[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1947618] Re: [i915] CPU locks up on Ubuntu 21.10 boot when 2 displays are connected
Confirmed, my system boots fine when that second monitor isn't plugged in. I removed the bluetooth driver as well, but that didn't fix it. This is the adapter I'm using (I believe): https://us.amazon.com/NiaoChao-Adapter-Charging-Compatible-MacBook/dp/B08CRXD22M I have a bunch of USBC / HDMI adapters around, so maybe other ones won't halt the boot. The kernel I'm running: 5.13.0-41-generic #46~20.04.1-Ubuntu SMP Wed Apr 20 13:16:21 UTC 2022 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kernel Packages, which is subscribed to linux in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1947618 Title: [i915] CPU locks up on Ubuntu 21.10 boot when 2 displays are connected Status in linux package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Bug description: I've updated from 21.04 to 21.10 and that bug has appeared in kernel 5.13.0-19. [Kernel-packages] [Bug 1947618] Re: [i915] CPU locks up on Ubuntu 21.10 boot when 2 displays are connected
I'm seeing the same thing with 20.04 when running any of the 5.13 kernels. Last tested with 5.13.0-41. My setup is an ASUS Hero XIII motherboard. Monitor plugged in, with a second monitor plugged in via a USB / HDMI adapter (not sure if that is relevant) I had to remove iwlwifi-ty-a0-gf-a0.pnvm and iwlwifi- ty-a0-gf-a0-63.ucode to get wifi to work, but the boot hangs with any 5.13 kernels. [Kernel-packages] [Bug 1869062] Re: Acer Aspire 7715 microphone not detected
NOTE: I am NOT the originator of this bug report, but have a similar(? identical?) problem. My machine is an Acer Aspire E17 E5-722-425Q, and the built-in microphone (and also the mouse pad) has never(?) been detected. (Since I use a USB mouse and a USB headset-with-microphone, neither problem has ever bothered me in the slightest.) Sometimes, the built-in WiFi is not detected (as is the case at the moment), and, usually, the built-in Bluetooth is not detected (also the case at the moment). However, I *have* observed that, at least in the case of the WiFi (the Bluetooth is not-so-clear) it seems to be related to the temperature (especially the external (ambient, i.e., room temperature)). Whilst no measurements have been made, if the ambient temperature is sufficiently cool (cold, actually, PROBABLY less than 10 degrees Celsius (estimated)), the WiFi is frequently detected. When it is warm, it is much more hit-and-miss. (There are some circumstantial reasons to think, for both the WiFi and Bluetooth (both are USB), that if there certain unclear external USB devices are also attached when the system is booted, than one or both is detected. Apologies for being quite vague here, I have never tried to confirm or characterise this incidental observation.) Attached is the RAW report generated by apport-cli(1); I do not know how to automagically append it to a bug which I did not originally create. [Kernel-packages] [Bug 1841040] Re: r8169 ethernet sometimes doesn't work after cold boot/boot
Make sure your unit really is an r8169, and not an r8168. Whilst (as I understand it) the r8169 module is supposed to work with an r8168, at least on my laptop (Acer Aspire E17 (E5-722-425Q), currently 18.04 (up-to-date)), using the r8169 module has resulted in "flakely" behaviour for as long as I can remember, including becoming unusable after a (some?) warm reboot. (Sorry, I cannot recall any specific details, albeit I vaguely recall that was not the only problem I had.) Using the r8168 dkms module, there has not been any(?) problems. However, I believe the r8168 module (in package `r8168-dkms') is specific to r8168 hardware and will not work with an r8169 unit. Using `lspci' my r8168 is listed as: Ethernet controller: Realtek Semiconductor Co., Ltd. RTL8111/8168/8411 PCI Express Gigabit Ethernet Controller (rev 12) -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kernel Packages, which is subscribed to linux in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1841040 Title: r8169 ethernet sometimes doesn't work after cold boot/boot Status in linux package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Bug description: Whenever the computer is rebooted there is a roughly 50% chance that the r8169 ethernet cannot negotiate a link. There is no relevant information in dmesg except for the "link down" message. The work around is to just keep rebooting the computer until it eventually works; sometimes this may take up to 7 reboots. The first set of attached log files were generated while the ethernet was working. The second set are generated on the 5.0 HWE kernel when the ethernet was NOT working. Note that this is a regression. Ubuntu 16.04 ran on this computer for three years without the ethernet doing this even once. Unloading and loading the r8169 module will eventually make it work. [Kernel-packages] [Bug 362875] Re: rt2x00usb_vendor_request: Error - Vendor Request 0x07 failed for offset
I have experienced this bug on a non Ubuntu system for some time. I spent some time comparing the SparkLAN DPO driver source with the main line kernel driver source and tried a couple of changes. 1) There were some places missing a lock (this change did not affect this bug, however). 2) The DPO driver performed the 32-bit register writes as two 16-bit single write commands instead of one four byte multi-write command. I suspected that this might lead to race conditions setting the registers (not atomic) which was causing the Wi-Fi chip to hang. I thought it possible that the Wi-Fi chip firmware might buffer the two 16-bit single writes and then perform a single 32-bit write to the register, thus making it atomic. I asked SparkLAN about this, but received no reply. Note that the DPO driver performs the 32-bit register reads as a single four byte multi-read, just like the main line kernel driver does. I tested the following patch and the problem went away, either because it fixes the issue or it changes the timing to cover it up. Perhaps a distinction without a difference. ** Attachment added: "rt2x00usb.pat" https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/362875/+attachment/4957754/+files/rt2x00usb.pat -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kernel Packages, which is subscribed to linux in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/362875 Title: rt2x00usb_vendor_request: Error - Vendor Request 0x07 failed for offset Status in linux package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Status in rt2x00 package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Bug description: Binary package hint: linux-firmware Dear friends, [24225.012753] phy2 -> rt2x00usb_vendor_request: Error - Vendor Request 0x07 failed for offset 0x308c with error -71. [Kernel-packages] [Bug 1581777] Re: igb transmit queue times out
52f518a3a7c2f80551a38d38be28bc9f335e713c is the first bad commit Full bisect log attached. A couple of notes: 1. Often the bug is not reproduced the first time the system is booted with a given kernel version. Subsequent boots reproduce the bug. 2. In order to get bootable kernels from commit 9dda1658a9bd450d65da5153a2427955785d17c2 and onwards during bisecting I had to manually apply commit 425be5679fd292a3c36cb1fe423086708a99f11a. Otherwise the system gets stuck on "Loading initial ramdisk". -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kernel Packages, which is subscribed to linux in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1581777 Title: igb transmit queue times out Status in linux package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Bug description: Using an Intel I210AT built-in PCI-E NIC passed through from the ESXi 6 host to an Ubuntu 16.04 server virtual machine. [Kernel-packages] [Bug 1374965] Re: nvidia-setting crashes on startup
The bug appears to be a crash when unloading the vdpau library, either via a dl_close() or dl_fini() call. It also affects any application using the vdpau library, such as mplayer and mythfrontend. A backtrace from mythfrontend follows: mythfrontend crash details: *** Error in `/usr/bin/mythfrontend.real': free(): invalid pointer: 0x7ffe734bc623 *** Program received signal SIGABRT, Aborted. 0x73352bb9 in __GI_raise (sig=sig@entry=6) at ../nptl/sysdeps/unix/sysv/linux/raise.c:56 56../nptl/sysdeps/unix/sysv/linux/raise.c: No such file or directory.
