaded and the host reboots the network config fails.

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1937296] Re: Kernel Hang During "Loading initial ramdisk..."

2021-09-20 Thread Boyd Stephen Smith Jr.
On a personal note, I'm unable to be productive at work because I can no
longer find a kernel that will boot with networking in a non-line
environment. Never had this happen with the Debian installation I have
on System76 (but not-Serval) hardware I have at home.

5.11.0-7620-generic never booted.

5.11.0-7633-generic never booted.

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1937296] Re: Kernel Hang During "Loading initial ramdisk..."

2021-09-20 Thread Boyd Stephen Smith Jr.
5.11.0-7614-generic was updated last week, and no longer boots.

5.13.0-7614-generic had never booted.

5.8.0-43-generic boots, but comes up without audio devices or network
devices (neither wired nor wireless). This is particularly weird since
the Ubuntu Live environment I'm writing this update from is using
5.8.0-43, and has both audio and networking working fine.

5.4.0-84-generic boots, but comes up without audio devices or network
devices.

I still need to try 5.4.0-26, but I'm not hopeful.

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1875459] Re: System hangs when loading google maps on chrome with navi AMD GPU

Title:
System hangs when loading google maps on chrome with navi AMD GPU

Status in linux package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
Since upgrading to 20.04 from 19.10 I can reliably hang my system by
loading Google Maps in Chrome and zooming in and out.

  After turning on DRM debugging:

  echo 0x1ff | sudo tee /sys/module/drm/parameters/debug

I can see the following message in the kernel log:

  [16333.092468] [drm:amdgpu_job_timedout [amdgpu]] *ERROR* ring gfx_0.0.0
timeout, signaled seq=2542114, emitted seq=2542116

information: process pid 0 thread pid 0
  [16333.092540] [drm] GPU recovery disabled.

It seems to be this upstream bug:
  https://gitlab.freedesktop.org/drm/amd/issues/892

  I have two workarounds:

  * Running Chrome with AMD_DEBUG=nongg fixes the issue on 5.4.0-26
  * With the latest upstream kernel, 5.6.7-050607, Chrome can load google maps
with no issues.

I think that ever since the HDMI audio driver failed; my system has been
unable to update properly. I think that If it is possible to either re-
install the HDMI audio driver or both the HDMI audio driver and the HDMI
video driver, the Turks version for the AMD Radeon HD 6570 to correct
the problem. This is because AMD does not give support for Ubuntu 16.04.
They give support for Ubuntu 14.04 and lower. In other words, there are
not any proprietary AMD HDMI drivers to correct the problems and
therefore the end result is that the system does not update properly and
there are many errors related directly to this problem. Often I get
system error messages because of these faulty drivers which create this
insane endless loop of code which prevent me from properly updating my
programs. The generic Ubuntu HDMI drivers are clearly failing on the
Turks version of the AMD Radeon HD 6570. There is not any catalyst
control center to tweak the video and audio. If AMD does finally give
Ubuntu 16.04 support then this insanity will end. Otherwise, I am
dependent on Ubuntu to create a better Turks driver for my AMD Radeon HD
6570. Thank you very much for all of your help!! I hope that this driver
problem can be resolved and Ubuntu 16.04 can be restored to sanity. Feel

Public bug reported:

I noticed that on the graphics driver it says that the version on the
driver is the AMD TURKS (DRM 2.43.0 / 4.4.0-173-generic, LLVM 6.0.0). I
noticed that my HDMI audio driver got dropped from sound settings after
running my external sound card, my Cakewalk UA-25EX driver which works
but I lost my HDMI audio driver after unplugging the Cakewalk UA-25EX
sound card. I'm not sure what version of the 16.04 64 bit operating
system but I suspect that the package linux-image 4.40.170 generic but I
am not sure without booting into the recovery mode at start up. Maybe
what is happening is that the computer is trying to either upgrade from
16.04 to 18.04 or just updating programs instead. Either way, I think
that the HDMI audio driver needs to be corrected, re-installed and the
updates need to work again, maybe I need to do more work in the recovery
console like repair broken packages etc.. I will keep you posted on it.
Hopefully, the recovery console will resolve the problems, if not, I
will have to run the terminal and correct the get the updates by using
sudo apt-get update and sudo apt-install upgrade or the like. Feel free
to keep me posted on any solutions that may correct the problems. I
really want to correct the HDMI audio problem. I have a AMD HD Radeon

you very kindly and have a wonderful day!!

I have the Ubuntu Software center version 3.20.5 installed. My current
system is listed as this: 4.4.0-173-generic #203-Ubuntu SMP Wed Jan 15
02:55:01 UTC 2020 x86_64. This information is from the system log. I
wanted to update my system and maybe eventually upgrade from Ubuntu
16.04 to Ubuntu 18.04. I'm happy with Ubuntu 16.04 except there is not
any catalyst control center for my video card to tweak. I wonder why is
the package linux-image 4.4.0.171 generic 4.4.0.171.200 trying to
install if I have the 4.4.0.173 generic version already installed? Maybe
the computer is trying to correct it's self? Feel free to let me know
how to handle this and have a good day!! Also, my computer forgets that
I want to auto-login and creates this crash report each time I startup
my computer. It may be a video driver problem but I am not sure because
my computer should auto-login, instead of me typing in my password every
time I startup my computer. Maybe this startup problem is related to the
loss of the HDMI audio driver but I'm not sure about it. The startup
problem did not occur until after the loss of the HDMI audio driver. I
can try removing my video card and booting up with onboard graphics and
then clearing the improper HDMI video and audio drivers and shut down
and put my video card back in to my computer to see if it refreshes its
self. Maybe that will resolve the HDMI audio problem and resolve the
boot sign in problem as well by refreshing the drivers.

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1796895] Re: Kernel 4.15.0-36 network performance regression

2018-10-09 Thread Van Stokes, Jr.
We had a similar issue with our MySQL server farm (seven dedicated MySQL
servers). Replication was very slow, falling behind for no apparent
reason. We were reaching 24 hours of lag! We never had that kind of lag
before. A couple of minutes at the most.

Long story short, we rebooted to 4.15.0.34 and the servers caught up
replication with in minutes!

Title:
  Kernel 4.15.0-36 network performance regression

Status in linux package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete

Bug description:
  Hardware:

HP DL380 Gen 7 server with Gigabit interface.
  Ubuntu release: 18.04.1

Since upgrading from 4.15.0-33 to 4.15.0-36, I have noticed a dramatic
  slowdown in TCP over IPv6.

Set up: two servers, Server A in US on Ubuntu 18.04.1, Server B in
  Europe.

Test: Sending 400MB over TCP from Server B to Server A.

With 4.15.0-33 on Server A, the transfer is completed in 24 seconds,
with average speed of 139 mbps.

With 4.15.0-36 on Server A, the same amount of data is transferred in
369 seconds, average speed less than 9 mbps.

Looking at the result from tcpdump, I see that the there is a big
difference in the TCP Window size.

With 3.15-0.33 the TCP window size is around 3. But with
3.15-0.36, the window size is only 734.

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1754913] Re: ASUS w/ Atom N270 - Ubuntu 16.04.4 doesn't work properly.

2018-06-27 Thread Wilfred F. Drouin Jr.
Same issue with Gateway LT20 Netbook (Intel 945GM chipset and 1024x600 display)
running Xubuntu 16.04
Problem began with latest update to Linux 4.13.0-45-generic kernel.
Using recovery mode barely usable but stretches 800x600 across the display.
Booting with 4.10.0-42-generic eliminates the problem.

I don't see how this is even possibly related. Furthermore, "btrfs fi show" as
well as snapshots seem to work just fine for me.

That being said, I've given up on running a 32-bit userspace, so I don't
really care if this bugfix gets reverted or not.

Bug description:
Networking breaks after awhile in kvm guests using virtio networking.
We run data intensive jobs on our virtual cluster (OpenStack Grizzly
Installed on Ubuntu 12.04 Server). The job runs fine on a single
worker VM (no data transfer involved). As soon as I add more nodes
where the workers need to exchange some data, one of the worker VM
goes down. Ping responds with 'host unreachable'. Logging in via the
serial console shows no problems: eth0 is up, can ping the local host,
but no outside connectivity. Restart the network
(/etc/init.d/networking restart) does nothing. Reboot the machine and
  it comes alive again.

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 604630] Re: boot sequence no longer honors SHM_SIZE set in /etc/defaults/tmpfs

2013-12-16 Thread Nicholas J. Fiorello Jr.
Given that:

1) The config file : /etc/default/tmpfs is no longer installed and
therefore doesn't contain a comment that says Adjust the default size
of /dev/shm by uncommenting the line below (or whatever it said
exactly)

2) /dev/shm is now mounted as /run/shm who's size is controlled by some
other form of black magic

3) The reason I needed the size change was to tweak the now obsolete
vmware server 2.x

I'd say this issue can be folded, spindled, and mutilated.

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1237833] Re: Process freezes during IO on btrfs

2013-10-10 Thread JR
I removed the mount options compressed and booted into recovery mode
performing an filesystem check. now my problem is gone.
I'll wait a few more 3.12 rcs, and will then try with compression re-enabled.

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1172447] Re: AMD video card in my Dell Studio 1557 doesn't work correctly after upgrading to 13.04

2013-08-20 Thread JR
sorry, this is my production environment and I cannot upgrade now. I
could try using a live cd, but as you can read in comment #4, my system
worked well with the 13.04 live cd.

I intend to upgrade my system to 13.10, and I will maybe do it before
the official release, so after that I'll give an update if everything
works in the new system.

Title:
AMD video card in my Dell Studio 1557 doesn't work correctly after
  upgrading to 13.04

Status in “linux” package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete

Bug description:
When I boot the upgraded system with my old kernel (3.5.0-27),
everything works as before. When I boot my notebook with the default
kernel (some 3.8.x) I do see the boot logo, and afterwards I see a
completely mess. In that case, even switching to a text console
  doesn't always work.
