3.13.0-149-generic: suspend/resume issue

On my laptop MSI GE40 (MS-1492) with Ubuntu 14.04.5 LTS and kernel
3.13.0-149-generic resuming after a suspend no longer works. It hangs on
a blank screen and is unresponsive. The only option is to hold the power
button for 6 seconds to shut it down. It worked fine on
3.13.0-1

My SD card reader stopped working a few releases back. This never
bothered me as I rarely used it, but a need has arisen for me to be
using it a lot in the future which leaves me stuck with it not working.
Issue
When I plug a SD card into the reader it does not get mounted an
ional freezes, but that averaged once every 3
months or so. Now it happens once every three days.

Since upgrading from 10.04 to 12.04, my server suffers from frequent
freezes. I have been unable to find a pattern and the freeze 'behaviour'
is not always the same: usually the system does not respond at all
anymore, and sometimes an error message is printed to the console:

I looked closely into the bios and changed some things. But the problem remains
unchanged.
Also I tried with Kubuntu 12.03 64 bit. To my surprise it gave no problems
related to suspension.

I'm sorry, but I can't use apport. When I try to install python-launchpadlib on
my Trusty Tahr Kubuntu 64 bit it wants to uninstall practically the whole
system.
I just tested and the problem is still there. Also I would like to mention that
it takes longer than a minute for the desktop to appea
