[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1818134] Re: modprobe: ERROR: could not insert 'wl': Package not installed ubuntu14.04.5LTS kernel 3.13.0-165-generic

2019-07-06 Thread Niklas Holm
To be clear, my issue was on the 3.13 kernel line, which is supported.
Not that it matters for me anymore because I've since upgraded to 18.04
for which doesn't have this issue.

Expected behavior: kernel module wl.ko loads.
  What happened: finit_module returns ENOPKG

  My device is: BCM4352 [14e4:43b1] (rev 03)

Happened after latest OS update, downgrading kernel to 164 did not
fix, downgrading package did not work.

  secure boot mode is off.

A few others are having this issue
  https://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=2413303

There is a possibility it is a modaliases problem -- 2015 chagelog
states that there was a capitalization problem, but I don't know how
  to check this.

I would rather not have to deliberately bring my system to a broken
state just to run apport-collect. Is there anything else I can do?

2019-03-13 Thread Niklas Holm
I have the same problem with the nvidia driver. Updated shim-signed +
dkms installed a while ago, worked fine until kernel upgrade triggered
dkms rebuild, then the nvidia driver failed to load, "modprobe: ERROR:
could not insert 'nvidia': Package not installed". Uninstalling shim-
signed, downgrading dkms and reinstalling the drivers solved my issue.

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1508978] [NEW] Logitech Unifying Device not detected

2015-10-22 Thread Niklas Holm
Public bug reported:

So,

My wireless Logitech keyboard with unified receiver is not working
(again!) after installing the Vivid LTS Enablement Stack on Trusty, thus
stepping up from kernel 3.13.0-65-generic to 3.19.0-31-generic.

I got stuck at the LUKS-prompt, so I rebooted in text-mode (it works
fine in the GRUB menu); when I removed the USB receiver and reinsert
it, I get this output:

[ 89.250799] usb 1-10: new full-speed USB device number 3 using xhci_hcd
[ 89.380936] usb 1-10: New USB device found, idVendor=046d, idProduct=c52b

HID v1.11 Device [Logitech USB Reciever] on usb-:00:14.0-10/input2

And nothing. Keyboard doesn't work.

After rebooting to 3.13, this is what I can see in dmesg:

[1.464976] usb 3-10: new full-speed USB device number 2 using xhci_hcd
[1.483387] usb 3-10: New USB device found, idVendor=046d, idProduct=c52b

It seems to me that the Logitech driver does not detect the unifying
device or the keyboard correctly in 3.19, as it does in 3.13.

This is not the first time this happens, there's a patch that has been
applied and reverted several times, now it seems someone messed up AGAIN
somewhere between 3.13 and 3.19.

It seems to me that the Logitech driver does not detect the unifying

This is not the first time this happens, there's a patch that has been
applied and reverted several times, now it seems someone messed up

  Logitech Unifying Device not detected

Bug description:
  So,

My wireless Logitech keyboard with unified receiver is not working
(again!) after installing the Vivid LTS Enablement Stack on Trusty,
thus stepping up from kernel 3.13.0-65-generic to 3.19.0-31-generic.

I got stuck at the LUKS-prompt, so I rebooted in text-mode (it works
fine in the GRUB menu); when I removed the USB receiver and reinsert

This is not the first time this happens, there's a patch that has been
