[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1881494] Re: [amdgpu] suspend to ram (standby) crashes amdgpu (Ryzen-7 Vega - HP Envy x360)
Reading the initial bug report I see kolAflash said > nomodeset seems to be essential, but not sufficient. When I added nomodeset to /etc/default/grub ( GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet splash nomodeset" ) then I can boot without issues, but suspend does not work. To reiterate: * the TTY1 screen is not blank on boot * sleep works * suspend does not work - you get this bug Given this error in syslog: > kernel: [0.047848] You have booted with nomodeset. This means your GPU > drivers are DISABLED > kernel: [0.047849] Unless you actually understand what nomodeset does, > you should reboot without enabling it > [0.047849] Any video related functionality will be severely degraded, and > you may not even be able to suspend the system properly > [0.047849] Unless you actually understand what nomodeset does, you should > reboot without enabling it I tried a few things without nomodeset in grub options. In this case: * the default screen, TTY1, (CTRL-ALT-F1) is blank on boot (or has the HP logo only) * sleep works * suspend doesn't seem to work. If you leave the laptop in suspend mode for a long time it does not resume. The screen is black with just a white underscore on it. The last log lines in /var/log/syslog is systemd[1]: Reached target Sleep. systemd[1]: Starting Suspend... systemd-sleep[8263]: Suspending system... kernel: [ 9425.088936] PM: suspend entry (s2idle) As a workaround for the default screen being blank on boot, you can go to TTY2 (CTRL-ALT-F2), log in and run startx from the command prompt. Some tests: * This does not seem to be the same issue as https://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=204241 because the following command works just fine. for i in $(seq 30); do sudo rtcwake -m mem -s 5; sleep 15; done * I've tried adding GRUB_GFXMODE=1920x1080 to /etc/default/grub but that doesn't seem to solve the issue with the screen on TTY1 being blank on boot. The commands pm-hibernate and pm-suspend give the errors in /var/log/syslog > [ 2566.154192] Lockdown: grep: hibernation is restricted; see man > kernel_lockdown.7 and nothing happens The command pm-powersave gives the same "hibernation is restricted" error in /var/log/syslog but the system goes blank and the is unresponsive. ** Bug watch added: Linux Kernel Bug Tracker #204241 https://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=204241 -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kernel Packages, which is subscribed to linux in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1881494 Title: [amdgpu] suspend to ram (standby) crashes amdgpu (Ryzen-7 Vega - HP Envy x360) Status in linux package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Bug description: suspend to ram crashes amdgpu. System is still accessible via SSH after resume from standby. Happens when X is running (gdm/gnome with 3d acceleration) and also when X is stopped. Also the computer never really goes into standby. The cpu fan is running all the time and the power button is fully lighted up. Nevertheless, I need to press CTRL to "wake" it, so I can access it via SSH. I'll attach the dmesg output of several attempts. This is the hardware: https://store.hp.com/GermanyStore/Merch/Product.aspx?id=9YN58EA=ABD=NTB Tested EFI and BIOS bootmode. Please let me know if I can help tracking this down. I'm a software developer (sadly not a kernel developer), so you can ask dirty technical questions ;-) Workaround: Enable hibernation (suspend to disk) and use instead of suspend to ram (standby). What didn't help: Kernel parameters: no_console_suspend nomodeset amdgpu.gpu_recovery=1 init_on_free=0 idle=nowait amd_iommu=flush echo mem > /sys/power/state systemctl start suspend.target echo 0 > /sys/power/pm_async Upgrading kernel from 5.4 to: 5.6.0-1010-oem Using the kernel parameters no_console_suspend nomodeset amdgpu.gpu_recovery=1 init_on_free=0 idle=nowait amd_iommu=flush and doing echo mem > /sys/power/state before suspend made the system acutally not crash. Nevertheless, the cpu fan and the power button stay full on/lighted. So the system doesn't really go to standby either. I'll try to find the minimal combination of kernel parameters. nomodeset seems to be essential, but not sufficient. Without nomodeset the system wakes again for a few seconds, but freezes a moment later (ssh still accessible). [Kernel-packages] [Bug 1888070] Re: latest update freezes system on boot
Neither 111 nor 109 kernel nor any older would work with a full boot into system. So I was advised to get rid of the amdgpu drivers and make sure the open source AMD drivers are installed. https://amdgpu-install.readthedocs.io/en/latest/install-installing.html #uninstalling-the-amdgpu-graphics-stack amdgpu-uninstall https://linuxconfig.org/how-to-install-the-latest-amd-radeon-drivers-on- ubuntu-18-04-bionic-beaver-linux sudo add-apt-repository ppa:oibaf/graphics-drivers sudo apt-get update sudo apt update && sudo apt -y upgrade Additionally I installed https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Kernel/LTSEnablementStack though I am not sure if I had to also use that. Possibly simply uninstalling the amdgpu drivers that are not compatible with the latest kernel and switching to the open source Mesa release drivers would also have been an option, though this is speculation. Regardless with the open source AMD drivers I do not have any AER issues (could also not get rid of those with pcie="noaer") and can enjoy a full boot into the system with latest kernel and all updates. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kernel Packages, which is subscribed to linux-meta in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1888070 Title: latest update freezes system on boot Status in linux-meta package in Ubuntu: New Bug description: Getting a lot of pcie errors when trying to do these updates. sudo apt update Get:1 file:/var/opt/amdgpu-pro-local ./ InRelease Ign:1 file:/var/opt/amdgpu-pro-local ./ InRelease Get:2 file:/var/opt/amdgpu-pro-local ./ Release [816 B] Get:2 file:/var/opt/amdgpu-pro-local ./ Release [816 B] Get:3 file:/var/opt/amdgpu-pro-local ./ Release.gpg Ign:3 file:/var/opt/amdgpu-pro-local ./ Release.gpg Hit:4 http://linux.teamviewer.com/deb stable InRelease Hit:5 http://ch.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu bionic InRelease Hit:6 http://ppa.launchpad.net/obsproject/obs-studio/ubuntu bionic InRelease Hit:7 http://ch.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu bionic-updates InRelease Hit:8 http://dl.google.com/linux/chrome/deb stable InRelease Hit:9 http://security.ubuntu.com/ubuntu bionic-security InRelease Hit:10 http://ch.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu bionic-backports InRelease Hit:11 https://download.docker.com/linux/ubuntu bionic InRelease Hit:12 https://deb.nodesource.com/node_11.x bionic InRelease Hit:13 https://packages.microsoft.com/repos/ms-teams stable InRelease Hit:14 https://packages.microsoft.com/repos/vscode stable InRelease Hit:15 https://packagecloud.io/slacktechnologies/slack/debian jessie InRelease Reading package lists... [Kernel-packages] [Bug 1438510] Re: [REGRESSION] bluetooth headset no longer supports a2dp
@karlgrz I saw the issues you were having and had recently just figured out the same work-around. Just as I was going to post it for you, I see that you too have narrowed it down to this repeatable behavior. For me however, I do not switch back to HSP, rather I turn the profile OFF in pavucontrol "configuration" tab. Then I disconnect the bluetooth using the its graphic interface. The next time I connect the bluetooth device, it connects just fine. Then I simply go to the config tab in pavucontrol to switch the device to A2DP sink. It works every time this way. In the past, switching the profile to OFF in pavucontrol prior to disconnecting the bluetooth device was unnecessary. I am currently running Kubuntu 16.04 LTS, but have had 16.04 installed since beta. This regression was not present for me in any previous versions. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kernel Packages, which is subscribed to bluez in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1438510 Title: [REGRESSION] bluetooth headset no longer supports a2dp Status in bluez package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Status in pulseaudio package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Status in bluez source package in Vivid: Confirmed Status in pulseaudio source package in Vivid: Confirmed Bug description: Just installed 15.04 fresh from the latest ISO (beta2). In 15.04, it only works in telephony duplex mode. I can't get high fidelity sound playback to work at all. [Kernel-packages] [Bug 1265883] Re: [PC HP Split 13-m103es x2] New Synaptics Touchpad v103S doesn't work
Hello, I have the same issue on my new Hybrid Ultrabook, the HP Spectre 13-h201ef x2 with a clean install of Ubuntu 14.04.1 64-b in dual boot with Windows 8.1 Update 1. Under Ubuntu, my Synaptics Touchpad doesn't work at all (No response from the Touchpad) and I referred to the following Ubuntu document: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingTouchpadDetection to try solving the issue but with no success. * DebuggingTouchpadDetection * In case your Touchpad doesn't work at all (No response from the Touchpad) This is generally a case of a kernel (linux) or xorg bug. Check by connecting an external mouse to see if that works or not. 2. If yes, execute at a terminal: cat /proc/bus/input/devices One should see: I: Bus=0011 Vendor=0002 Product=0007 Version=01b1 N: Name=SynPS/2 Synaptics TouchPad P: Phys=isa0060/serio2/input0 S: Sysfs=/devices/platform/i8042/serio2/input/input8 U: Uniq= H: Handlers=mouse2 event8 B: EV=b B: KEY=420 0 7 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 B: ABS=1103 If you do not find something like this (which is my case), then the bug is in the linux kernel. Please follow these steps: File the bug against the linux package. Provide the general information. Enter the following commands in a terminal: dmesg ~/dmesg cat /proc/bus/input/devices ~/devices Attach as separate attachments to your bug report ~/dmesg, ~/devices, and your /var/log/Xorg.0.log. Here attached the first dmesg file I have done on my HP Spectre 13 x2. The two other are following. My kernel version is 3.13.0-34-generic and my system is up to date. Thank you for your help. Cheers. [Kernel-packages] [Bug 1305522] Re: Backport Synaptics HID touchpad driver for 14.04
Hello to All, I have the same issue with my Synaptics touchap not working at all on a new and fresh install of Ubuntu 14.04-1 64-bit, dual boot with Windows 8.1, on my new Hybrid UltraBook - the HP Spectre 13 x2 (Intel Haswell). I have almost fixed the wifi stuff which was not working at all, and no wired Ethernet alternative on my PC, due to seems to be a misleading issue between acer-wmi and hp-wmi! I tried to issue an apport-collect 1305522 report as mentioned in the first post but I'm getting the following error window (in french): Vous n'avez pas rapporté ce problème ou n'y êtes pas abonné, ou le rapport est un doublon ou déjà fermé. Veuillez créer un nouveau rapport en utilisant « apport-bug ». So I'm requested to create a new report using apport-bug. But how to use this stuff? Thank you.
