Title:
  ubuntu 20.04 frozen randomly

Status in linux package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
I am using Ubuntu 20.04 (dual boot with windows 10) on Dell vostro
7500, the whole system crashes randomly, the symptom is the whole
screen frozen, the time on the screen is stuck, mouse cannot move,
keyboard input is invalid. I think it is a kernel crash because sysrq
does not work, which works in normal time, and /var/log/syslog
contains no lines after the crash.

I tried reinstalling the os and switching my kernel version from
5.4.0-58-generic to 5.4.0-42-generic, but the problem persists. The
frequency of crashing is one time per week before reinstalling and one
  time per day after reinstalling.

  https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1798961 described
the same problems as me but it is about 18.10 and is closed.

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1686189] Re: External monitor connecting problem on Intel graphics card

2017-06-30 Thread Shay Perlstein
@Giacomo Orlandi, I experience what you describe since day one with
Ubuntu 16.04 (DELL + USB DOCK). My work around is to disable the
flickering screen and revert the settings.

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1686189] Re: External monitor connecting problem on Intel graphics card

2017-06-09 Thread Shay Perlstein
NVidia setup is also including a second intel card (for power saving
mode), but yes I mainly try to use NVidia profile (kernel used to
complain about the intel card just like it is in your case).

Secondly not only 4.4.0-72-generic is working also 4.10.1-041001-generic
does very good job.

As for last, as mentioned above I also use the DELL dock.

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1686189] Re: External monitor connecting problem on Intel graphics card

2017-06-08 Thread Shay Perlstein
I jumped to 4.10.1-041001-generic since I failed to go back to 4.4.0-72 which
used to work, everything is working again as it should without any problem, I
am now using the latest nvidia driver 381.22 (, also 378.13 worked perfectly
fine).
The kernel version definitely makes a difference

BTW on 4.4.0-79 the log error has disappeared but the issue still
exists, I tested 4.4.0-79 with both nvidia and Nouveau drivers.

Same thing here, 4.4.0-78 does not solve the problem at all, I barely
can work, is there going to be any attempt to fix this soon?

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1567417] Re: WARN_ON(!wm_changed) skl_update_other_pipe_wm+0x16c/0x180 [i915_bpo]

2017-05-17 Thread Shay Perlstein
I have the same problem using precision 5510 + Dell dock, used to have
perfectly working 3 monitors setup, which no longer works after the latest
update (4.4.0-77-generic).
I can no longer use 3 screen setup, 2 monitors setup is barely working and I
often need to reset it after boot, reordering the screen is also impossible.
I tried that with Nvidia latest drivers, with/without intel profile and the
open source driver, got the same results.

here is the log message:
