[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1630906] Re: QML segfault on arm64 due to builder kernel change

2016-10-06 Thread Michael Zanetti
This happens in launchpad builders. I don't think it is possible for us
to log in and run apport-collect. Also there are many logs linked in the
bug description. Putting back to Confirmed.

Bug description:
Builders were changed from wily to xenial (4.4) kernel for arm64, and
likely due to this the following kind of errors started happening:

  https://launchpadlibrarian.net/288487533/buildlog_ubuntu-yakkety-arm64
  .ubuntu-push-qml_0.1+15.10.20150826.1-0ubuntu2_BUILDING.txt.gz

They happen when executing QML code.

I've ruled out that reverting to previous qtbase and qtdeclarative
versions don't affect this, so it's not coming from a Qt change. I've
also verified there's no problem eg on our Bq tablet running the same
tests on xenial+overlay. There are currently no found changes at least
in Qt upstream to backport arm64 related fixes.

Cause is unknown. But the same problem is there on vivid, xenial and yakkety
builds:

https://launchpadlibrarian.net/288516465/buildlog_ubuntu-yakkety-arm64.online-accounts-api_0.1+16.10.20161006.1-0ubuntu1_BUILDING.txt.gz

This means it does not matter if it's Qt 5.4 or 5.6, GCC 4.9, 5 or 6,
  or glibc 2.21, 2.23 or 2.24.

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1398193] Re: The bluetooth headset can not control the media playback

2016-08-31 Thread Michael Zanetti
I have tracked this down to mpris-proxy not being able to connect to
media-hub because of GetProperties seemingly being broken in media-hub.
Once this is fixed, I think both, controls and metadata should start
working. See bug 1596330 for more details.

As of Bluez5, AVRCP does not inject keypresses any more, but bluez
connects to MPRIS.

The issue is either in our bluez setup or the media-hub mpris interface

2015-11-30 Thread Michael Zanetti
As this probably won't ever get fixed, just some hint for affected
people that the above package won't compile against xenial's 4.2 kernel.
However, you can get working wifi in xenial by downgrading to kernel
3.19 and using Gerry's package above.

Confirming that Gerry's package works fine for me on my home wifi

network (large office) I had some system lockups with the forward-ported

  3) What is expected to happen is when one uses the bcmwl-kernel-source
package in 14.10, it works on both 2.5Ghz and 5Ghz.

  4) What happens instead is after upgrading to saucy or any newer
  release and installing bcmwl-kernel-source =6.30.223.30+bdcom-
0ubuntu1 it fails to find any 5GHz networks and connections on 2.5GHz
  are unstable.

Unfortunately, while b43 does detect the chip, it only uses 2.4GHz and
it has very slow data rates and connection drops.

WORKAROUND: This chip is working perfectly fine on 2.5GHz and 5GHz
using version 6.20.155.1+bdcom-0ubuntu6 of the driver.

Downgrading the machine to kernel 3.8.x and bcmwl-kernel-source
6.20.155.1+bdcom-0ubuntu6 (both from raring) makes the chip work again.
UPDATE: Up to kernel 3.13.0-23 a patched working package of
bcmwl-kernel-source 6.20.155.1+bdcom-0ubuntu6 here:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/bcmwl/+bug/1387221/+attachment/4249077/+files/bcmwl-kernel-source_6.20.155.1%2Bbdcom-0ubuntu6_amd64.deb
Currently there is no way to have utopic with an up to date kernel and
properly working BCM4331 chip at the same time.

Looking at the changelog its most likely caused by the update to the
new upstream release in version 6.30.223.30+bdcom.

@Christoper: This is a valid bug. The fact that it hasn't been fixed in
1.5 years doesn't make it invalid. By closing this and invalid and
making me create a new one you just drop useful information, delete
hottness and exclude subscribers from progress on the new bug. Not the
way to go imo

Hi Christoper,

This is a MacBook Pro Retina 1st Generation, but I know of people with
non-retina MacBooks and the same chip, having the same problem.

2) The workaround requires downgrading the kernel, pinning of the old
driver version, will break things like overlayfs etc. I don't think a
click-for-click tutorial is useful here. Someone not knowing what's
going on will inevitably mess up his Ubuntu installation with this
anyways. For advanced users/developers, I think the current instructions
are good enough.

3) No, b43 doesn't work for this chip either. I does detect the chip,
but again only 2.4GHz and very slow data rates and connection drops.

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1355152] [NEW] Can't pair any Bluetooth audio device with Ubuntu Touch

2014-08-11 Thread Michael Zanetti
Public bug reported:

I tried pairing several devices with my Ubuntu Touch device. All of them
fail:

* Nokia-BH 503 (HFP + A2DP + AVRCP)
* Nokia-BH 905i (HFP + A2DP + AVRCP)
* Latest BMW infotainment system (HFP)

All of those devices are found during inquiry. Trying to pair them
causes the PIN entry popup to appear on the phone, however, after
confirming that it just sits there and waits forever, never completing
the pairing process.

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1189611] Re: bcmwl-kernel-source 6.30.223.30+bdcom-0ubuntu1 fails to see 5GHz networks and is unstable on 2.5GHz

2014-06-20 Thread Michael Zanetti
Just an update: Nickolay's patched 6.20.155.1 package doesn't compile
against kernel 3.15 any more. So atm you either want to stay on a lower
kernel version or you'll be left with broken/bad WiFi on that chip.

Anyone got the time to try updating 6.20 for the latest kernel sources?

0ubuntu1 it fails to find any 5GHz networks and connections on 2.5GHz
  are unstable.

Downgrading the saucy machine to kernel 3.8.x and bcmwl-kernel-source
6.20.155.1+bdcom-0ubuntu6 (both from raring) makes the chip work
  again.

Downgrading just the kernel to 3.8 and keeping bcmwl-kernel-source at
version 6.30.223.30+bdcom-0ubuntu1 does NOT fix the issue.

Looking at the changelog its most likely caused by the update to the
  new upstream release.

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1189611] Re: bcmwl-kernel-source 6.30.223.30+bdcom-0ubuntu1 fails to see 5GHz networks and is unstable on 2.5GHz

2014-02-17 Thread Michael Zanetti
No, seems it isn't fixed. I still need to manuall install Nickolay's
package posted above to have working and reliable WiFi with the BCM4331
every time I upgrade my kernel.

Bug description:
using ubuntu touch image 82 i see the session init consume about 10MB per
minute as long as the screen is on with Mir.
running the same session with surfaceflinger only consumes 1MB per minute.

in both cases the system starts to swap heavily at some point, making
  the UI unresponsive.

http://paste.ubuntu.com/6196223/ has the top output of a Mir session
after 30min, the UI just got completely unresponsive when this
  snapshot was taken.

http://paste.ubuntu.com/6196332/ is the top output of a surfaceflinger
session where the screen was off for about 10min

apparently the leak only occurs while the screen is on, it seems to be
permanently there but in the case of surfaceflinger it hits less hard.

Thanks a lot Nickolay,

Yes, your package seems to work fine with 3.10.0-6-generic on amd64.

Would it be possible for you to upload a package somewhere?
