[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1845046] Re: Bluetooth headphones/speaker default to low quality headset mode and fails to switch to A2DP when selected

2019-12-27 Thread s.illes79
Same problem with Sony WH-1000XM2

My workaround is

1. Turn on headphone, wait to connect with low quality sink
2. Turn off bluetooth, wait couple of seconds and turn on
3. Reconnect headphones.

Works all the time.

Ubuntu: 18.04
Sony WH-1000XM2

Bug description:
  SRU Justification

Impact: Many users are reporting issues with bios corruption with
17.10. This seems to stem from enabling the intel-spi-* drivers in the
kernel, which don't appear to be ready for use on end-user machines.

  Fix: Disable this driver.

Test Case: Fix has been verified by our HWE team on affected hardware.

Regression Potential: Minimal, it's unlikely anyone is actually doing
  anything which requires this driver.

  ---

  Hi all,

Basically on Lenovo Y50-70 after installing Ubuntu 17.10, many users
  reported a corrupted BIOS.

It's not possible to save new settings in BIOS anymore and after
rebooting, the system starts with the old settings.

Moreover (and most important) USB booting is not possible anymore
since USB is not recognized. It's very serious, since our machines do
  not have a CDROM.

Lenovo forums at the moment are full of topics regading this issue.

  Thank you!!

   UPDATE (20/12/2017)

LENOVO machines affected so far (please add your affected model to
  this list):

Testing wireless speed with RT-87U 802.11ac router shows that the
speed is only 27.3 megabits per second which is very low for an
  802.11ac card:

  iperf -c rtr

Client connecting to rtr, TCP port 5001
TCP window size: 85.0 KByte (default)

For comparison, on the same network (from the same distance to the
router) I have the following result with an Intel's card (on a 4.8
  kernel, different laptop):

  UX32LN:~$ lspci | grep 7260
02:00.0 Network controller: Intel Corporation Wireless 7260 (rev bb)

  200 Mbps is much better.

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1680904] Re: zesty unable to handle kernel NULL pointer dereference

2017-07-27 Thread s.illes79
I've been experimenting with 4.12.3-041203-generic, not crashes but
sometimes the screen goes blank for 3 seconds, from syslog

Jul 27 14:50:45 XPS13 org.gnome.Shell.desktop[1986]:
intel_do_flush_locked failed: Cannot allocate memory

it recovers nicely, no apps gets killed and nothing gets restarted (
other than gnome desktop ??? )

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1680904] Re: zesty unable to handle kernel NULL pointer dereference

2017-07-26 Thread s.illes79
this is ridicules, this bug was reported long time ago (2017-04-07), the
patch was created long time ago and here we go.

I might need to abandon the Ubuntu ship and install openSuse or
something else where bugs get fixed.

Bug description:
Upgraded to zesty about a week ago. Ran into this on latest kernel.
(during high load, nothing in particular seems to cause it to happen).

Did not happen with previous (4.10.0.14.16) kernel. Only after update
to 4.10.0.15.17, has happened about 3 times since then (or other
crashes), this is the one I could capture.

kern.log entries below. Let me know if you need anything else from me.

  Thanks!

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1680904] Re: zesty unable to handle kernel NULL pointer dereference

2017-05-24 Thread s.illes79
With Linux XPS13 4.8.0-46-generic:

09:24:36 up 25 days, 10:33, 10 users, load average: 3.49, 2.40, 1.91

4.8.X is super stable, this is on a work laptop with high load.

Title:
zesty unable to handle kernel NULL pointer dereference

Status in linux package in Ubuntu:
  In Progress
Status in linux source package in Zesty:
  In Progress

Bug description:
Upgraded to zesty about a week ago. Ran into this on latest kernel.
(during high load, nothing in particular seems to cause it to happen).

Did not happen with previous (4.10.0.14.16) kernel. Only after update
to 4.10.0.15.17, has happened about 3 times since then (or other
crashes), this is the one I could capture.

kern.log entries below. Let me know if you need anything else from me.

  Thanks!

I dont' have this issue showing in dmesg when using 3.19 kernel, only
with later kernels. Is it related to selecting encrypted home on
  install or something?

I don't notice any issues with performance because of it or have any
other error messages. I am using default ubuntu xenial 16.04 with

I dont' have this issue showing in dmesg when using 3.19 kernel, only
with later kernels. Is it related to selecting encrypted home on
  install or something?

I don't notice any issues with performance because of it or have any
other error messages. I am using default ubuntu xenial 16.04 with
  unity.

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1677673] Re: System soft-freezes, BUG: unable to handle kernel NULL pointer dereference at 0000000000000018 in journalctl at gen8_ppgtt_alloc_page_directories.isra.38+0x115/0x25

2017-04-24 Thread s.illes79
Generally I'm having stability issue since
- upgraded to 17.04 - xorg freezes with kernel Ooops
- installed virtualbox - resume fails

I removed virtualbox and suspend seems to be ok
The bug opener also has vbox modules loaded, which makes me wonder if this all
coz by virtualbox?

anyone else with this problem also have virtualbox installed?
