Not sure if this is worth anything but I have been using lubuntu 16.04
for a while now and had occasional problems with suspend. I thought I'd
give some of the other desktops a try and ended up going through a world
of pain (and many lost hours...). For starters pm-hibernate showed the
behaviour
I can confirm it works fine on developer edition - this has the intel
wireless chip.

[Dell Inc. XPS 13 9350]
I can confirm the same behavior on an XPS 9550 with Ubuntu 16.04 and
kernel 4.4.0-31-generic. Unloading the brcmfmac driver does indeed allow
the system to hibernate successfuly. If it is still loaded the system
goes to a black screen and doe not turn off. The 9550 has the BCM43602
chip.

It looks like this can be fixed by unloading the brcmfmac module (rmmod
brcmfmac) before hibernating and reloading it (modprobe brcmfmac) after
hibernating.

I have the same problem, using the 16.04 Ubuntu release build, with
latest updates. Kernel is 4.4.0-21-generic AMD64. Dell XPS13 9350, with
1.0.4 firmware, Intel i5-6200U, 4GB RAM, 6GB Swap.
Suspend/Resume works fine. The hibernate seems to stop towards the end
of the process, just before it
Did this issue start happening after an update/upgrade? Was there a
prior kernel version where you were not having this particular problem?
Would it be possible for you to test the latest upstream kernel? Refer
to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Please test the latest
