Not sure if this is worth anything but I have been using lubuntu 16.04 for a while now and had occasional problems with suspend. I thought I'd give some of the other desktops a try and ended up going through a world of pain (and many lost hours...). For starters pm-hibernate showed the behaviour

I have the same problem, using the 16.04 Ubuntu release build, with latest updates. Kernel is 4.4.0-21-generic AMD64. Dell XPS13 9350, with 1.0.4 firmware, Intel i5-6200U, 4GB RAM, 6GB Swap. Suspend/Resume works fine. The hibernate seems to stop towards the end of the process, just before it

Did this issue start happening after an update/upgrade? Was there a prior kernel version where you were not having this particular problem? Would it be possible for you to test the latest upstream kernel? Refer to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Please test the latest v4.5
