[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1882968] Re: ath10k_pci failed to wake target for write32

2022-12-28 Thread thedoctar
Why not try a 19.10 livecd?

Or you could try get the old firmware from the linux firmware git and
use a 4.x kernel and see if the problem disappears.

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1882968] Re: ath10k_pci failed to wake target for write32

2022-12-24 Thread thedoctar
If there is an issue with power management, the only other thing I can
think of is to disable power management in PCIe.

If you pass the kernel parameters pcie_aspm=off and pcie_port_pm=off I
think this would achieve this.

In your output of `sudo lshw -C Network`, there is “capabilities: pm”,
which indicates that power management for the PCIe connection exists.

Otherwise I have no idea!

I also have this message. I use a Dell XPS 9360 with Lubuntu 22.04. Here
is my dmesg (note that I don't get any acpi warnings afterwards):

  Confirmed

Bug description:
I run the kernel 5.4.0-42-generic on a fully up-to-date Ubuntu "focal" on

(marked yellow):

  [0.659825] wmi_bus wmi_bus-PNP0C14:00: WQBC data block query
  control method not found

Now, since this is a warning, I get, ergo, warned. What is it that I
get warned about? Is it just a printf or is some action required? As
every computer, the laptop suffers from various problems from time to
time (e.g., boot or wakeup silently hangs up while the manufacturer
splash screen is displayed), so, I don't know whether this message
could be related to any of such problems.

Here is the context of this warning in dmesg:

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1837326] Re: platform eisa.0: EISA: Cannot allocate resource for mainboard

2022-10-27 Thread thedoctar
The CONFIG_EISA and related flags only affect compilation. They will not
affect an already compiled kernel. @Bram: how did you apply the kernel
parameters? I tried using the bootconfig tool, compiling it from the
ubuntu-kernel source, but they do not seem to loaded when I try cat
/proc/bootconfig.

Hi Alexandre,

Try it! But download the linux-firmware.deb package in case it doesn't
work, Then you can just re-install the older firmware.

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1882968] Re: ath10k_pci failed to wake target for write32

2020-08-15 Thread thedoctar
Hi Alexandre,

Yes I manually installed the latest firmware from the link above.

Just extract the contents to /lib/firmware and override.

I also installed the latest kernel. (currently 5.8:
https://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/)

Albert

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1853005] Re: Wifi drops out randomly and at large bandwidth usage

2019-12-14 Thread thedoctar
The issue came back, but I reported another bug here:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux-firmware/+bug/1856372

** Changed in: linux (Ubuntu)
   Status: Fix Released => Confirmed

Title:
Wifi drops out randomly and at large bandwidth usage

Status in linux package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
  System: Linux Dell-XPS-13-9360 4.15.0-70-generic #79-Ubuntu SMP Tue
  Nov 12 10:36:11 UTC 2019 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux

Problem: Wifi drops out randomly and with large bandwidth usage. For
example, I had trouble downloading a folder from a ssh server at uni.
During the download, the wifi stopped. In the log of journalctl
--follow, I found many records of the kernel complaining about an
unknown pci event, which I think is related to the wifi dropping out.
The output of journalctl --follow during the wifi drop outs is
attached as the file log.txt. I deleted all entries from Nautilus and
  plank.desktop.

Additional notes: simply turning the wifi on and off again re-
establishes the connection, but obviously irritating if I need to
download lots of files from a ssh server. Furthermore, my iPad has
internet connection after my Linux laptop wifi drops out, so the
  problem is not the router/ISP.

Limiting the download speed allowed me to download from the ssh
  server. scp -r -l 100 user@address:~/Documents/Textbooks ./

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1856372] Re: Wifi drops, particularly under load

2019-12-14 Thread thedoctar
** Changed in: linux-firmware (Ubuntu)
   Status: Invalid => New

** Description changed:

- EDIT: sorry i realise my firmware was downgraded when ubuntu "updated" its
linux-firmware package so maybe this bug is invalid.
- --
- On Ubuntu 18.04.3 LTS with Qualcomm Atheros QCA6174 wireless card, internet
drops out, particularly when downloading at speeds ~1MB/s say via P2P torrent.
The wifi connection (at least reported by wicd) remains active, but I cannot
ping the router or access the internet. No error message is logged in
journalctl after the internet drops. Details on my card, firmware and dmesg
given below I'm not the only one with this issue:

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1856372] Re: Wifi drops, particularly under load

2019-12-13 Thread thedoctar
** Description changed:

+ EDIT: sorry i realise my firmware was downgraded when ubuntu "updated" its
linux-firmware package so maybe this bug is invalid.
+ --
On Ubuntu 18.04.3 LTS with Qualcomm Atheros QCA6174 wireless card, internet
drops out, particularly when downloading at speeds ~1MB/s say via P2P torrent.
The wifi connection (at least reported by wicd) remains active, but I cannot
ping the router or access the internet. No error message is logged in
journalctl after the internet drops. Details on my card, firmware and dmesg
given below I'm not the only one with this issue:

It seems when I update *all* firmware, not just for my wifi card, the
issue seems to be fixed. Thanks!

Title:
Wifi drops out randomly and at large bandwidth usage

Status in linux package in Ubuntu:
  Fix Released

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1853005] Re: Wifi drops out randomly and at large bandwidth usage

2019-11-25 Thread thedoctar
I updated the firmware via the instructions here:
https://wireless.wiki.kernel.org/en/users/drivers/ath10k/firmware

It didn't help. I looked at journalctl --follow and dmesg before and
after the connections drops when downloading the large file, and no
error messages appear.

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1853005] Re: Wifi drops out randomly and at large bandwidth usage

2019-11-25 Thread thedoctar
** Summary changed:

- Wifi drops out at large bandwidth usage
+ Wifi drops out randomly and at large bandwidth usage

** Description changed:

System: Linux Dell-XPS-13-9360 4.15.0-70-generic #79-Ubuntu SMP Tue Nov
  12 10:36:11 UTC 2019 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux

- Problem: Wifi drops out with large bandwidth usage. For example, I had
- trouble downloading a folder from a ssh server at uni. During the
- download, the wifi stopped. In the log of journalctl --follow, I found
- many records of the kernel complaining about an unknown pci event, which
- I think is related to the wifi dropping out. The output of journalctl
- --follow during the wifi drop outs is attached as the file log.txt. I
- deleted all entries from Nautilus and plank.desktop.

Additional notes: simply turning the wifi on and off again re-
establishes the connection, but obviously irritating if I need to
download lots of files from a ssh server. Furthermore, my iPad has
internet connection after my Linux laptop wifi drops out, so the problem
  is not the router/ISP.

Limiting the download speed allowed me to download from the ssh server.

2019-11-22 Thread thedoctar
I don't know how to update the firmware, so I followed these
instructions using fwupdmgr (https://itsfoss.com/update-firmware-
ubuntu/).

The issue still occurs. dmesg attached.

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1853005] Re: Wifi randomly drops out

2019-11-21 Thread thedoctar
No. I tried it on a 4.13 kernel and the problem persists. Specifically,

1. I ping my router, everything is fine.
2. I download a large file from an ssh server at my uni. The speed is very
fast, 7.5 MB/s
3. After a few seconds, the internet drops out without any warning and I can no
longer ping my router. I didn't check journalctl unfortunately.

Problem: Wifi randomly drops out. For example, I had trouble
downloading a folder from a ssh server at uni. During the download,
the wifi stopped. In the log of journalctl --follow, I found many
records of the kernel complaining about an unknown pci event, which I

deleted all entries from Nautilus and plank.desktop.

Additional notes: simply turning the wifi on and off again re-

  problem is not the router/ISP.

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1853005] Re: Wifi randomly drops out

2019-11-18 Thread thedoctar
** Description changed:

System: Linux Dell-XPS-13-9360 4.15.0-70-generic #79-Ubuntu SMP Tue Nov
  12 10:36:11 UTC 2019 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux

Problem: Wifi randomly drops out. For example, I had trouble downloading
a folder from a ssh server at uni. During the download, the wifi
stopped. In the log of journalctl --follow, I found many records of the
kernel complaining about an unknown pci event, which I think is related
to the wifi dropping out. The output of journalctl --follow during the
wifi drop outs is attached as the file log.txt. I deleted all entries
  from Nautilus and plank.desktop.

Additional notes: simply turning the wifi on and off again re-
establishes the connection, but obviously irritating if I need to
download lots of files from a ssh server. Furthermore, my iPad has
internet connection after my Linux laptop wifi drops out, so the problem
  is not the router/ISP.

+ Update: limiting the download speed allowed me to download from the ssh
+ server. scp -r -l 100 az...@ssh.itp.kit.edu:~/Documents/Textbooks ./

  New

Bug description:

Problem: Wifi randomly drops out. For example, I had trouble
downloading a folder from a ssh server at uni. During the download,
the wifi stopped. In the log of journalctl --follow, I found many
records of the kernel complaining about an unknown pci event, which I
think is related to the wifi dropping out. The output of journalctl
--follow during the wifi drop outs is attached as the file log.txt. I
deleted all entries from Nautilus and plank.desktop.

Additional notes: simply turning the wifi on and off again re-
establishes the connection, but obviously irritating if I need to
download lots of files from a ssh server. Furthermore, my iPad has
internet connection after my Linux laptop wifi drops out, so the
  problem is not the router/ISP.
