[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1254131] Re: [Dell Latitude D505] Lubuntu suspend via lid close causes freeze

2014-04-21 Thread kalehrl
I'm afraid that's way over my head. Furthermore, since I'm not sure when the
freeze started to occur, I may as well waste a lot of effort for nothing.
The workaround seems to do its job although I would like to be able to choose
whether I want to just turn off screen or suspend the laptop when I close the
lid.
Thank you very much for your help.

Title:
[Dell Latitude D505] Lubuntu suspend via lid close causes freeze

Status in “linux” package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
I have a Dell latitude d505 laptop running Lubuntu 13.10. When I close
the lid, the screen becomes blank and the mouse cursor freezes and
can't be moved. The backlight is still on but the system is completely
unresponsive. I can't even ssh into the laptop to shut it down
properly but have to pull the plug. I tried changing the options in
xfce-power-manager to disable suspend but to no avail. I also tried
editing the /etc/systemd/logind.conf but nothing worked.

WORKAROUND: Suspend via logout menu, or keyboard shortcut first, then
  shut the lid.

Title:
   Lubuntu 13.10 lid close freeze

Status in “linux” package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete

Bug description:
I have a Dell latitude d505 laptop running Lubuntu 13.10.
When I close the lid, the screen becomes blank and the mouse cursor freezes
and can't be moved.
The backlight is still on but the system is completely unresponsive.
I can't even ssh into the laptop to shut it down properly but have to pull
the plug.
When I go to suspend from the logout menu, it suspends fine and I can close
the lid and when I lift it it wakes properly.
I tried changing the options in xfce-power-manager to disable suspend but to
no avail.
I also tried editing the /etc/systemd/logind.conf but nothing worked.
Whenever the lid is closed system hangs.

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1254131] Re: Lubuntu 13.10 lid close freeze

2014-04-20 Thread kalehrl
If I suspend the laptop using the suspend menu entry or CRTL+ESC button first,
wake it up properly and after that close the lid, the hang doesn't happen. That
could explain why I thought I had found a workaround before. I must have
suspended the laptop using keyboard shortcuts and then the lid close worked
fine which led me to believe that I had found the solution to the problem. I
have tried many times the procedure before and I'm confident the behaviour is
persistent.
Suspend the laptop using suspend menu or keyboard shortcut first - lid close NO
freeze no matter how many times afterwards I suspend it and wake it up.
I reboot the laptop and close the lid - freeze occurs.
During these actions Xfce power manager is disabled.

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1254131] Re: [Dell Latitude D505] Lubuntu suspend via lid close causes freeze

2014-04-20 Thread kalehrl
OK, I tested the 3.15.0-031500rc1-generic_3.15.0-031500rc1.201 kernel and I get
the same behaviour.
A11 bios is the latest one for my laptop.

2014-04-20 Thread kalehrl
I can't remember really.
I think I ran Lubuntu 11.10 without this problem and then I made a pause and
the next version I installed was 13.10.

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1254889] Re: Dell latitude d505 hibernate/resume failure

2013-11-30 Thread kalehrl
I did sudo dpkg --purge zram-config.
Rebooted and verified that there is no zram used (cat/proc/swaps just shows
/mnt/swap of 1gb).
Tried to hibernate but it is the same as before, the system just logs me out.

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1254889] Re: Dell latitude d505 hibernate/resume failure

2013-11-30 Thread kalehrl
I'm not sure really.
I used Lubuntu 11.xx and then I switched to Windows XP.
A couple of days ago I installed Lubuntu 13.10 and noticed this hibernate
problem and a more serious one which I reported here:

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1254889] Re: Dell latitude d505 hibernate/resume failure

2013-11-30 Thread kalehrl
Thank you for your help but I don't think I will bother with installing 12.04.
Only in the case I can't get the other bug sorted, I may install 12.04 and see
if these bugs exist on precise as well.

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1254889] Re: Dell latitude d505 hibernate/resume failure

2013-11-29 Thread kalehrl
I've tested the
linux-image-3.13.0-031300rc1-generic_3.13.0-031300rc1.201311221535_i386 and I
get the same behavior.
Could it be because I have no swap and only 512MB of RAM?

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1246664] Re: Buffer I/O error on device zram0, logical block 515067

2013-11-03 Thread kalehrl
I dist-upgraded mu ubuntu 12.04 LTS this morning and after reboot I got:
[ 14.666280] zram: module is from the staging directory, the quality is
unknown, you have been warned.
[ 14.667040] zram: Creating 1 devices ...

[ 14.830621] Buffer I/O error on device zram0, logical block 62411
[ 14.878597] Adding 249644k swap on /dev/zram0. Priority:5 extents:1
across:249644k SS
I will see if this is just cosmetics or if it will cause problems.

Title:
Buffer I/O error on device zram0, logical block 515067

Status in “linux” package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
This is a duplicate of #1217189, but for some reason neither @oibaf
nor me can reopen it. It is in fix released state, but the problem
is at most partially solved. It seems that the bug no longer causes
lockups (described in another bug: #1215513), but is still present (as
I get error messages on boot screen and after $ dmesg | grep zram).

If someone has enough privileges to reopen 1217189 for linux
(ubuntu) (I don't know about raring, but no one complains, so it is
probably ok), and remove this bug (maybe merging this message to the
comments in 1217189), I would be really grateful.

  Ubuntu 12.04.3 LTS
Kernel Linux 3.2.0-56-generic-pae (the problem was first observed in 53 and
since 54 there are no lockups).
