My computer was under warranty (brand new) so I had the keyboard/trackpad replaced. Never had any problems since. (I actually recorded a short film with my phone of me pressing buttons and the mouse clicking just in case I would have to demonstrate to some technician, but I never had to. It's a

I have tested upstream kernel v4.16-rc4 and can confirm the problem persists. However I managed to borrow another Latitude E7440 and for the time I had access to that laptop I could not reproduce the problem. Therefore I have to conclude that it is a hardware problem, not a software one. -- You
