Hi, I improved the /etc/udev/rules.d/tosh-backlight.sh script as
presented in

this script avoids the no-backlight at all issue and sets the brightness
using a quadratic function (it works much better in my Z830 where the
luca, in order to track your hardware, could you please file a new report via a
terminal:

Hi,
I have exactly the same problem on my Toshiba Satellite R830.
This is with a fully up-to-date Opensuse 12.3.
The solution in comment 5 restores the brightness but the function keys
still don't work (well they do show the on-screen brightness display
changing but with no effect on the actual
Actually, I just found the bug report at

and comment #19 worked for me (although now the minimum brightness is
absolute darkness but at least the FN-keys work)
