There is the same problem with my Asus ZenBook UX534FAC.
Is there any plan to fix it within the nearest kernel updates?

I did the following:
// dir = 0, data = 1
hda-verb /dev/snd/hwC0D0 0x01 SET_GPIO_MASK 0x08
hda-verb /dev/snd/hwC0D0 0x01 SET_GPIO_DIR 0x00
hda-verb /dev/snd/hwC0D0 0x01 SET_GPIO_DATA 0x08
// dir = 0, data = 0
hda-verb /dev/snd/hwC0D0 0x01
According to the quirk table, ASUS laptops may need to pull up GPIO to enable
speaker AMP.
Please follow the instruction [1] and try different GPIO values:

I have a similar problem, with ASUS UX430U. The internal speakers and
output to HDMI works fine, but headphones do not. If I connect
headphones, I hear a soft blob-blob-blob-blob... from them. Works fine
with Windows 10.

UTC
Same problem here. Windows everything is ok, in liunx (ubuntu) no audio
output through internal speakers.

If you go the same path, just make sure that it is compatible with Linux
and check your earphones/microphone plugs to see if you need one with
one or two connectors or buy adapters as needed.

I've installed the 19.10 without the nvidia drivers.

will try again with 4.20 next weekend
