** Tags added: apport-collected bionic

** Description changed:

With update 1.173.6 of linux-firmware (bionic-updates) a new firmware file
was installed :
  /lib/firmware/brcm/brcmfmac4366c-pcie.bin

Package revision 1.173 does not have the 4366c file (it only has the 4366b
file).
Under 16.04 the ASUS PCE-AC88 was wrongly loading a 4366b firmware, and did
not work out of the box.

I followed instructions to retrieve the correct firmware from drivers
available on the manufacturer web site, and I was having no issue.

I upgraded my system to 18.04.2, and wifi worked very well until the
installation of linux-firmware 1.173.6, which came with bionic-updates.
After this update, the remotely operated server dropped the wifi
connection, requiring a local intervention, and had long freezes making
it drop connection and sometimes seem to fail to boot up.

In addition syslog was filled with messages:
  brcmfmac: brcmf_msgbuf_alloc_pktid: dma_map_single failed !!
brcmfmac: brcmf_msgbuf_rxbuf_data_post: No PKTID available !!

  I also had in kern.log:
[191882.330601] brcmfmac :04:00.0: swiotlb buffer is full (sz: 2048 bytes)
[191882.330603] brcmfmac :04:00.0: DMA: Out of SW-IOMMU space for 2048
bytes
  [191882.330605] brcmfmac: brcmf_msgbuf_alloc_pktid: dma_map_single failed !!
  [191882.330607] brcmfmac: brcmf_msgbuf_rxbuf_data_post: No PKTID available !!

Both pointing to potentially serious DMA problems.

When I noticed that my firmware had been overwritten, I recovered
another one from ASUS support web site, using the same method I had used
previously. The system and wifi now seem to work correctly.

This computer lacks an IOMMU. The problem might not occur on more modern
hardware equipped with a hardware IOMMU.

More information on the fairly old system (issue might be also hardware
  dependent):

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1830396] [NEW] Broadcomm PCE-AC88 wifi drops out - system freezes

2019-05-24 Thread Jean-Marc Le Peuvedic
Public bug reported:

With update 1.173.6 of linux-firmware (bionic-updates) a new firmware file was
installed :
/lib/firmware/brcm/brcmfmac4366c-pcie.bin

Package revision 1.173 does not have the 4366c file (it only has the 4366b
file).
Under 16.04 the ASUS PCE-AC88 was wrongly loading a 4366b firmware, and did not
work out of the box.

[191882.330603] brcmfmac :04:00.0: DMA: Out of SW-IOMMU space for 2048 bytes

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1326761] Re: Tevii S471 DVB-S2 card hangs on firmware upload

2018-03-06 Thread Jean-Marc Wislez
I can't confirm for sure (long time ago), but I was upgrading from Ubuntu 12.04
LTS (kernel 3.2) and I first bumped into this problem then.
I still see the problem in 16.04, but it does not prevent me from using the
card.

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1542743] Re: Bluetooth: Patch file not found ar3k/AthrBT_0x00000200.dfu

2017-11-15 Thread jean-marc
The latest patch does work when you realize that the skb_put function
has recently changed from (unsigned char*) to (void *) ( see
https://patchwork.ozlabs.org/patch/776580/ for fix).

The lines where appears "*skb_put" need to be changed to "*(u8
*)skb_put". This was enough for me to get my bluetooth adapter to work
(MSI GS60 6QC). This may not be the best way but I am not a competent
programmer

Thanks for the package !

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1340461] Re: Nikon CoolPix 5600 camera not recognized

2016-07-21 Thread Jean-Marc
Hello Joseph,

Yes, I think this issue happened after an update/upgrade but I don't
remember the kernel version. The problem first appear with Ubuntu 14.04.

V4.7-rc7 is now installed on my computer and the bug is still present,
same error message in Shotwell.

Thank you

My Nikon Coolpix 5600 camera is not automatically detected (no icon in the
Launcher or in "Devices"). However it appears in Shotwell.

Nikon (error message: Could not claim the USB device (-53))
All the other USB devices work (webcam, flash drives, external HDD, mouse and
keyboard).

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1326761] Re: Tevii S471 DVB-S2 card hangs on firmware upload

2015-11-23 Thread Jean-Marc Wislez
Confirming this bug in 3.19.0-33-generic, and also with kernels
3.13.0-68-generic and 4.2.0-18-generic under Ubuntu 14.04.3 LTS, while
my TeVii S464 worked perfectly under Ubuntu 12.04.

Any solution or workaround would be very welcome.

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1311192] Re: [HP Pavilion p6352fr] Scrolling is jerky after suspend/resume

2014-05-09 Thread Jean Marc
The problem comes from dpm and Radeon HD4350 graphic card.
Unable to continue the Git process, I fixed the issue by adding a parameter in

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1311192] Re: [HP Pavilion p6352fr] Scrolling is jerky after suspend/resume

2014-05-07 Thread Jean Marc
Christopher, I made a mistake in the first bisect log. Here is the first part
of the new one called bisect log 2.
Only the first part because I'm stalled at the 7th step.
I can't check if the problem persists because now hard drive don't suspend with
that custom kernel.

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1311192] Re: [HP Pavilion p6352fr] Scrolling is jerky after suspend/resume

2014-05-03 Thread Jean Marc
Sorry Christopher but I'm definitely not a Git expert.

However, I tried different kernels of that page:
http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/?C=N;O=D

V3.12.18 kernel works.

The problem appears from V3.13-rc1 kernel.

I hope it could help.

notwork-manager doesn't get up after suspending whole system

Status in “linux” package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete

Bug description:
I recently upgraded from 13.04 to 13.10, and got this problem last two times

turned off, and connection being offline. With no apparent means to turn it
back on.
I can click on the option Network, but that does nothing.

  I use Ubuntu 13.10 64bit on a 5 year old Samsung R510 laptop.

Title:
  Network not working after sleep-mode

Status in “linux” package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete

Bug description:
After reactivating PC from Sleep-Mode or Hibernate-Mode there is no
networkconnection. All network-devices are listed as DEACTIVATED. Re-
ACTIVATING doesn't help. Only Soution is to reboot computer.

Only working workaround at this time is to send PC into sleep-mode via
  terminal using following code:

  dbus-send --system --print-reply \
  --dest=org.freedesktop.UPower \
  /org/freedesktop/UPower \
  org.freedesktop.UPower.Suspend

  Afterwards everything works fine.
