I can confirm that I'm also experieancing this bug. 12.04, clean
install 16gb ram, 32 swap. It can be replicated in python with:
import numpy as np
l=[]
for i in range(1):
l.append(np.array(np.ones(1000), dtype=np.float64))
this can be done in console mode or GUI, the arrays are

entire system freezes.

I am quite sure that this problem is related to my RAID configuration.
