DSG, as per http://www.gigabyte.us/products/product-
page.aspx?pid=4481#bios an update is available for your BIOS (F7). If
you update to this, does it change anything?
If not, could you please both specify what happened, and provide the output of
the following terminal command:
sudo dmidecode -s
$ dmidecode -s bios-version
F7
$ dmidecode -s bios-release-date
08/03/2013

DSG/mrDoctorWho, the next step is to commit bisect from kernel version
3.2 to 3.9.11, in order to identify the offending commit. Could you
please do this following https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Kernel/KernelBisection
?

DSG, could you please dd a location that has a known static file size in time
(ex. external HDD or flash) via:
dd if=/dev/zero of=/dev/XYZ bs=1M
where XYZ is replaced with the drive location, and then post the results
from the two different kernels (3.2 and higher one)?

Would it be possible for you to test the latest upstream kernel? Refer
to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Please test the latest
v3.11 kernel[0].
If this bug is fixed in the mainline kernel, please add the following
