Title:
Black screen after wake from S3 suspend on Nvidia proprietary driver
  redux

Status in linux package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed
Status in nvidia-graphics-drivers-515 package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
When resuming from suspend in Ubuntu 22.04 with proprietary Nvidia
driver 515, screen is black, and never changes after 10 minutes of
  waiting.

However journalctl shows activity after wake (see attached log
excerpt, where wake occurs around Nov 20 10:28:37 with black screen,
followed by forced REISUB reboot a couple minutes later when screen
failed to update). This makes me think the issue is around Nvidia
  driver <-> Linux kernel communication.

  I [previously
  reported](https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1987134)
similar black screen after wake behavior that seemed resolve with a
Linux kernel update, but subsequent Linux kernel and Nvidia driver
updates steadily regressed back to the previous behavior. The most
recent kernel update from a few days ago (5.15.0-53-generic) never
wakes from suspend (so far out of 5 trials). Previous few kernels
where regression was first noticed it was 50/50 odds of successful
wake, so most recent kernel is a noticeable regression.

Important note: most recent kernel (5.15.0-53) upgrade freezed system
mid-upgrade (first time this has happened to me on Linux in at least 5
years!). Damaged GRUB and Nvidia DKMS, requiring reinstallation of
GRUB, the kernel, Nvidia drivers, and a GRUB update (in that order).

2019-06-11 Thread Raphael Mankin
Further to my previous note, trying to unlock the swap partition yields:

# udisksctl unlock -b /dev/sda2
Object /org/freedesktop/UDisks2/block_devices/sda2 is not an encrypted device.

If I leave the machine for a while and the exit the shell it boots, but
with no swap.

I have not discovered anything useful that I can do while in the
busybox shell.

I have dited /etc/initramfs-tools/conf.d/resume to read RESUME=none as
suggested in
https://www.reddit.com/r/Ubuntu/comments/a0whdw/failed_to_connect_to_lvmetad_bug_still_exists/

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1831232] [NEW] Ubuntu 18.04 won't boot - failed to connect to lvmetad

2019-05-31 Thread Raphael Mankin
Public bug reported:

This bug report relates to a machine running 18.04, not the one I am
submitting the report from.

On 30 May The Software Updater prompted me to update. Included in the
update were initramfs components. I now cannot boot the machine.

After decrypting the root file system, instead of being prompted for the
pass-phrase to decrypt the swap, I get the message "cannot connect to
lvmetad: falling back to device scanning". This repeats for a while
until I am dropped into a recovery shell of some sort from which I
cannot access the root disk.

Blocker. My machine is unusable.

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1581088] Re: Middle mouse (wheel-click) button stopped working after upgrade to 16.04

2017-12-03 Thread Raphael Mankin
I have two machines, both running xubuntu. They use the same keyboard
and mouse interfaced through a kvm.

The machine upgraded from 14.10 to 16.04 works fine.

The machine with a clean 16.04 fails. xev shows no middle button, but
the wheel works fine.

Both are fully updated.

shows other button clicks and scroll wheel up/down events.

Recovery from 'display cannot be detected' does not work properly

Status in linux package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
This morning I got a 'display cannot be determined' popup when I
booted. On hitting Enter I got another popup with a menu prompting for
an action. However I had no mouse pointer and the keyboard did not
respond to Space, Tab, arrows or Enter so I could not actually make a
choice. Hitting Escape got me out of it and the machine continued its
boot sequence, but with errors and without a display manager.

After logging in on a text console I ran 'startx' with no problems.

Why I got the error in the first place is another question. It is possible
that I did not switch on the monitor early enough :-)

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1488422] ProcCpuinfo.txt

Title:

Severity: not something that a newbie would be able to handle.

boot sequence, but with errors and without a display manager.

After logging in on a text console I ran 'startx' with no problems.

Why I got the error in the first place is another question. It is possible
that I did not switch on the monitor early enough :-)

Severity: not something that a newbie would be able to handle.
