Hi guys,

Please bear with me but I'm not very technical with Ubuntu stuff. I've
been looking for a solution for over a day, tried solutions I've found
here and there, but I can't figure it out.

As for kernel versions; I honestly don't understand what a kernel is,
nor how to boot an older one.

@jsalisbury
Ubuntu's software updater did install some updates, and I figure the issue is
related to an updated driver that doesn't work.
The link you provided me contains many download links, I'm not sure which file
to download from here?

Title:
  Mousepad/trackpad not working

Status in linux package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete

Bug description:
  Hi,

I booted my pc this morning and found that the trackpad is no longer
responding. Moving it or clicking, there is no response.

I did nothing special yesterday nor manually installed anything, the
only thing that was installed was some new Ubuntu updates through the
  software updater.

My laptop is an Asus ROG GL553VD with Ubuntu 16.04.2 LTS.

Looking in the list of hardware to see if the trackpad is recognized,
I found 'ITE Tech. Inc. ITE Device(8910)' which seems to be the name
  for my trackpad.

I tried 'sudo apt-get install xserver-xorg-input-synaptics' but it
said it was already up-to-date (version 1.8.2-1ubuntu3)

I can't include the package name in this report as 'apt-cache policy
pkgname' doesn't work ("N: Unable to locate package pkgname")
