[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1049630]
Oh, wow! patch in attachment 89886 seems to fix this issue for me. Today is thanksgiving here in the USA. I am thankful for open source radeon drivers. I am thankful for your efforts, Alex Deucher. This would confirm that it is a bogus BIOS setting where the bios reports 384, but it is actually only 256. I tried something similar on my own earlier, but I did not understand the memory layout well enough to know to adjust the base address. Thank you for trying yet again to fix this, Alex. I am testing now. Anyone else on this bug able to test this proposed fix? [Kernel-packages] [Bug 1049630]
I just had time to try this latest patch. Unfortunately it does not correct the issue. Is there any way to check or change the beginning and ending addresses of sideport memory and stolen system memory once the system is up? If there are registers I can read or write to experiment I will be happy to try it,but I am afraid I was unable to comprehend a lot of the register documentation from AMD. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kernel Packages, which is subscribed to linux in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1049630 Title: gnome-shell weird lines Status in The Linux Kernel: Confirmed Status in “linux” package in Ubuntu: Triaged Bug description: In gnome-shell font are corrupted and are present weird lines. There is a memory corruption issue that affects users of the rs690m, to varying degrees. For many most people, it makes the desktop unusable. Workaround: *Note: This is a workaround, not a fix. It will give you a usable system. [Natty]: Regression: This workaround now only provides 2d/software rendering, and one must either: * Choose choose the Ubuntu Classic session from the GDM Login screen or * Install the unity-2d package. [code] sudo su echo options radeon modeset=0 /etc/modprobe.d/radeon-kms.conf exit [/code] Note that this doesn't totally fix the issue, but brings your desktop to a workable state. Freedesktop.org has dealt with one bug having to do with graphics corruption on the rs690m. That bug has been fixed, but the issue of graphics corruption in general has not been resolved. A new bug has been opened with freedesktop.org to continue pushing through the resolution of this issue.
