[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1852493] Re: Freeze on suspend (Acer SF314-57)

2020-11-13 Thread Norbert Lanzenberger
What I forgot to add, with Windows the notebook sometimes does not want
to go to sleep. It turns the screen off, but stays running in idle
(keyboard light is on, fan is slightly audible). It did this right after
I installed Windows and all necessary drivers, but before I even
installed a single program.

Even now, it happens about every other time I want to suspend the
notebook. Maybe there's something wrong with the chipset of this model.
Acer support was not able to help me.

Title:
  Freeze on suspend (Acer SF314-57)

Status in linux package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
I freshly installed Ubuntu Budgie 19.10 today after receiving my new
notebook. However, when putting the system to suspend (or hibernate),
the screen goes off and the system freezes. The fan keeps running,
keyboard backlight and power led are on. Sometimes, when pressing a
button, I can get the screen to turn back on, but its frozen as well
(no mouse movement, clock stuck etc.)

So far I tried increasing the swap file size, however this did not
help. I also livebooted Ubuntu 19.10 and tried suspend, but I had the
  same issue.

Could this be a problem of my fairly new chipset (Intel i7 1065G7)?

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1852493] Re: Freeze on suspend (Acer SF314-57)

2020-11-13 Thread Norbert Lanzenberger
As said before, after switching to deep suspend it was working.

Due too homeschooling, I unfortunately had to install Windows on my
machine :( , so I can't give you an update how it's working with 20.10.

I did have Ubuntu 20.04 installed, but it did not bring any improvements
to the issue. As soon as I can become a full time Linux user again, imma
install Ubuntu and update you guys.

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1852493] Re: Freeze on suspend (Acer SF314-57)

2019-12-17 Thread Norbert Lanzenberger
@Kedar No, I only tried this with a vanila 19.10 kernel.

cat /sys/power/mem_sleep
s2idle [deep]

Do you mean you don't even get the s2idle option when you run the
command or was deep selected by default?

@Kai-Heng I will try 5.5 Kernel on the weekend and will get back to you.

BTW, how do you make codeblocks in this forum?

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1852493] Re: Freeze on suspend (Acer SF314-57)

2019-12-16 Thread Norbert Lanzenberger
Sry, I kinda always forgot to update you guys.

The mainline kernel 5.4 did nothing for me as well. However, switching
to deep suspend as suggested by Iulian Blajut did work for me.

Maybe a potential workaround, until the real reason why s2idle does not
work is found, could be to enable deep suspend by default for the
affected systems/chipsets.

2019-11-15 Thread Norbert Lanzenberger
I uploaded an apport report as requested from the automatic mail.
However, the report was created before I tried to suspend the system,
because once the system is frozen, I obviously cant create an error
report.

** Changed in: linux (Ubuntu)
   Status: Incomplete => Confirmed
