[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1919285] Re: Nvidia kernel driver not loaded, low resolution and no acceleration, since kernel 5.8.0-45.51

2021-03-17 Thread Magnus Morton
I had uninstalled all the nvidia packages after encountering this.
Reinstalled this morning and the nvidia modules built and loaded
correctly.

I'm using a Ideapad 530s-14ARR, Linux version 5.0.3-050003-generic,
Ubuntu 18.04.

Followed #44's steps to install the i2c-amd-mp2 driver and now my
touchpad works.

2018-12-22 Thread Magnus Breder Birkenes
Everyone affected by this bug, please try 4.15.0-43. This fixes the
issue completely for me (without needing to blacklist mei).

This seems to have been the culprit:

https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1803942

System randomly hangs during suspend when mei_wdt is loaded (LP: #1803942)
 - SAUCE: base/dd: limit release function changes to vfio driver only

@ Nadi: God jul!

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1801743] Re: Suspend fails in Kubuntu 18.04 but works fine in Kubuntu 17.10

2018-12-16 Thread Magnus Breder Birkenes
I think I just found a solution! I just saw the following bug report
over at Redhat (https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1597481) and
this kernel.org report
(https://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=200455).

The bug seems to be related to recent changes in the module related to the
Intel Management Engine:
https://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/torvalds/linux.git/commit/?id=257355a44b9929e55d6fd47bfff66971dc4de948

I can confirm that blacklisting the mei_me module seems to resolve the
issue for my part!

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1801743] Re: Suspend fails in Kubuntu 18.04 but works fine in Kubuntu 17.10

2018-12-15 Thread Magnus Breder Birkenes
Thanks for this, nadi!

I applied your fix using a systemd service, and upon boot
/proc/acpi/wakeup now reports LID0 as disabled. Unfortunately, it still
does not work. The computer fails to wake up in most cases. I also tried
to disable the USB devices from waking up the device as well, but
without any success.

Still the only fix for me is returning to 4.15.0-34...

2018-12-08 Thread Magnus Breder Birkenes
Hei Nadi,

sorry, that was rather vague. Yes, by that I mean that it does wake up
from sleep, and it does wake up immediately when I open the lid. When
using 4.15.0-36 or later, on the other hand, sleep is not reliable. It
may work, but most times it does not.

2018-12-08 Thread Magnus Breder Birkenes
This bug affects me as well, on a Dell Latitude E7440 (is this a Dell
problem?). In my case, the bug started to appear with kernel 4.15.0-36
(and has been present in all later updates), both on 16.04 with the
latest HWE and now with 18.04. For the time being I am using kernel
4.15.0-34, which is stable.

This causes cloud-init to stall for a potentially long time during

  75 minutes.

I've tracked this down to the following import in templater.py which causes
the delay:
from jinja2 import Template as JTemplate

Which is called when cc_update_etc_hosts is imported.

problems booting kernel linux-image-4.15.0-24-generic in KVM/QEMU VM

Status in linux package in Ubuntu:

Bug description:
  Description: Ubuntu 18.04 LTS
  Release: 18.04

I've installed all the latest updates in my KVM/QEMU VM. After doing so I
can boot the 4.15.0-23-generic kernel just fine. When I try to boot the -24
kernel my system hangs. Once I try to boot the -24 kernel, I can no longer go
back and boot the -23 kernel. It hangs as well. I reverted to an older QeMU
snapshot and then I can boot the -23 kernel. Repeated again, and once I
attempt to boot the -24 kernel, can no longer boot older kernels, so it appears
that it is changing or damaging something on my system.

Hang looks like this. If I boot with quiet, splash and hit escape, I get an
error:
A start job is running for Hold until boot process finishes up (20s / no
limit)

If I remove quiet, splash option, I just get the following and the system is
hung, never gives login prompt:
[ OK ] Started Tool to automatically coolect and submit kernel crash
signatures
[ OK ] Started User Manager for UID 120.

Note, I have installed the 4.15.0-24-generic kernel directly on my host
system (Dell XPS 9360), and I don't have any problems with it there.

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1634449] Re: Black flicker when leaving monitor

2016-11-09 Thread Lars Magnus Herland
Asked for the 16.10 drivers from Intel and they are on it's way.
https://01.org/comment/2783
Hopefully this will fix some of the issues we are facing with this.

Title:
  Black flicker when leaving monitor

Status in linux package in Ubuntu:
  Triaged

Bug description:
Sometimes, when moving cursor from one monitor to the other, the
external monitor turns black and gets back on again.

The hardware is Dell Latitude E5470 with Docking Station and monitor
connected via DisplayPort (checked both ports and happens on both of
  them).

Everything worked correctly on Ubuntu 16.04, but it happens on Ubuntu
  16.10. Kernel 4.8.0-25-generic.

The bug isn't related to cursor only, if focus changes by alt+tab it
  sometimes happens as well.

  https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1553503 This is the same
bug as this one, but closed.

  Fix Released

Bug description:
When the mouse cursor leaves one of the screens, there is either :
  - no problem
  - the screen becomes black just below the position of the cursor and
instantly comes back to normal.
  - the screen becomes entirely black with some random colored pixels
flickering on the far left of the screen. I have to move the cursor to the
black screen, otherwise it stays black.

It happens on Ubuntu Gnome 16.04 Beta and Ubuntu Mate 16.04 Beta.
I have tested with other distributions (Debian Jessie and Fedora) and
everything is fine.

Hardware : Intel Ironlake (Thinkpad X201) with an external monitor
  plugged in.

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1448882] Re: Resume on Macbook Pro doesn't restart wireless connection

2015-07-29 Thread Magnus Hoff
I am experiencing the same problem on my 13 retina MacBook Pro
(MacBookPro10,2). I have discovered that things work better when using
the b43 module instead of wl to drive the wireless:

sudo rmmod wl ; sudo modprobe b43

However, this workaround makes the 5GHz networks disappear from my list.

Title:
Resume on Macbook Pro doesn't restart wireless connection

Status in linux package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
I've just installed Ubuntu GNOME 15.04 64bit on my Macbook Pro, and
everything seems to work great including suspend/resume, EXCEPT that
after I resume my wireless network does not start. When the system
first wakes up I very briefly see a ? icon for the wireless, then it
disappears and nothing is shown. If I click the system menu it says
  Wifi Not Connected.

If I run killall wpa_supplicant (which I found in the answer to this
  question in askubuntu: http://askubuntu.com/questions/456644/wireless-
  doesnt-reconnect-after-resuming-on-after-the-upgrade-to-ubuntu-14-04-o
) then wpa_supplicant is restarted automatically and when that happens
  my wifi comes back again.

Title:
[Acer Aspire V3-371] Sometimes, cursor jumps around if touchpad is in
  use

Status in linux package in Ubuntu:
  Triaged

Bug description:
If using the touchpad, the cursor jumps around on the screen. It seems
to me that there are also some events (like clicks) that get fired.

This issue can be worked around by disabling and enabling the touchpad
(pressing Fn+F7 twice) but it will reappear after a certain amount of
  time.

No, it's not supposed to be there by default. Just create a new file :)

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1307674] Re: Broadcom BCM57765/57785 SDXC/MMC Card Reader doesn't work for Ultra High Speed SD cards

2014-05-28 Thread Magnus Hoff
The mail was plaintext all along. It also seems that they discard too
large mails. I trimmed it down to 51KB by removing lots of less relevant
log data.

The report is now available here: http://www.mail-archive.com/linux-

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1307674] Re: Broadcom BCM57765/57785 SDXC/MMC Card Reader doesn't work for Ultra High Speed SD cards

2014-05-27 Thread Magnus Hoff
I created the report as specified and sent it to linux-
m...@vger.kernel.org three days ago. However, since then it has failed to
appear in the archives I have found (http://www.mail-archive.com/linux-
m...@vger.kernel.org/maillist.html,
http://dir.gmane.org/gmane.linux.kernel.mmc). I have not received an
error message via mail.

What is the accepted way to deal with this? Resend the mail?

The mail is 137KB in size. Not especially big for a mail with
attachments, but this is all body text. I am not sure if this affects
anything, but I thought it was worth mentioning.

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1307674] Re: Broadcom BCM57765/57785 SDXC/MMC Card Reader doesn't work for Ultra High Speed SD cards

2014-05-22 Thread Magnus Hoff
You have understood correctly. The mentioned patch did not change
anything, whether or not I engaged the workaround.

That said, to my eyes, the patch looks like it might be related. There
are some mentions of broadcom quirks and UHS mode in there. But the
bottom line is that I didn't experience any difference with the patch.

2014-05-22 Thread Magnus Hoff
Sure, I'm on it. It looks like I will have to allocate some time for it
later, though.

Thanks for helping me out with how to do the reporting :)

2014-05-20 Thread Magnus Hoff
I wasn't very clear: The mentioned kernel patch is a red herring, it did
not cause the changes I observed. I am currently using the stock ubuntu
kernel (3.13.0-24-generic) with the kernel module parameter, and the
workaround works :)

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1307674] Re: Broadcom BCM57765/57785 SDXC/MMC Card Reader doesn't work

2014-05-19 Thread Magnus Hoff
I have now applied the patch found here:
https://chromium.googlesource.com/chromiumos/third_party/kernel-
next/+/fd1acc54a6b3db4e6503ccc4a9349f28b436031a

The result is that I am successfully able to mount and use my SD card,
hooray!

dmesg output looks like this:

[ 77.803116] mmc0: Skipping voltage switch
[ 78.804834] mmc0: new high speed SDHC card at address 59b4
[ 78.808642] mmcblk0: mmc0:59b4 SD32G 29.5 GiB
[ 78.809606] mmcblk0: p1

It looks like I get a steady read rate of 20 MB/s. I *think* the
corresponding read rate I get in OS X is about 30 MB/s, which in any
event is what the SD card is advertised as supporting.

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1307674] Re: Broadcom BCM57765/57785 SDXC/MMC Card Reader doesn't work

2014-05-19 Thread Magnus Hoff
Ah, I was cheering prematurely, sorry.

It seems that the mentioned patch did not effect the observed change in
behavior, so presumably something has changed in the stock Ubuntu kernel
to do this.

The currently observed behavior with stock ubuntu (3.13.0-24-generic) as
well as my patched kernel (3.13.0-27-generic with patch) is the
following:

 1. After a reboot, I can plug in the card and stuff is working (automatic
mouting, etc)
 2. The transfer rate (for reading) seems to be capped at 20 MB/s (I tested
with the same rsync command in OS X, and got nearly 50 MB/s. The card is
advertised as 30 MB/s)
 3. After removing the card, subsequent inserts of the card do not work. I can
only use the card one time after a reboot.
 4. Similarly as 3., with system sleep. If I let the system sleep and then wake
it up, the card reader does not work.

Observations from dmesg:

When the reader works, I get the following messages in dmesg, which are
absent when the reader does not work: mmc0: Skipping voltage switch.
This is followed by mmc0: new high speed SDHC card at address 59b4.
Notice that the card is incorrectly recognized as high speed SDHC.

When the reader fails, I get the following mesages in dmesg, which are
absent when the reader does work: sdhci: Timeout waiting for Buffer
Read Ready interrupt during tuning procedure, falling back to fixed
sampling clock. This is followed by mmc0: new ultra high speed SDR104
SDHC card at address 59b4. Notice that this time, the card is correctly
identified as ultra high speed SDHC.

It looks like it might be the case that the driver fails if and only if
the card is ultra high speed, unless the driver mistakenly believes
that the card is merely high speed.

Is it possible to ask the driver to not attempt UHS mode?

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1307674] Re: Broadcom BCM57765/57785 SDXC/MMC Card Reader doesn't work

2014-05-19 Thread Magnus Hoff
Well. I've now added options sdhci debug_quirks2=4 to modprobe.d, and
this seems to make it treat the card as high speed rather than ultra
high speed, which works, although at a poorer speed than theoretically
possible.

I can attach and detach the card multiple times, and sleeping and waking
the computer does not introduce a problem.

I have no idea what I am doing, though.

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1307674] Re: Broadcom BCM57765/57785 SDXC/MMC Card Reader doesn't work

2014-04-16 Thread Magnus Hoff
I have tested with 3.15.0-031500rc1, as requested and it did not fix the
problem. It did not change user observed behaviour either.

However, it *did* change stuff that appears in dmesg.

Rebooting with irqpoll as a kernel argument as suggested by dmesg
output did not affect the issue.

Title:
  Broadcom BCM57765/57785 SDXC/MMC Card Reader doesn't work

Status in “linux” package in Ubuntu:

Bug description:
I have a Broadcom BCM57765/57785 SDXC/MMC Card Reader internally in my
MacBook Pro Retina 13, and it does not work.

This is pretty much a duplicate of
  https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1067222 as
requested by Christopher M. Penalver (penalvch).

None of the suggested workarounds in the linked bug work for me. Some
people can work around this bug by plugging something into the
ethernet port corresponding to the PCI device in question, but this
machine does not have such an ethernet port exposed. The chip seems to
be here only for the SD card reader.

sudo apt-get install -f
sudo apt-get clean
sudo apt-get update

fixed the problem for the noob.

What actually does install -f do

Thanks

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1251441] Re: Stylus input stops working after resuming from suspend

2013-11-24 Thread Magnus Bakken
As mentioned in the previous comment I have the same problem on 13.10 with a
Thinkpad X201T.
I tried to get it working after suspend following some parts of the guide at:
http://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.php?f=42t=96247
First, following a fresh restart, I found that the wacom input attaches to
/dev/ttyS4
grep -i 'wacom' /var/log/syslog

Nov 24 13:02:59 thinkmag kernel: [ 15.992529] input: Wacom Serial
Penabled 2FG Touchscreen as
/devices/pnp0/00:09/tty/ttyS4/serio2/input/input15

After a suspend - wake up, functionality is gone.
wacom devices are missing when I list them with the command:
xinput

However, the command:
inputattach --w8001 /dev/ttyS4
run as root restores touchscreen functionality following a suspend.
After that I used the answer given in:
http://askubuntu.com/questions/303113/problem-running-a-script-after-resume
to make a workaround.

Perhaps this can be of some use in solving the problem.
